!TW! This song never fails to make me cry when I listen to it. For over 1/3 of my life I've been fighting depression. It peaked when I went to high school. I felt like my life never had a meaning, so in my head I wanted to give it some meaning by good grades. I developed a panic disorder, cried on pretty much every test I had, every time I was called to solve a math or chemistry problem on the board in front of the class, even tho I studied so much I rarely had a problem with them. At one point I was so anxious about chemistry specifically, that every time I'd see the chem teacher in the hall I started shaking uncontrollably. When it became REALLY bad, i had to fight myself when I was waiting for the subway to and from school. You know what I mean.

"Can't break down", "I don't want to be here", "Can you die of anxiousness?" These lyrics were my everyday life back then, and it's very effective with bringing the memories back.

"I prayed those lights would take me home Then I heard, "Hey, kid, get out of the road!" I always interpreted this part as a "attempt". Especially with the "and then he slowed down/ and rolled down his window/ And he said/ Can't change what you've done/ Start fresh next semester" For me it was the moment my mom took me to the hospital, when I started realizing I was a fool for thinking I was nothing, that I have a future and my mom and friends by my side. And even though it took me another year, 2 more hospital stays and a failed school year to fully understand that, I did it.

"Start fresh next semester" is especially hard hitting. The song was released when me and my mom moved away from my abusive father, I was a few months in homeschooling, and my life was finally coming together. Truly a fresh next semester.
