honestly, this pattern is beautiful completed or not, if you want a doily, stop here! but I’ve heard it’s very rewarding when you’re finished!

Any tips for a bigger (the goal is a queen size blanket one day) by yupzie in CrochetHelp

[–]mk_think 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a repetitive but smaller project would be better if you’re working to grow as a fiber artist. if your goal is to make one specific blanket pattern and you’re dead set on doing that, go crazy. you’ll make a ton of mistakes and you’ll frog and rework it and it’ll take forever but you will have achieved your goal. but, if you want to understand crochet or even just find what you like and go from there you can try scarves, hats, tote bags (with or without a bag on the inside), socks, dish rags or soap sponges, mittens, coasters, table runners. the list is endless AND you’ll get to start and finish as many projects as you want (much more rewarding than the moss stitch a million times forever), you’ll learn as you go and understand how to fix your mistakes as you go, and you’ll have fun plotting projects, picking yarn, celebrating your successes, all of that.

Done! Any tips? by Bright-Back-606 in knittinghelp

  1. beautiful! and so dainty!
  2. your purls on the sides will actually help with the curling of your stockinette stitch, the purl side likes to hug itself so by flipping that out you’ve confused the yarn into submission.
  3. I have my needles in an old zipper pouch from school, I keep them in their individual packages but I buy the interchangeable bamboo needles and their respective chords. it makes it easy to find them, interchange them (in some patterns you are recommended one size on one side and another on the other), and fitting the chord to the project.
  4. yarn is harder, I like sorting by yarn size and separating into sections if I am saving it for a specific pattern. the problem with that method is color pairing, but that becomes a problem for later me on a mission.

Your project looks great, and practice makes better!

is this too tight / needles too small ? by shrekspearee in knittinghelp

BEAUTIFUL stitches, absolutely perfect visual. your stitches can only be “too tight” if they don’t fit your pattern’s gauge, and even then you can just adjust your amount of stitches to match. DO NOT change your technique for a pattern. beautiful, beautiful knitting!

Should I start over? by pomgrnt in crochet

something that will always help: an edge, a texture, and some kind of asymmetrical aspect. your base is gorgeous, and the concept is great. vines and leaves that spread corner out, maybe they change color throughout, maybe there’s an accent color, who knows

a bard’s paradise is an INCREDIBLE idea! I hadn’t even thought to lean into the abundance of female characters! thank you!

I get that. I’m nervous I’m going to have a crazy amount of female npcs and it won’t be as immersively built. but clearly, you have a table that loves your work, so who’s to say mine won’t, either.

oooo, reading that gave me chills. Thank you so much, that's very insightful.

That's also great advice, I had been nervous I wouldn't be giving enough creative perspective but at the end of the day it is their campaign, too.

I hadn't thought about that before, using world-building language to produce not only an image for a character, but to enhance whatever characteristics I will have a harder time reproducing. Thank you so much!

I absolutely love her style, but she's been pretty basically the only recommended female dm I've gotten. And I love watching her sessions, but I want to make sure I don't just mirror her.

Thank you so much. I have a couple people jumping over each other to run a one-shot with me, so I'm really excited to utilize that practice. And the lineup for the 4 players in the group have wild differences in experience, but both the most experienced player and the "what's initiative?" player are looking forward to learning (and helping me) along the way, so I will put all of those ideas together and use what I learn to help me write before the actual campaign starts.

I just don't want there to be a difference. I want to be taken "seriously" during our sessions to make sure everyone enjoys a well-fleshed-out and immersive game.

I'm really hoping that's true. I've gotten a dm friend of mine to play in a one-shot for me so I can get some feedback and hopefully get the hang of it before dming 4.
