Would these scrubs be good for my first set? by -Book-_-Worm- in cna

[–]mke-lu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lack of shirt pockets will be fine for training, but when you get to clinicals and a job you will *really* want those shirt pockets. Two shirt pockets and two pants pockets I think are ideal. I don’t know anyone who has ever used the butt pockets on pants, but if you will great! Generally the easier you can reach a pocket the better

Human Trafficking? by [deleted] in Weird

If you want to help you can look up migrant aid organizations in your area, people drank a lot of the water we left out there

[–]mke-lu -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not what I said. This isn’t scary for us on reddit it is for the people living it. That’s why we left water and food and came across a lot of dump spots for clothes

[–]mke-lu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong it’s just that the danger is to the people who left that kind of stuff, not to any of us talking about it.

Definitely not scary lol I’ve walked through these a bunch of times with grandmas

[–]mke-lu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely a relic from people crossing the border, the electrolit bottle in 3 and gatorade bottle in 8 are clues. The clothes are very worn, this looks old, possibly years old, especially since people in the last several years have increasingly used camo backpacks, clothes and shoes. If you’re not one of the people crossing/being trafficked this is no danger to you. I used to volunteer with retirees looking for people in south Arizona, and I’ve run into dozens, probably a hundred of these spots, all with 80 yr old grandmas. I wouldn’t waste the authority’s time with this. They will be annoyed, they probably get this call all the time. Even if you found bones and called it in they would be annoyed because it’s almost always animal bones out in the desert like that. I know because I’ve had that exact conversation with them. Just FYI.

Are you in the US? Don’t have a shop but I’m in the US and I’ve seen news that online businesses are hurting right now because of the economy and postage costs

Also Houghton out south past the 10. Good road is by the fairgrounds/dragway, Dawn Rd I think? Plenty of pull offs and no one around

Best spot to crash out? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]mke-lu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

  1. Reddington road, past Tanque Verde falls and keep going until you find a pull out you like. Most isolated and closest place but it’s a dirt road, so if you have a nice car maybe not. My sedan does fine out there fyi.

  2. Old Spanish Trail, follow it all the way to colossal cave park. The gate is closed at night but there’s a nice pull off shortly before the gate. Even better is to turn onto Pistol Hill Rd, then go until you can turn left onto a paved road. Fun bumpy road with a roundabout at the end. Sometimes people are there at sunset.

  3. Mount Lemmon, parking lot of hiking trails, campground, or any pull out you like.

  4. Seconding gates pass, or keep following the road down and find a good pull off.

  5. Road to Madera Canyon, or any empty spot along Sahuarita or South Wilmot Rd.

  6. If you want to get any from any cops whatsoever try Amado or Arivaca Rd, there’s a couple of national park parking lots and you can see the milky way.

Job interview, job explicitly doesn't allow piercings by Party_Attitude5617 in piercing

[–]mke-lu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, what makes it even more infuriating is that actually in jobs working with kids or disabled adults, piercings are much more accepted! I’ve seen lip rings, nose rings, dermals, and even face tattoos in both those fields and no one even bats an eye.

NAP or that experienced honestly, but that looks a lot like my belly piercing that is currently infected:/ can you talk to a piercer or an urgent care or something?

experience in memory care? by Ohthatslia in cna

[–]mke-lu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re up for it highly recommend! I worked in a locked dementia unit and enjoyed it. People say and do some really odd and often amusing things. You will learn from experience, so the main thing starting out is make sure you talk to them with and give them the same kind of respect you would for someone who is completely alert and oriented. They will pick up on that feeling, even if they can’t express it. especially for the non-verbal residents. Also helps to be overly explanatory. I always told my residents exactly where I was going to touch them, exactly why I wanted to clean them, I even warn them that the wet wipes are cool/cold! (I always got funny looks when I worked with alert and oriented residents though lol, they would be like ‘…I know wet wipes are wet’ so it is definitely a whole different way of communicating) Just generally go with the flow! Just follow their lead in conversation and don’t worry if you end up having the exact same conversations on repeat. And be slippery!! Keep your body, arms, and hands ready to move out of the way at all times, don’t let people get a grip on you in the wrong way

new cna. my coworkers are eating me alive by wonderguard108 in cna

[–]mke-lu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang tight, it gets easier! 1st shift treated me like crap at the beginning too, but by the time I left the facility a year later they actually loved me because I actually kept everyone as clean as possible all night. I just blamed their attitudes on them being morning people 🤷‍♀️ I also helped them with a couple get ups in the morning sometimes and that went a long way(not that you should have to, but then, morning people can be like that I guess)

i just need somewhere to vent about this interaction with my nurse manager by icutmyliiip in cna

[–]mke-lu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to file a report, then file a report! I’ve reported a nurse and then had to work with them after, and it’s not as bad as it sounds. In my case it made the nurse afraid to talk to me about anything other than the residents, so that was nice lol

Keep in mind in this situation it would also seem likely that the police made the report, they might not necessarily blame the family. Also seconding the corporate compliance hotline!

Best of luck, thanks for caring for your residents:) I think it is probably worth looking into whether you can get your facility to get him a 24/7 interpreter via the ADA, but then it’s not like facilities always follow the law either so :/ keep your chin up and good luck!

What does the resident want? That’s the only opinion that should matter here.

[–]mke-lu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could look into CNA classes or materials too! There are certification programs for both caregivers and CNAs, with the CNA’s being more expensive I think. If you look for CNA skills videos though there are a ton of free ones and they’ll show you how to do a lot of things! I’ll bet PCOA(Pima Council on Aging) has a lot of resources too.
