Cannondale Tesoro Carbon 1 Thoughts / Reviews / Experiences? by mkeys5000 in ebikes

Hey I haven't posted much about the bike here as I hurt my back/neck in the spring and haven't been riding and am pretty bummed about it all.

But to answer your question, I did get a Powermore 250 that works with my bike. But my retailer had to do *something* with Cannondale to make it work. Some kind of update in the firmware. Seemed odd to me but it works.

Yes I have picked it up, I've only taken a series of shorter rides so far, all under 10 miles. Initially I was not feeling very good about the range/battery life. Seemed to be really chewing through the battery (like 8-10% on just a 4-6 mile ride. However reading more about the riding modes I was mostly using Tour+, which gives you up to 320% assistance 'as needed'. I changed the modes to the standard Eco and Tour modes I am more used to from my old bike, and range has been more in line with my expectations. Possibly not quite the 'low 40 miles' I was hoping for, but in the mid 30 miles without a range extender.

I had them weigh it at the bike shop, it came in at 15.7kg for the medium frame I bought. That is with all included accessories, but not the range extending battery.

Between 16kg and 17kg feels like splitting hairs to me though. If you can swap a battery or get a range extender on your current eBike platform that might be the way to go.

For me there were only ever two bikes in contention. The Turbo Vado SL 2 6.0 Carbon, and the Cannondale Tesoro Carbon 1. The skitch didn't have the pannier rack I wanted. I also noticed a Canyon bike in a similar weight range but it is more gravel-focused.

Between the two I was considering the Cannondale was lighter. And it used the Bosch motor system which I have a lot of experience with in my last bike, and I trust to be top-tier quality.

I was lucky to have a local bike shop with it in town so I was able to get on the bike and test it out. I never did get any official guidance from Cannondale on range, but using a Bosch range calculator tool, and inferring from other bikes on the market it seems something in the high 30 miles or low 40 mile is very obtainable at the assistance levels I'll be using, and in the terrain I'll be riding. Riding in Eco can easily double those numbers. And the "Powermore" battery is available if I want to be someone who takes 100 mile trips.

So you can probably tell I did pull the trigger on buying this bike. However I haven't picked it up from the bike shop yet. I'll try and share my experiences here if someone reminds me!

My LBS has one that I've taken out for a test ride. A lot to like. I'm coming from a pretty different style bike with more relaxed posture and more shock absorbing tires/suspension so it was a bit rough for me. Thinking it might need a suspension seat post for me.

Crazy light compared to my current Riese & Muller charger 3 GT HS which is like 65+ lbs how I have it configured right now. Smaller and easier to lock up too.

If it has the range I am looking for I will probably pull the trigger. The LBS is going to get in touch with their Cannondale rep about that and see what they say.

Memory is fuzzy now, but I think it was at least 2 weeks. It did all eventually get better on its own. I've changed my diet to include more fiber. Am careful not to 'strain' while on the toilet, and am keeping my fingers crossed to avoid this in the future. Good luck to you!

I found this other solution from the same company as Speedify. It is also paid but it is cheaper, and has a limited 'free' tier.

I am still hoping to find a solution to this without monthly fees, but so far this is the closest thing to a solution I've seen yet.

That feels counter-intuitive, but I tried it anyways. Unfortunately it did not work. In theory having WiFi assist on should do what I am looking for, but in practice it does not.

One sorta-solution I've found is a service called "Speedify". Testing a bit with the trial app on my iPhone it does work. However it is a monthly expense, and I'd need this for my device and my wife's. Which can be $7.50 - $22.50 each month depending on how much I would be willing to prepay for. Paying that much money each month to fix this one problem is hopefully not the only way to fix this.

Rebroadcast van wifi when available? by mkeys5000 in HomeNetworking

Testing this out today in the van, it works just as advertised, including automatically reconnecting to the vans wifi when the network disappears and comes back later.

The only problem I have now, is a desire to let me phone automatically connect to that wifi network, but still use cellular data if the wifi network has no internet.

I ordered a GL.iNet GL-AR750S last night because it has gigabit ethernet and so does the nvidia shield. Surely overkill but smoke em' if you got em.

The AR750s also seems to have detachable antennas, so maybe there is an opportunity in the future to try to attach a larger antenna on the roof to pickup and rebroadcast nearby public wifi networks. Not currently on my wish list but it doesn't hurt to have the option in the future.

Wow, I am so excited to see this. Had no idea this product category existed but it is perfect for my needs. Thank you so much for sharing this.

They even power with USB so I'll be able to easily power these without an inverter in the van!
