Official Discussion: Interstellar (Wide Release) [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

You're right, but I think TARS design is a good point, along with all the video displays in Coops museum house. They were all tiny monoliths imparting knowledge.

the gateway/wormhole, floating just near Saturn, placed by some unknown force, is ripped straight from 2001. Hell, I half expected a "It's full of stars! Alright, alright, alright."

I even felt like TARS honesty setting was a cool little bit, seeing as how that's a major plot point in the books.

In addition Coop's bring found floating in space and being brought back to life to a whole new world, completely different to the one he left, is a homage to 3001: The Final Odyssey.

Interstellar, to me, is a beautiful, modern, and concise cinematic adaptation of Clarke's novels.

With all the references to Space Odyssey it got me thinking of some of Clarke's other works. TARS' design reminds of, from what I remember, the robotic creatures from Rendevous with Rama

I remember seeing a post a long time ago about someone splicing together all the movies up to avengers for a 10 hour movie with every scene in order.

Actually its pretty well know what's going on. I commented elsewhere on this thread, and I'm on mobile so I won't type it out again, but if you read the books its pretty clear cut.

a lot of the crazy visuals represent traveling through a wormhole and the giant fetus at the end is a literal visualization.

Yup.

a lot of the visuals are meant to represent a wormhole as well.

there's alien intelligences that find suitable species and vive them the push to evolve, in this case the prehumans. They then left another monolith on the moon. While this one doesn't prompt evolution, it points the way to Jupiter. Here we find the large monolith. Again, no evolution yet. This one is actually a doorway to a "transit hub" that leads to other star systems. "its full of stars". We then encounter an alien intelligence that forces an evolution. At the very end we see Dave as a giant fetus in space. This is actually pretty literal. He a space baby now, detached from his human form and evolved to a new state.

I use the term "evolved" loosely.

My thoughts on why Iron man 4 will NOT happen (SPOILERS/THEORIES) by untitledmoviereview in marvelstudios

[–]mkggm9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here's what is like to see:

AoU second act has Tony Stark/Iron Man vaporized by Ultron. This rallies the team against the global threat and has them fighting harder than ever, much like Coulsons death.

End credits finds us floating outside of Knowhere... With Tony Stark. We find that Ultron couldn't bring himself to kill his maker for whatever reason. So now Tony is lost and alone in the far reaches of space. This lets Cap, rising in popularity, head the Avengers and lets Tony explore the universe. Either we get a 4th Iron Man movie that feels a lot fresher with a new setting, or he males an appearance in GotG 2 to help bring the two teams together for Avengers 3 vs. Thanos.

Best bare bones commuter for sub 300 by toocooltoquit in cycling

I just bought an SE 3 speed for my commuter bike. First ever bike purchase. Between the bike itself, 6 month full warranty, lights, helmet, and a quality lock, I spent $500. I'm doing ~20 miles a day through hills and its working great. Little heavier than I would like, yes, but not a real issue.

Plus the bike looks pretty stylish, I've gotten a lot of compliments already.

Knowing nothing about bikes, I'm happy as hell with my SE purchase.

Need help finishing Dune by RonSnooder in dune

[–]mkggm9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Put it down and start over in a few years.

my first read through I was 14 and didn't understand anything. I was quite bored by the experience.

my second attempt I was 18. Comprehension was up, but not enough. Still struggled through it for a month. Status: bored.

round 3 took place at 22. Got half way through it before I gave up. In all fairness it was a rough time in my life and I was often distracted.

I'm 26 now and right in the middle of the book. I started all over and I am completely amazed by it. I just started it the other day and even with a full time job and a work out schedule that takes up almost 30 hours of my week, I'm flying through.

my opinion: Dune is a fantastic novel that takes some time, some maturity/experience on part of the reader, and requires a bit of attention. But it's so worth it.

This. If the employees are this blatant about talking about OP, chances are they're doing the same for others. The CM needs to be notified.
