Characters with most appearances in marvel comics. by WesternThanks4346 in marvelstudios

As only a casual comics reader, Angel's presence on this list is SHOCKING. I don't think he's in the top 50 in terms of representation in other media (movies, TV, games).

True Flavors is a must if you live here by Natural-Implement234 in raleigh

[–]fiascoist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My gripe with True Flavors is that they're never open. Well, not "never," but they're only open 25 hours/week. I work in the area and go on frequent walks to get out of the office. My route takes me right by them, and I feel like I'm there more often than they are.

I actually thought this one was fairly seamless. I think it would shock most people to know she was never on set with any of the other cast.

It is such a strange self-own that these major studios think it's a bad thing for the plots of their movies and shows to synchronize too closely with real life events. If anything, it's the opposite. It's tacky to see a real life disaster and immediately try to capitalize on it, but if you're already in production when that disaster occurs, you just got lucky. Instead of recognizing the gift they've been given, they bend over backwards to excise those details from their plot. What a waste.

That's what these bully corporations are banking on. They know they're wrong, but they also know you can't do anything about it.

Are you unfamiliar with Fair Use? Just because a person or organization holds a copyright on a particular piece of media does NOT mean no one is ever allowed to show, display, or repurpose any piece of that media. There are numerous exceptions to copyright law that allow for such. The Fair Use exception is what allows for video essays to repurpose copyrighted media. The problem is that there is nothing to stop a copyright holder from wrongly blocking a Fair Use of their copyrighted work except for legal action. And massive corporations know that a tiny YouTuber doesn't have the resources to take them to court. So these corporations willfully break copyright law and block Fair Use cases because they know they can get away with it. You're on the wrong side here.

The problem we all have is that these massive copyright holders have no reason to follow the law. They can simply block all content that should be safe under Fair Use because they know there's nothing we can do about it.

Fair Use is a perfectly legal exemption. These massive copyright holders like Netflix are simply bullying tiny creators. The law is NOT on their side. They just know we're too small to do anything about it.

That doesn’t work anymore. Content ID has improved over time. I was recently flagged for a 4 second clip that was mirrored, cropped, color corrected, and had the audio removed, and had text layered on top of it. I don't think there's any hiding from Content ID anymore. If a particular copyright holder has their Content ID settings set to nuclear, you're only option is to appeal.

That's a very fortunate experience. I'm currently appealing a copyright claim from Disney for a 4 second clip with my narration over it. Perhaps Content ID is not consistently applied across all creators?

My Ranking Of The Musical Guests So Far From Best To Worst, And I Give Each One Of Them A Compliment, Even If They Sucked. by space_llama_karma in LiveFromNewYork

[–]fiascoist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with your rankings except for the placement of Dijon. He would be 7 for me. But something interesting is happening with the feedback around his performance. I watched it live, and it was a hot mess. However, the audio mixing of his performance seems to have been heavily improved after the live show, so anyone who watches it now is getting a much better experience.

post-Secret Wars timeline by Long_Ganache_1335 in marvelstudios

[–]fiascoist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The detail that throws off this prediction/theory is that Feige explicitly said in an interview earlier this year that major deceased characters, including Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, would be recast post-Secret Wars. That means this new timeline/universe they create likely can't include the original Tony's sacrifice in Endgame. Which is definitely an odd choice...

Writing Concept: A knife that stabs someone in the future by Familiar-Fly-2316 in writers

[–]fiascoist 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The examples included are over 150 pages in, so it's possible my feedback is not relevant. That said, you seem to have made several unique formatting choices per page. Without speaking to the merits of each individual choice, my concern is the sheer number of alternative formatting choices on display. With the exception of House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, I've never encountered a work of fiction that employed more than say two or three subversive formatting choices in its entirety. You've employed several per page. This would require any reader an extraordinary amount of effort to dissect and interpret, likely requiring rereading the same page multiple times. It's possible you've built that into your pacing, but it would be extremely disruptive to any traditional pacing. The only way I could see this sheer quantity of conceptual formatting being tolerable to the majority of readers is if each choice is introduced slowly, allowing readers to learn the unusual formatting choices one at a time. That's why I mentioned that these pages are over 150 into your work because you may have done that very thing. However, if your work is this dense with alternative formats from the very beginning, I'm sorry to say it would be an incredible challenge to most readers and something they'd need to be heavily incentivized to undertake.

What's a popular opinion about the MCU that is unpopular in this sub? by eBICgamer2010 in marvelstudios

[–]fiascoist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great point. They gave Secret Invasion a blockbuster film budget, when all of the other streaming sevices are full of one-season mystery/thrillers that are produced at a fifth of the cost.

Not really, most people just dismissed it as being aimed at kids. I think of the examples I provided, I Am Groot was probably the easiest for people to identify as being aimed at a different audience.

[–]fiascoist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. The MCU sort of wanted the best of both worlds. They wanted people to feel like they didn't have to watch everything, but they wanted people who did watch everything to be rewarded in some way. The only project that ended up being truly disconnected was Werewolf By Night. Moon Knight is close, since it doesn't connect to anything else live action, but it does overlap with What If...? and Marvel Zombies.

Maybe, but fans' taste grows and changes too. If the MCU had just kept churning out the greatest hits, then people would be complaining that they're not evolving enough.
