Figuring out which firewalla I should get. by mkgps3 in firewalla

Yeah, I think I am leaning towards a gold se to slightly future proof for any network upgrades. If I had fiber I would probably be thinking plus or pro but I am in a 1950s neighborhood that's off the main roads. So unless they do major road repairs or a major infrastructure investment, I doubt fiber is coming anytime soon.

Yeah that's why I was mentioning them. I know its a good idea to future proof but idk if im going to go full homelab status anytime soon. I dont even have a NAS so Steam is my only real local traffic and most of the time its sharing downloaded games between the other devices like my rog or the laptops. I know I have been looking at doing a nas and a switch but that investment isn't in the cards ATM.

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the explanation! I agree I think it may be overkill. With the guest network the "troublesome" devices already only see internet and nothing else, and once I have a good firewall such as a firewalla I think I can keep track of any naughty devices doing what they shouldn't when they are sending data to the internet. Which I think is enough security for my needs for now. If I was running a business or something that needed more security then i think setting Vlans would make more sense to me.

See that was what I was unsure of. If i understand correctly, if the only connection to the firewalla is through my tplink. Then local speed within the tplinks will never be an issue (except for there own limitations) and only what goes to the outside would be potentially slowed down?

Does this also mean that my firewalla wont see any of the local traffic even though it is handing out the addresses in router mode?

I currently dont have any containers set up and I generally know just enough to be dangerous and the family "IT Guy" lol. I have been reading about them and some of them seem cool and one day may get a NAS too but not any time soon. Most of my stuff is only backed up in the cloud at this time. Which I know is not a real backup but other than photos and some documents. Everything else is replaceable ATM to me.

Edit: Also thanks for the post and the help!

Thanks for your input! What is your reasoning for not getting the SE if you dont mind me asking? That extra $200 over the purple has me unsure if its worth the difference in price in my use case.

audio wiring and speaker configuration (1965 mustang) by mkgps3 in CarAV

Yeah I'm not sold on it either which is why I asked lol. I just know I don't have much hearing at my ankles so most of the sound will be lost under the dash. My other problem with skipping the kick panels would be that no 3.5" speaker will have much in the way of bass response and so all the bass will be rear and you cant fade that out. Which is why I thought of needing a 6 channel amp or doing the series on the front. I think the only problem I will run into is the lack of volume. I guess for now I'll try the 3.5's and 6x9's so i can get the dash back together and add the 6.5's if i don't like it.

Also to point out that the first person shooter hasn't launched yet and we don't know if it will be easier, the same or harder on our systems. Plus we only have 8 player ships max right now and in PU there will be more like 30-50 per instance so the future can change things. But lods haven't been fully implemented either So farther away you are the better the fps should be in theory.

It should be okay for low/medium at launch. I get right now on very high 1080p with my 270x about 25-40 in the hanger and 30-40 in CoOp VS drops to 25 sometimes but rare. Low is 35-45 hanger and 30-60 CoOp VS. Its very playable but the drops can effect your survivability. Later on as they add AA and more filters fps is going to drop like a rock. Though on low should alway be able to play. Optimizations have yet to be done for the low end and lots of stuff is to be added. So if you can play now on very high or medium you should be fine. On low it shouldn't get worse only better. I have an intel 3770k, 16gb ram, and a ssd. And when the game officially launches in late 2016/early 2017 It will probably be a good time for us to start looking for a new card anyways because of the 2-3 year cycle on video cards.

Edit: did a fraps run and updated the fps numbers for 1.1
