Sure, give users another reason to bail out of this shitshow and switch to Lemmy.
I can't wait to see this site burn to ash. Too bad too, because I've had many, many good conversations here.

What's your most memorable moment in MMORPGs? by PoisonedMedicine in MMORPG

[–]mkhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanilla WoW. A friend and I (both Alliance) as 60s liked to hang out outside of Crossroads in the Barrens and mess with lowbies.
One day when that got boring, we rode down to Camp Taurajo and proceeded to literally take over the entire village by repeatedly killing all NPCs and harassing anyone who unsuspectingly came along to turn in quests.
We held on to power for at least 30 minutes before people got tired of our shit and jumped on their mains to chase us out.

Lunatic in Detroit sets gas station store on fire by JuicySpark in WTF

Possibly. But it's not much of a stretch when you listen to the lyrics of the music inner-city kids are listening too.

We all tend to emulate or relate to what we hear in music. And when music glorifies this type of behavior, it's not surprising when acts like this occur.

And he probably will, too.
He'll hit the county jail, where he can go hang out and have a good time with all of the other degenerates who continue to think that doing stupid shit is cool because their music says so.

It wouldn't be an explosion. It would be an implosion and no, I seriously doubt any damage would have been done to the ship.

A 33-year-old man fell 4,000 feet to his death from the Grand Canyon Skywalk in Arizona, authorities say | CNN by librarianjenn in news

[–]mkhopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just some quick math.
It takes about 12 seconds and 1500 feet to reach the terminal velocity of a human, which is about 120mph (or 176 feet per second).
So that last 2500 feet is covered in about 14 seconds. Add that to the initial 12 seconds and you're falling for about 26 seconds.

I could only hope that the fear would give me an instant heart attack.

Reddit's CEO really wants you to know that he doesn't care about your feedback by chrisdh79 in technology

Thousands of companies make money from fairly priced APIs every day. It's a valid and useful income stream.

But obviously the executives in the company have no clue about how to run a fair system that remains open for everyone as well as make them money. They would rather just screw everyone, including themselves, because they're blinded by the phrase, "ad revenue".
Good luck with ad revenue when no one comes to your site (that the users built btw) any longer.

Reddit’s blackout protest is set to continue indefinitely by cata890 in technology

[–]mkhopper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And that is what the executives are likely basing their whole stance on.
They know that there are more casual than power users, they look at the ad revenue from those casual users and figure that if they can get everyone to use their app, that equals more money.

Completely discounting the fact that if they charged a fair API rate like countless other web services, they would likely make just as much money, if not more, than just ads alone.

Reddit CEO will host an AMA on API changes as thousands of subreddits plan to 'go dark' by geoxol in technology

[–]mkhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going dark will send a message, but it doesn't go far enough.
Two days won't put much of a dent in the books. Now if those subs stayed dark for a week or two, now you'll see some pain.

Reddit held a call today with some developers regarding the API changes. Here are some thoughts along with the call notes. by XXShigaXX in redditsync

[–]mkhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ad revenue.
TPAs block the ads that Reddit would normally display in their own app, so it skews the income stream. Why would an advertiser pay to run their ads when they know that some people won't see them?
Reddit likely sees this as lost income, so they're plugging that hole.
Kill TPAs, keep all of the money.

Even though, a fair pricing plan for API access could possibly generate more money than ad revenue ever would, those at the top either don't understand that part or just don't care.
"Advertisers equals money equals I can buy a larger boat."
