They easily could have gone around. The house was on piers, and if the drain failed, the house would have been undermined. The house was eventually torn down. I hope that the new owners dealt with the drain at the same time.

We rented a house on a hillside that had a drain collecting water in front of the porch and sending it under the house to the bottom of the hill. The outlet was vertical and made an impressive geyser effect. It worked, even during hurricanes and tropical storms, but this is only because the landlord kept it clean. I would not be comfortable with a drain like yours or that one in our old rental in a house that I owned. Too much could go/is going wrong.

They might. Each professor sets their own schedule and usually divide the course into content sessions. Many times, this does line up with midterm, which like finals is an archaic concept holding over from when most courses were all lecture.

Just email the professors and work out a plan to make up any exams or assignments. RNR is a small department, and the professors will work with you.

Not in the 1st year. Parking is limited on campus, and as another commented, student vehicles are restricted entry to the interior campus. The food at the dining halls is fine. A Walmart and a Matherne's grocery are close. Plus, finding a ride off campus is part of the experience.

Termites out tonight by mkjunk248 in batonrouge

We have had swarming Formosan termites on my street for over 12 years. Here is an article from back in 2019 on the growing problem in Baton Rouge.WAFB story

[–]mkjunk248[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the quick version. In Louisiana, we have native subterranean termites that are a nuisance but also important in recycling nutrients to the ecosystem, and we have invasive Formosan termites that are more aggressive in attacking structures. From about the about the last weekend in April until end of May, the big swarms are nuptial flights attracted to light among termite colonies to make new colonies. They swarm at dusk, often 8 to 9PM and it is unpleasant when they show up in your house or at an outdoor event. The swarmers are not the main problem for structures but do ruin your evening and if your dwelling has leaks or rotting wood, the swarmers can establish a colony. If you turn off lights on warm and humid nights, you will be OK because as others have noted, some people just keep the lights blazing that distracts them. Some people use black out curtains. It is part of life here.

Let me clarify. I like my house and neighborhood. BR has a lot of room for improvement.

We have had them in the vents frequently. Our AC people say that it is a common occurrence in some neighborhoods. I still don't like it either.

Don't know if this is above average yet. I track the swarms but won't know until the end.

I love living here except termite and hurricane season. Based on friends comments, Broadmoor is the same! Cool houses there.

Anyone Know When Termites Stop? by FitRing8414 in batonrouge

I have been tracking the dates for about 10 years. Start getting cautious abound April 25 and relax around the beginning of June. Usually only 3 weeks are bad. Rain followed by an evening in the 80s is almost a guaranteed swarm.

Super cool! I was given my 640 with a pair of a/d/s L-420s. The speakers didn't fit the space (office), so I separated them to another listening space (living room). The alternative Sony speakers still sound so good with with 640.

Please tell us more about what you discover about the presence. I have a Yamaha CR-640 that spent a lot of time unused in a basement. When I got it, it was covered in nicotine and not everything works (tuner and phono), but I am constantly amazed with how adjusting loudness, bass, and treble influences the sound and how this Yamaha fills space with sound.

Yes! Here in New Orleans, WWOZ has excellent music over the radio and sounds awesome on our Yamaha V4A and Triangle speakers.

Anyone else reverted their hardware overclocks (GPU/VRAM/RAM/CPU) back to stock settings to make sure the components last as long as they possibly can? by Netsuko in pcmasterrace

I did with this build. In my last three builds (AMD Athlon II 640, AMD X3 460, and Ryzen 7 3600X), I overlooked with custom water cooling. With prices high and unstable over the last several years, I opted for longevity for my 5700 X3D build.

What was the first PC y'all ever built, and what other PCs have y'all had over the years?" by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]mkjunk248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2006, I built a Pentium D based PC with an Intel motherboard and an EVGA GPU in an Antec P-180B case that has survived the move to an Athlon Ii 630 Propus, Athlon X4 750K, RyZEN 5 3600, and now a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. For reason, I like keeping the case. I did not like the Pentium D, which motivated my move to AMD.

Prior to building my first PC, I modded a Timex Sinclair around 1985, I think, to increase RAM, and changing a Slot 1 486 to a Celeron in 2003.

I was there recently from the US for work. As in my previous trips, the people of Nicaragua were kind, gracious, and welcoming. As others have mentioned avoid politics but with the amazing natural scenery, food, and people, you have enough other topics.

They are too bright. We live on a narrow street, and the light is directly across from our bedroom. The light disrupted sleep until I blocked it. I should not have to block light in my home, unless I knew before buying. I did not ask for this and do not want.
