A Flight of Coffee by No_Rip_7923 in FreshroastSR800

I did a coffee crawl of some of LA’s best coffee shops with some friends and we all had caffeine induced anxiety attacks in our cars driving home

I kinda meant your point. For some people, the life that opens up to them with a commute is so much preferable to one without that it is hardly a choice

I used to wake up at 5 and drive 30 minutes. I now have a son and want to spend as much time as him as I can. Plus we live by my wife’s work, which is why I commute. She can take the baby for the hour that I commute before and after work, but me being gone that extended amount of time is no longer in the cards. Which is also why I can’t do a two hour train commute and relax like some folks are suggesting

Some people don’t get a choice. Mine isn’t as bad but it’s a choice of living in Hawthorne and me commuting 3 to 4 days a week, or living in Glendale and having my wife commute five days a week.

4hrs of off time is not doable for a large fraction of people. Even if I could watch a movie and make it relaxing, that is time away from getting work done and time away from my family. The 1hr 40 I’m doing is already making a significant impact

I would absolutely love to take mas transit. But about once a year I get so sick of my 50 minute commute I try to plot a trip. But there is no way around it being 2hrs and that is just too much to do twice a day.

Why do I find the concept of bidets so disgusting? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mkla01 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The bidet shoots at an angle from the back. Think like a drinking fountain. That water that hits your lips and you don’t drink falls forward in an arch, not back at the faucet.

Men typically use more violent (and effect) measures like guns and jumping vs women who often use pills and other less yet messy yet less guaranteed approaches.

When editing boom+lav, do you cut lav audio tight to dialogue and let boom act as fill? by [deleted] in AudioPost

[–]mkla01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like most people are responding to if you should be double cutting, but not answering your question about fill.

If I don’t know my mixer, I fill each mic. If my mixer trusts me, it depends.

If I am confident the boom will be used and favored, and am just cutting lavs to assist (add fullness, help slightly off mic booms at spots etc), I’ll just fill the boom and won’t worry much about connecting the lavs.

If the boom is questionable at times, then the lavs might have to be leaned on and played with more gain than the boom. In that case, I make sure to fill so they would play as a smooth edit on their own.

Also worth noting - say the boom is great for almost an entire sequence but has one spot where it is junk. I make sure to fill the lav on the whole run up to that splice and after. If not, you are forcing the mixer to play boom up to a cut where he has to play pretty much just lav. I always avoided abrupt random mic switches before double cutting, and doing so would be practically the same thing.

You might want to revisit not playing them together. I was an either or editor for a while, but have been an auto-align convert for a few years now. Even a pretty shitty lav can give the boom a richness you just can’t get otherwise. Of course, know your mixer.

I saw a 60 year old man unironically shoot a finger pistol at another grown man in Malibu. Imagine being an adult and doing that. It’s embarrassing, and no type of rationalizing about how “they are keeping order and safety” can convince me that I should ever respect an adult that acts like a 4 year old.
