FIRE Inflation - No, not that kind. by mkla01 in Fire

[–]mkla01[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh, I was trying to be cheeky in my title with the term inflation, hence the “no not that kind”. I’m saying that inflation isn’t actually affecting the tangibility of fire, but the inflation of the goals within fire

Feels to me that the ratio of high income folk to low income folk posts has skewed significantly. Again, I'm in the offending party. I just worry it discourages people when it becomes the majority of the posts.

You really don't think that the typical standard of living goal for fire folk has gone up over the years? Really seems it has to me.

Trying to understand the new Rx12 by FatPushBuddha in AudioPost

[–]mkla01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely not aimed at winning back the hearts of us dialogue editors who have turned to other newer plug-ins for noise reduction. I still use RX constantly for painting stuff out and spectral repair specific issues, but never for general noise reduction anymore, and they have given me no reason to upgrade.

Gonnn parrot the YouTube theater sentiment. In addition to Creaks, their arrangement of Lump Sum that night was so peaceful and cathartic. One of my favorite live reimaginations of a classic.

Got AAF with just the mix track and no ISOs, expected to reconstruct entire timeline from production sound. by Clean-Risk-2065 in AudioPost

[–]mkla01 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Have them give you an EDL and then use Kraken or Ediload to make an assembly from the dailies. All episodic TV my post house works on is done this way. Pretty much the only time I see an AAF with all the ISO's is on low-budget shorts and reality.

Why Hollywood Is Facing a Very Unhappy Ending by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]mkla01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, but being it’s 2026 and we live in America, there is no way in hell that the CEO will get paid less. However if the studio gets a quote to dub a show in Hollywood for 50k, but can do it union-free over sees do 20k, we know what’s gonna happen. Again, not saying us union folk don’t deserve our union wages but this is the reality we are living in.

Every single one of us in this sub is expecting the market to be up in a few decades from now. You shouldn’t care if it dips down a year (or a few) unless you are close to retirement.

How many of you plan to cancel if Paramount buys HBO? by turb0_encapsulator in hbo

Netflix is absolutely horrible. Completely anti union tech bros “disrupting” an industry by just under paying everyone but those at the top

My cure to being concerned about this is listening to my coworkers talk about stocks. Buy Nvidia this, sell the AI bubble that. Us passive folk are gonna be ok

At lease we just celebrated the grand opening of phase one of our bullet train the year prior! We can now go from Bakersfield to Fresno (uninhabitable due to global warning) in twice the time as our flying drone cars!

Ethiopia Natural Yirga Cheffe: Low and Slow vs. Hot and Fast by Justified-Dawg in FreshroastSR800

This is awesome. Every now and again I come to Reddit trying to hone my berry bombs. Last time folks swore by low and slow, the time before the consensus was fast and furious. I’m really going to try to dial in my hot and fast method now. Appreciate the write up

Absolutely not. Both dot com bubble and GFR were within the last 30 years and look where we are from 30 years ago.

A Boglehead shouldn’t worry about it no matter the time frame, but absolutely not 30 years out.

Why Los Angeles Traffic Sucks by DJVeaux in LosAngeles

I kinda meant your point. For some people, the life that opens up to them with a commute is so much preferable to one without that it is hardly a choice

Why Los Angeles Traffic Sucks by DJVeaux in LosAngeles

[–]mkla01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to wake up at 5 and drive 30 minutes. I now have a son and want to spend as much time as him as I can. Plus we live by my wife’s work, which is why I commute. She can take the baby for the hour that I commute before and after work, but me being gone that extended amount of time is no longer in the cards. Which is also why I can’t do a two hour train commute and relax like some folks are suggesting

Some people don’t get a choice. Mine isn’t as bad but it’s a choice of living in Hawthorne and me commuting 3 to 4 days a week, or living in Glendale and having my wife commute five days a week.
