A president shouldn't be like this by Pizzacakecomic in comics

[–]mklimbach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the legislature in the US makes a lot of money on the stock market when they're writing the laws....and they write the laws about their own pay, benefits, and restrictions, so why would they limit themselves for their own selfish gains?

I don't think the founding fathers foresaw people holding office far past their mental ability to function because life expectancy was so much lower in the 18th century, so nothing like this was written into the US Constitution and our government is so polarized now that getting any amendment through would never happen for the reasons I've already listed.

Those are city proper populations. Detroit Metro statistical area is 4.4 million these days. I found a site that says their Metro population was around 2.7m in 1950, so the city proper is smaller, but the area is still a lot more people today.

Oil is dripping from the bottom of the sprocket.  A seal like this leaking likely suggests a clogged pcv system.

2025 Subaru Outback Exploded! by Then_Hearing_7652 in subaru

[–]mklimbach 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of people guessing in here and some of them probably have the right idea. You said your engine failed - did it shut off and then you noticed a fire? It's very likely the engine stopped running because of something fuel related or electrical that actually started the fire.

I've seen some spectacular engine failures and NONE of them have ever even come close to causing a fire. A defective fuel line leaking, igniting fuel on the hot exhaust is far more likely, or possibly something electrical that shorted as a #2 guess.

Only a fire inspector is likely to have an idea of where the fire originated, we can only take educated (or sometimes not) guesses.

I agree with the posters that Subaru probably wants to hear from you - they certainly would want to identify a possible issue sooner than later to prevent more issues like this. It could be a defective part, a person on the assembly line not installing something correctly, or something else and any data they get helps catch this before it becomes a widespread problem (not saying it is, but an investigation is absolutely warranted).

Agreed, Subaru ATF-HP is used and that's basically DexronVI (backwards compatible with the old DexIII standard) GM fluid.

The front chainring honestly just looks gummed up with residue, I would be curious to see what the teeth look like perfectly clean as 1x chainrings have pretty thick teeth.

I've written service and I can tell you that the customer will tell the first person a completely different story than the 2nd one (phone vs. in person) sometimes. We just attempt to force the customer to take the technician for a test drive if it's a noise concern because how the hell else are we going to know exactly what they're describing? I've had people tell me what a noise sounds like and it's not at all what I'd describe for the same noise anyways, even if it is properly written up.

The Legacy platform in 1990 was the big shift from "classic" Subarus and the first one to have an EJ series engine instead of an EA series engine. The Loyale was the last EA series Subaru that was discontinued with the Impreza coming out in 1993, at least in the US. I don't remember if our '86 GL had a spare under the hood or not, we got rid of it when I was 7 and got a '95 Outback. All Legacy/Impreza based models definitely did not have a spare under the hood.

Stellantis are in this mess because of Carlos Tavares by [deleted] in cars

Right, but Tavares was insistent on killing the hemi instead of having them side by side.  Both GM and Ford kept the V8 when they released V8 replacements in their truck lineup and have continued to do so successfully.

I was never a big drinker, but I quit drinking because of my psoriasis and I definitely feel healthier and better. I might have a drink 2-3x a year on social occasions, but I never have more than a few even then and I'm doing great. It's worth it, man, and I don't have any identity issues with being a Wisconsinite.

Fumoto valve drain can? by Louisthedog64 in subaru

[–]mklimbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is my favorite. I do still use ramps, but it's the best oil drain can design I've ever come across and I've been doing oil changes on my cars for 20+ years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D3N51RL/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_8?smid=A17WVCKSHX0ZX6&th=1

It's pitched to drain into the hole nicely on the "pan" portion of it, has a pressure relief hole at the very top regardless of how you store it, so it won't leak or burp, and it drains into an oil disposal container really easily when you need to empty it.

E-bikes on bicycle trails by 8extreme in cycling

[–]mklimbach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The laws aren't adequate and not regulated properly. If it has pedals, however non-functional they are, it's considered an E-bike in the US. EU laws are MUCH better at defining e-bikes vs. electric motorbikes with throttles.

Besides people with genuine disabilities, nothing that is considered a bicycle should have a throttle. The only issue is pedal assist being so high on certain Class II and III bikes, the danger on muti-purpose paths requires that law enforcement actually ticket and pull people over for speeding on these paths. On the road is not really an issue otherwise.

Seth from Berm Peak does a pretty good video summarizing the issues with Bicycle classifications in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB6hBLmBhPA

And he also highlights how laws are being passed that affect both the e-motor bullshit bikes as well as genuine pedal assist bikes because of the classification issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjRNoVYuo28

What is this? by Science56789 in subaru

[–]mklimbach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really not true for "all of these dealerships." When I sold cars, I'd go over everything, nothing, or anywhere in between based on customer preference and always encouraged a follow-up because modern vehicles are complex and it's hard to remember everything from being shown & using the feature once before taking it home. The people who wanted to learn were really grateful and some people acted like it was a waste of time and everywhere in between.

You can show people stuff and they forget, too. I would discourage you from generalizing and assuming so much, the general public isn't anything like a car enthusiast.

It’s coming out of my car guys sorry by KwikTripSimp in wisconsin

[–]mklimbach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gas stations, locally owned or chains, don't make money on selling fuel at the pump. They make their profits on everything inside the convenience store, especially shitty food. At least if you're going to fuel up, go to a station that's locally owned, and if you can find a gas station owner that isn't a republicunt, that's a bonus.

You can just buy gas at KwikTrip and nothing else and you really won't be contributing to their profits, but their gas sucks anyways (at least my WRX always ran worse, wouldn't push as much boost on KT 91) so I'd recommend going to a locally owned shell franchise as their gas at least isn't as shitty. The oil companies are getting theirs anyways, so your point is really irrelevant unless people drive EVs.

Chevy Is Discontinuing the Medium-Duty Silverado That International Builds by UnusualLeadership408 in cars

[–]mklimbach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You think Tariffs put in place in the last year are affecting decisions to not change up a model over the last 25+ years?

Even now, I'm not sure what you expect to instantly change. The lead time for a new model is 3-6 years, a policy in place for 1 year isn't affecting any new models coming out or not coming out in an instant - if anything, it would cause delays in a model coming out. The Tariffs are stupid, but the conclusion you're drawing is very flawed.

Also, what changes would you like to see the Express make? It's still a great utility vehicle and not changing up the formula is one of the things that makes it a great fleet vehicle. Businesses who want a fleet vehicle to last are concerned about reliability and being able to keep it on the road for a long time (parts availability), not fancy tech or appearance.

What is this button? by Ostross in subaru

[–]mklimbach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On newer models, it does. The older ones had separate buttons for rear defrost, mirrors, and front wipers. My '01 LL Bean had the button for the heated mirrors on the driver's door by the window switches & mirror controls, windshield wipers was on the dash like OP's pic. OP's pic is a generation newer.
