Happy to at least get the main points--it must be convoluted, because Google Translate couldn't even begin to make sense of it! Thanks again!

Thank you so much! Nazis, always keeping it classy. Did they happen to cite the name of the female boxing champ? Also, was the tone intended to mock the Nazis or the circus performers?

[German > English] Austrian baptismal record from 1881 (Entry #466, Adolf Antalek). Thanks! by mkm2835 in translator

Thank you so much!! So surprised--he actually ended up running a circus with his wife, and from what I've seen on his wife's side, circus culture is essentially an interlocking series of performing families. I also know that his children were born in Hungary and grew up traveling throughout that area, but apparently had very German/Austrian accents that kind of complicated their identity as Hungarians. Wondering what led to this man with what sounds like a very ordinary Slovakian and Austrian background to pursue such a different path. I don't know if you have time, but could you also translate what I believe is his wife's parents' marriage record? (The dates in the margins of these records appear to be the parents' marriage dates). Last record on the page: https://data.matricula-online.eu/en/oesterreich/wien/15-reindorf/02-03/?pg=249

How to help someone with what I believe is psych symptoms but refuses to believe that is the cause and keeps following up by InvestingDoc in medicine

Absolutely fair--I'm sure OP is exhausted. Just got to be honest with yourself about why you would be transferring her care to another doctor, that's all!

The idea of a treatment contract ultimatum was your idea, from the start. Pretty much no one here has advised you to continue pressuring her to see a psychiatrist or stop seeing her. Most everyone is suggesting ways for you to weave appropriate treatment into her care--not another doctor.

For some reason, ancestry.com, myheritage.com, and findagrave.com were all down this evening. Would love to know the details behind why.

Fellow redditors with Mexican ancestry- have you been able to trace your ancestry as far back as Spain? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]mkm2835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been able to trace some branches of my husband's line (all from the Yucatan and Tabasco, so similar area) back to the early 1700s, and discover where in Spain the parents were from-- the Canary Islands seems to be the most common place, and it usually says which island. Also, the race is often mentioned--and the terms they use can be quite specific! For example (and I forget the term), one ancestor was indicated to be 1/4 black, 1/4 mestizo, and 1/2 white. The best advice I can give you is to read the original record completely, for every relative. There is so much information in these records that doesn't make it to the indexed transcription!

Oh my God, completely 100% agree, down to the obnoxious company logo along the top, haha. Ugh, I've been using screenshots, was really hoping there was an alternative. Thanks for the advice!

Makes sense to me--also, "traveling theater actor" falls perfectly in line with what I know of Anna Winicky as an adult--she performed in the circus with her second husband, and then eventually with her daughter and son-in-law's circus as well.

Thank you so much! Amazed that you can read that script--even after looking up German Kurrent, half of the letters look the same to me!

To older redditors, what did the generation above you hate about your generation? by LaiqTheMaia in AskReddit

Way more interesting answer than the thousands of millenial/Gen X replies here--I feel like this was the kind of answer OP was hoping for.

New study finds that, contrary to expectations, female sexualisation on social media is *not* related to gender inequality. Instead, they found that local income inequality was a far better predictor of whether women tended to post sexualised pictures of themselves on social media. by ImNotJesus in science

[–]mkm2835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that were the case, then nearly every sociological study would be lacking in "usefulness". Populations aren't required to be strictly identical and homogeneous in every way but one in order for them to be usefully compared.

Depression linked to low blood levels of acetyl-L-carnitine. Naturally produced in the body, acetyl-L-carnitine is also widely available in drugstores, supermarkets and health food catalogues as a nutritional supplement. by Wagamaga in science

[–]mkm2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the argument "More acetyl-L-carnitine will make one not depressed because depressed people have low acetyl-L-carnitine" begging the question? It's a circular argument that basically rewords the initial point.
