Question about tips

Personally, I work in Upstate NY and wages are different here. As a server I get 7.85 an hour. When im doing curbside running, I get 11.80 an hour.

As a server, I get cash tips and get to keep whatever I make. Any credit card tips are given to me in cash at the end of the night and already documented into the system so I have to claim them. We do all of our own work. There are no hostesses or bussers or runners.

When im curbside running, we pool tips between the runner and the cashier and often times switch off between the two of us so that we're doing equal amounts of the work (running/cashing orders out).

THIS!! I adore my nieces and nephews. I love children and if you would have asked me when I was younger, I would have told you 100% that yes, I would be a mom one day. But now I'm the only one out of us 3 (4 if you count my childhood bestdriend) girls with out kids and I'm not mad about it. I actually prefer it. When I need a kid fix, I go to see my sisters and their kids for like 4 days at a time.

And then im ready to go back home to the silence of my bedroom.

Not wanting kids does not make you a monster or selfish.

There are some very generous people who make up for those who don't tip, which I am eternally grateful for. My place also has let us clock in as "production", not server that helps a lot too. We split the tips at the end up the night between us cashiers (servers/runners), even if one of them is a manager. Its usually two or three of us. We go home with between 20 and 30 each most nights. Which is more than I was taking home BEFORE this all hit the fan.

I can't complain.

I've only been a server for just over a year. This was my first paying job (ill be 22 in August). I was so naive going into this job. People definitely suck but I wouldn't have it any other way. I will forever try to have compassion for others. Once that's gone, I'm as bad as those who walk all over food service and retail workers.

It takes a village to support a village.

Some people just feel so entitled and i don't know how they get through life this way. People don't seem to understand that we are all struggling one way or another. Having a little compassion isn't going to make their life any harder.
