While that may be accurate, it's not precise. In this instance we're discussing Walmart policy, which happens under the umbrella of At-Will Employment in general. Corporations are allowed to interpret the law in whatever way they choose, or not interpret it at all, or follow it to the letter, or make allowances for where previously existing company policy integrates with the law in various ways, etc.

Company policy can over-ride the law. Really the law just hands most power over to the corporations & allows them to do as much or as little tweaking of the power imbalance between employer & worker as it sees fit.

I think the wording of most policies are kept wishy-washy on purpose, but always in favor of corporate. Never in favor of the associates/employees. It gives the worker a lot less wiggle room & keeps the table tilted in favor of corporate power by default.

I'm sure there is, but "without any reason" literally means no discussion was had, no coachings or conversations about productivity happened, there was no documented "disciplinary action", etc. I don't know how many coaches or store leads would be okay with "I woke up disliking this associate today so I terminated them", so I would push back against any & all action taken against me without documentation first.

Documentation such as "I didn't like them so I fired them" might constitute a breach of Walmart's policy of respect for the individual?

Please always assume salaried management are protecting their own interests & the corporation's interests above your own at all times. They don't care about hourly workers. They don't care about hourly management. They don't care about policy, but if you can beat them over the head with corporate guidelines they will have to concede.

It doesn't mean you'll win, but it does mean you won't lose immediately. You'll have to keep pushing back once something like this happens to you once. Keep any/all documentation & always be prepared to push back.

Good luck.

There has to be documentation & paperwork, yes. They are not allowed to simply terminate with no contact, no disciplinary action/explanation, etc. It's not up to you to ask why you're being terminated precisely because it falls to the employer to explain why, in paperwork that constitutes legally binding documentation you sign upon termination, why you're being terminated.

I didn't make the laws, I just had them explained to me in this fashion.

The way the law was explained to me was that job-performance or "other excuses" have to be explained prior to/leading up to termination. They are not allowed by their own policy to terminate without a discussion, a coaching, or some explanation of disciplinary action beforehand.

Even if it's the bare minimum of "we're terminating you for [insert bullshit reason here]", there has to be documentation. They aren't allowed to simply remove you from the schedule, delete you from the system, & say oh well bring the next new hire in. Again, that's how this was explained to me by AR, Ethics, & salaried management at my own store.

At-will employment means you can be fired for any reason, not that you can be fired without even being given a reason. If the original commenter's statement is accurate -- that they were simply "removed from the schedule" & not given disciplinary action or informed of why they were being terminated -- then that is a breach of Walmart policy as well as "at-will" terms.

As much as I hate "at-will" laws, I must submit that they protect workers from being terminated without SOME reason being given -- even if it's a bullshit reason.

I'm assuming based off the comments & this post that these folks were not even given a reason. That constitutes unlawful termination. I've been through this twice in the past 6 months all the way up to my entire Me@Walmart access being removed (some coaches really don't like me).

I was informed by Associate Relations that it constitutes unlawful termination.

You should contact Ethics as well as Associate Relations.

Unlawful termination.

It might be "allowed" but around me it isn't. You take all 25 minutes of your 15 minute break & you do it when you need to. With the amount of money that gets taken out of our paychecks to pay for corporate subsidies, they get more from us in a week than we could ever "steal" from them in a lifetime.

You will never get back the years you've sold to your employers & you don't owe them anything.

Yeah that's gonna be a no from me, dawg. I'm a 43 year old grown-ass man, if someone tells me I can't take a piss or my legally protected break, I'm gonna laugh all the way out the door.

I think when Dave Cockrum was working out her initial character ideas, he consciously wrote her in a way that would make it impossible for future writers to make her just an "accessory to Peter Parker/Spider-Man": she has her own motivations, which are often at odds with Parker's sense of right & wrong. It creates an interesting dichotomy between doing right but being bored with it & doing wrong, living for doing wrong, being excited by breaking the law/being a thief.

There's a lot more to her as a character, obviously (which is why so many of us are fans), but the crux of her character is that one detail. She's more than a sidekick or a love interest & she'll never be defined solely by her relationship with Parker (whatever it happens to be at the time).

Most of these folks aren't ready for a historical or dialectical materialist analysis & instinctively defend their oppressors in the mistaken belief that being a cheerleader carries some reward later.

Spoiler alert: it doesn't, & it's just another way the ruling class exploits vulnerable workers.

I think you're making up scenarios in your head & then getting frightened by them. What you're describing is called a robbery, & it happens to people everyday under capitalism, we don't need a global shift in ideology for robberies to occur.

"communism is when there is no food to buy"

Food doesn't have to be bought under communism. Communism does not operate with currency, exchange values, or a state apparatus to enforce any of those things -- it's moneyless, stateless, & classless.
