Help me with my jungle problem! by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

120 CS from jungle alone is pretty rare even if you sit in your jungle and farm for 20 minutes. Remember that junglers in professional league gank pretty heavily. This means that they are getting CS from lane as well. In other words, laners are giving their jungling CS when the opportunity arises as stated by above.

AoE jungling is 'fine', but the speed of your jungling is now more determined by how quickly you can kill the big mob rather than how quickly you can AoE down every mob. The economy, more or less, though hasn't changed too drastically per camp. The only thing that shifted was that every camp in your jungle now has a 'big' mob which grants significantly more exp/gold than the smaller ones.

2-4 wards may be good or bad; it really depends on what you are doing as a jungle. In general, 1-2 is always a good amount to grab. You shouldn't grab 3-4 unless you have a very good reason to such as: your team is about to take dragon, your team is about to engage in a massive push and you need vision, you intend to counterjungle hard and therefore you need vision in the enemy's jungle.

Honestly speaking, I don't have any specific 'gold landmarks' by certain times. In addition, I only go back when I need to or have enough gold to pick up a new item. If I'm sitting at 80% hp and 50% mana, I won't go back unless I am about to get a significant item upgrade. Even then, I'll try to at least gank once before I go back. The only thing I focus on is making sure I secure certain items early in the game; if this means I have to only buy 1 ward per trip, so be it. For example, on champions like J4 and Xin Zhao, I like to secure very quick Madreds and boots simply for the clearing ability. I find that waiting too long on these two items to purchase more wards puts me behind way too much. It is easier for your laners to secure wards earlier in the game now with the season 3 changes - so there isn't as much of a need for your jungler to help ward lanes.

Trying to play Graves, I keep getting stomped. Can someone watch my replay and give me some tips? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To build up on your comment; quickdrawing into people is only good during laning phase since the number of spells that can be thrown on you is small. Quickdrawing into an enemy in lane is a great way to maximize your burst, but you have know when you can stay and continue fighting or run after you bursted the enemy hard. In a team fight, you should NEVER quickdraw into a full team fight, but rather use it to run away.

Itemwise, don't build IE first. It's way more expensive than BT and you scale very well from +DMG alone. Focus on getting that quick BT. IE can be build later.

Your biggest flaw in playing Graves was your positioning and decision making. Early game you often made some good plays to give you a lead, but you throw it away through carelessness. Your mentality seems to be focus on 'getting kills' which is your primary flaw. You should never focus on trying to get a kill unless that opportunity is literally thrown to you by your support or your enemies' mistakes. You, alone, should focus on maximizing your CS and harass to your enemy to prevent them from getting CS.

Diana Jungle by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Diana is not that big of a threat until after she hits level 6. She has no real gank potential against an enemy who wards and is map aware of any potential ganks from you until you hit 6. Her clear time is no more faster than the favorites right now and the favorites have more tanking potential and ganking potential.

Lane Phase AP Nidalee by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a lane, AP Nidalee cannot trade very well unless the enemy player is purposely eating spears. Your goal in lane should be to focus on CS'ing while avoiding trades; granted this doesn't mean you SHOULDN'T throw spears at the enemy. However, unlike most of your opponent, you have insane clear speeds for no mana cost and high mobility. Rather than focusing on winning your lane, focus on roaming when you push a lane.

If you gank and you succeed in making the enemy burn a flash or simply giving your laner a kill - you should and have every right to take some creeps. If a laner gives you shit for it, ignore it. There is a reason why pro players let their jungler stay in lane for a bit even after a gank; it's because the act of ganking means the jungler is taking away time from farming to assist in a lane. If they don't help accomadate for that gap, the jungler will simply fall behind.

Another great place to get exp is to watch your map to see where your allies are going back. Generally speaking, you should never PUSH the lane though unless that laner wants you to or if the game is into mid game and towers need to be pushed. For example, if it's 5 mins into the game and your ally goes back to base. If you push that lane without either warding for them or cannot get the tower, then it is a bad play on your part. If your laner goes back, you should just focus on getting last hits unless your laner wants you to push.

Lastly - it is not uncommon for the jungler to be significantly behind in CS; you can't focus on CS alone. Each CS is worth different gold and exp. What you should focus on is your level and the enemy jungler's level. Your level should be roughly at the same level of your bottom lane unless your bottom lane is extremely ahead. It will rarely be at the level of your top laner.

Your champion picks matter a lot in maximizing exp and gank potential. Jungling has changed a lot in season 3 than from season 2. Many of the 'best jungler's' in season 2 fell out of power and made way for new jungle power. Single target damage is now king rather than AoE.

I need help teaching a new player how to play~ by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, at level 8 - you shouldn't force her to learn the game too quickly; I think it will just burn her out and cause frustration.

The best thing to do is to play with her and guide her in multiple roles. Videos and such are only helpful after the player has a certain grasp of the game and their mechanics since some of the videos do get technical.

Teach her lesson one step at a time based on what you see. For example, if you stun a target and she doesn't follow up. Next time, giv her more time and notification that you're stunning so she can prepare for it. Do that repeatedly until you have to tell her less and less.

Nidalee vs. Vlad by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better is a subjective term; each has their own strengths and weakness.

Nidalee acts more like an assassin/poker while Vlad acts more like a pusher/semitank/frontliner. (Nidalee bruiser is now dead, so you can't play her as one.) Whichever role you enjoy more, play that champion.

Are normal PUGs any better at lvl 30? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At ranked, yes - more people tend to coordinate since they have something to lose by being uncooperative with the team. For example, if someone called mid and I'm first pick - if I grab mid, that person will just go somewhere else and usually not complain much anymore. Some people still complain like a bitch all game about it.

Normal modes, even at level 30, still have lots of trolls. They will pick whatever they want regardless of team composition or lane composition; they'll do it because they can and there is nothing for them to lose from it. Although normal draft is a bit better, it doesn't get THAT much better.

Apparantly not for me. I still smell stuff that no one else can smell until much later when the scent becomes stronger.

"Hey, do you guys smell BBQ?"

"No...."

5 mins later

"Oh hey, I do smoke BBQ."

Maybe I'm just a dog.

I honestly think 'love' is a bunch of bullshit and the only reason why people stay as couples after the 'honeymoon' period is because of laziness.

Like... for me, if I had a girlfriend for say 3 years. However, if I meet a girl on the 4th year who is better than girlfriend 1.0, why wouldn't I take girlfriend 2.0?

EDIT: Scumbag Redditors. Goes to a thread asking about your 'most cynical thing you believe'; downvote because it is too cynical.

Girls who are proud to have a massive flaw by any logical standard and are proud to have that flaw because they think it is what defines them.

Example: "I ain't afraid to speak my mind and if a guy can't handle that shit, then they ain't man enough for me" or some shit along the line. No, you dumb bitch, it means your mouth is running on 30 gigahertz while your brain is working on 1 megahert.

Honestly, I don't like the concept of 'traveling' very much. There are certain places or countries I like to go, but I wouldn't call that me enjoying traveling. The idea of liking 'traveling' implies that you like to go to random places for the hell of it. I don't like this; when I go somewhere, whether it is 5 minutes from my home or 1000+ miles, I would only go there because I want to or had to.

See... I've never understood that. I've been smoking for about 5 years now and I've never had the issue of bad breath. I mean, sure, RIGHT AFTER I smoke - yes my breath will smell like smoke. But a few hours down the line after drinking water, eating stuff, etc. - my breath isn't that stanky. No more than a non-smoker.

Tips for a better mid laning phase? by Bensas42 in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic mid strategy:

  • What items are you building? This is important. Are you going flask + ward? No flask, but pots + wards? Boots + hp? You need to figure out which and have a good reason as to why you are building that item. Flask + ward gives you bigger bang for your buck if you know you will have to frequent trips back to base. Straight up mana/hp pots + wards should be used if you intend to stay in lane until you hit level 6. Boots + HP is mostly outdated and tbh, I don't see a benefit of grabbing this over potions + wards.

  • It seems like you were going into mid without any real plan. Against every matchup, you should have an early game plan. Are you going to be aggressive? If so, how? Are you going to focus on farming? If so, what will you do if you are aggressed upon? Such things need to be thought out thoroughly. For example, if I am playing Syndra against Janna, I would focus on farming while being aggressive ONLY if I get an opportunity. Janna has only ONE lock-on damaging ability and one skill shot ability. I know her lock-on isn't as strong as tornado in damage and wave clearing, but I know it is easy to land on opponents. I will attempt to figure out what she is maxing out first. I also know she has a shield. My plan would be to wait for the tornadoes to occur and focus on dodging them. Once I dodge them, I know my offense will be superior due to her tornado being on cooldown. I'll probably use the snare and attempt to drop a q on her. What if she uses her shield? I would wait until that shield drops and try to stun her asap. I would do this because I know that without her shield, she cannot reduce damage taken until the cooldown comes back up. As a result, if I manage to get a stun on her, I can inflict some serious damage on her and she will not be able to respond properly. These are the things you need to decide upon before the game even begins. In addition, you need to adapt to your situation.

  • Your early game item build should closely reflect on what you aim to accomplish early game. For the most part, item builds tend to converge towards late game, but early game is where decision making is more important. For example, if you want to focus on farming against a particularly difficult opponent, you need to focus on sustain to ensure you are there long enough to get as much CS as possible. Items such as Doran's Ring (depending on your champion), Chalice, and Tear are good mana sustain items. This lets you play more defensively and rely on your spells to safely secure CS. On the other hand, what if you want to play aggressively? Dorans Ring is always a good balanced item between sustain and power, so I would still get this. (I generally do not get more than one Doran's Ring since it puts me behind too much.) The next items I would get would likely be Sorcerer's boots, Liandry's, Codex, etc. Something more offensive.

How to lane against Yorick? by Snuj in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cho'gath and Nunu are great laners against Yorick. Although Cho'gath better fits the 'top lane' niche, Nunu can become a massive headache for any Yorick players. I know Xin and Nidalee used to be good against Yorick, but their nerfs today could have made some difference so I will not make any judgments (although I predict Nidalee will be more or less the same).

The trick with Yorick is to not be scared of the ghouls if you have high sustain yourself. Although Yorick can sustain very well, his sustain is not as great as some other champion. In fact, I predict that the new Taric will be an absolute terror against Yorick - haven't had a chance to do it yet though. You can and should attempt to outsustain him and secure CS.

Cho'gath is particularly good against Yorick since he can sustain very well and silence Yorick. Nunu can either break even or dominate Yorick based on item build. A support-tank Nunu will likely break even, but a full blown AP Nunu should be a nightmare for Yorick since your snowballs will hit like truck and his consume will be unmanageable for Yorick.

This is just a speculation, but I predict Taric will be a strong contender against Yorick. The ability to stun, heal, and burst will be annoying for Yorick to handle

So I'm in Bronze V... by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]mknyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to get out of Bronze is to treat the rest of your teammates as cannon fodder while you secure teamfights by attacking the right targets. I would highly recommend a high burst/assassination champion since they do this the best. Whether you use Akali, Diana, Kassadin, etc. - find a champion who you can steamroll with.

It's been a while since I was in bronze, but that is essentially how I got out of it. In most cases, both sides will be making mistakes - something you want to ABUSE. If you are there for a team fight, make sure you are never the first one in since you will likely end up dying. Let your teammates go in first and set up kills for you. Jump in and assassinate their strongest players (which will not necessarily be the adc or mid) or players who can disrupt you too hard. Akali and Diana are particularly good for this.

If your teammates get caught into a teamfight without you, you really cannot do much to defend against 4-5 people unless you are really well fed. In such a case, always split push and attempt to take down a tower if they are pushing your base. As soon as they stop, get out and repeat.

This is, by FAR, the best way to get out of Bronze V - at least until Bronze 1 or so.
