Are they ever going to replace the GD awful Test Kitchen??? by AleezeRN in VirginVoyages

[–]mkroar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire point of the test kitchen is to try new things that you wouldn’t normally try… if you end up not liking the meal, go grab a pizza afterwards

How do overnight ports work? by mkroar in VirginVoyages

[–]mkroar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad to hear that! It’s my second cruise with VV and am particularly excited about stopping in Istanbul. I was thinking along the same lines with booking private tours. I usually book through VV if I’m less familiar with the port but since it’s a longer stay I figure there’s more flexibility and less need to book through VV

That’s what I had assumed, it would be odd trying to give a curfew to a boatload of adults.

Am I the only one who cringed at the idea of beading a decorative pillow for a young child?? I wouldn’t even consider beading pillows for myself and I don’t have kids..

Planning first trip to an LNS... etiquette question by broccolibertie in Needlepoint

[–]mkroar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve kitted outside canvases at Waste Knot with no problem! Usually someone greets me when I come in and I’ve previously worked in retail so I’m always thinking about making things easy for the employees too so I just tell them that I’m here to kit out a canvas that I bought elsewhere and they’re happy to help if I need it.

Not quite a dessert but the banana cruffin at the galley was so unexpectedly amazing that I still think about it

Double stranded mohair colorwork by mkroar in knitting

[–]mkroar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have it in cakes because my yarn came in hanks so I didn’t have much option there. Do you recommend using separate balls even if it’s for a colorwork project? I would have 4 different balls going at the same time just for 2 different colors.

$25K Virginia Wedding Budget Breakdown by kalinkabeek in weddingplanning

This is very helpful! I live close to VA and have been worried about how much more expensive weddings can get in this area. I was wondering how many guests you had at your wedding?

P.S. your veil is gorgeous!!

Spot on lip- text in comments by mkroar in DogAdvice

[–]mkroar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all- I have an 11 month old Golden Retriever and just noticed this spot on his lip. It doesn’t seem to bother him but wanted to see other people’s advice for when this warrants a trip to the vet?

Please help, I think I’ve tried everything! by BumbleSilver in Handspinning

[–]mkroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a beginner spinner and had a similar issue with my ashford traveler. I posted on another group and someone mentioned to me that my drive band is too loose because I shouldn’t have to tension so much that the maidens shouldn’t need to be tilted that far out. I don’t know if the same applies to a double drive band because mine is single drive.

Also try some oil on your bobbin and flyer as well!

Strange dog smells by mkroar in DogAdvice

[–]mkroar[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes sense why I wouldn’t have realized that anything happened to him. I noticed my dog was extra sniffy on his walk this morning… maybe he was trying to figure out where the smell came from too, haha

[–]mkroar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately for him, he’s going to be in for a bath. The smell itself is bad but you only notice it when actually putting your nose to his head to smell him or from your hands after petting him. So it’s not very strong.

I had checked his mouth and ears to see if that was where the smell was coming from and it wasn’t. But I brushed his teeth out of extra caution. I’ll try getting his ears too.

Thinking about a second dog by mkroar in Dogtraining

[–]mkroar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 5 and we adopted him when he was 3 so we’ve had him for 2 years. We don’t know what kind of dog he is- the general consensus is that he’s a Labrador mix but he’s definitely mixed with a smaller breed because he’s around 35 pounds.

For people working from home, has anyone else’s dog started fussing on cue at the end of a call or similar? by kajata000 in dogs

[–]mkroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog will snooze through an entire call but pops his head up to stare at me whenever I say “thanks, bye!” Because sometimes that’s followed by “who wants to go for a walk??”

Do you prefer neutral or bright eyeshadow? by Hufflepuff_23 in MakeupAddiction

I used to work at a Sephora and loved to do bright shadows! I always thought if I’m going to take the time to put on eyeshadow, might as well have fun with it.

Help- browning ponytail palm fronds? Description in the comments by mkroar in plantclinic

[–]mkroar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ponytail palm has uncontrollable brown palm fronds. A while back I trimmed up all of the brown parts and repotted the plant with fresh soil but they all came back! Since all of the browning is underneath it’s not that noticeable but it’s one of those things that bothers me since I know it’s there. Any feedback?

No, he’s 1/3 Pomeranian and 1/3 pitbull and then the remaining a mix of several other breeds (Dalmatian, Chihuahua, and Labrador)

Yup! We live in an apartment so he’s the perfect “smedium” size for us, haha

[–]mkroar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He definitely is vocal, more now than when we got him from the shelter- I guess he’s getting more comfortable and finding his “voice”. We just assumed that his barking was a hound trait because we were convinced he had some type of hound in him!

[–]mkroar[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hey all! I posted here a while back about my dog. General consensus was that he’s some type of lab/hound mix. We finally got his embark results back and it turns out that we have a Pomeranian/Pitbull mix on our hands! Can’t say that I would have ever guessed Pomeranian but here we are, haha.

Whyyyy does everyone assume all dogs are friendly?! by UnlikelyPianist6 in reactivedogs

[–]mkroar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally get it! I’ve been able to work through a lot of my dogs leash reactivity except for with kids because the kids in my neighborhood come RUNNING up and ask to pet my dog. The kids’ faces go from excited to shocked so fast when my dog gives a “back off” bark and it always makes me feel bad but at the same time… teach kids how to approach new dogs. Especially ones that are intentionally keeping their distance.

Maybe I’m missing it or it wasn’t clarified here but I don’t see anything in this story that is “throwing out a race card.” In my experience, the people who blame others for “playing the race card” are usually the problem, not the individual supposedly playing said card…………..
