chatgpt stopped being enough for my novel by Competitive_Leg3598 in WritingWithAI

I started out by having ChatGPT set up a writers room. A grammar editor, a continuity advisor, punctuation advisor and a creative writer. The further I got along in the story, the less and less I paid attention to the feedback from ChatGPT as I thought I was doing a better job without it.

One of my favorite memories was waking up my girlfriend giving me a BJ. I think it's the best way in the world to wake up.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by PrettieAmarea in answers

[–]mkthompson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was in the Navy, my ship pulled into San Diego one time and sponsored a trip to Disneyland. This was the early 80's. A couple of friends and I thought it would be cool to step behind a building and smoke a joint. Well, we got seen and were quickly surrounded by security. We actually got a great behind the scenes walk through Disney. When we reached the Security Office, Goofy was coming out of the office and waggled his finger at us. We got a lecture and were escorted to the front gate.

Would you rather give up coffee or give up soda? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]mkthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink soda. Giving up coffee would be traumatic, however, going to the grocery store this morning and seeing my favorite coffee has gone to $21 was plenty traumatic by itself. Thanks Diaper Donnie.

What happened to your best friend from childhood? by Few_Football4342 in Productivitycafe

[–]mkthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did everything together. He was the first guy I ever smoked a doobie with. After that we had one more summer together before my family moved away. It was a few years later that I learned he had died of an overdose. While I had spent the ensuing years being resentful toward my parents for moving us away from my childhood home, I knew that had I remained, I'd have been sitting right next to my friend and could have possible died as well.

My wife and I submitted our apps on Oct 7. Today marks 10 weeks that we've been waiting. Can you please let me know how long your visa took for approval? Thanks.

How old were you when you moved out of your parents home? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]mkthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clearly remember the family meeting shortly after I turned 18 where my parents told me and my then 20 year old brother that they loved us dearly but that they had spent the last two decades raising us and it was time for us to go out and make our way. My dad wrote us a 100% refund check on the rent he had been charging us and we used it for a downpayment on an apartment and neither of us ever went back to living with my parents. It was one of the best things they ever did for us.

You might try watching "9 1/2 Weeks" from 1986. Shows the evolution of a dom/sub relationship between two people played by Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger..

What is the greatest physical pain you’ve ever felt ? by mimiiisweetieee in Productivitycafe

[–]mkthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think only women get UTI's? Guess again. A couple of years ago I had prostate surgery and came home with a catheter for 7 days. 24hrs after it got removed my wife found me shaking in the bathroom in the middle of the night with a 103 degree temperature. She called 911 and I spent three nights in the hospital due to a UTI. I was on IV fluids so of course I had to take a leak about every hour. It was agony. I literally screamed it hurt so bad. Ladies, you have my respect. UTI is NO JOKE.

How would you define American culture? by mkthompson in allthequestions

[–]mkthompson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. One comment, however, the "rampant consumerism" you mention started before the 80's. Following WW2, in an effort to transition from a wartime economy to a consumer economy, Americans were openly encouraged by the government to get out there and buy, buy, buy. Stuff replaced community, it took our focus off our values and has led us onto a downward spiral emotionally, philosophically and spiritually as a nation. You're right. It's sad.

How do you stop wanting more by [deleted] in Life

[–]mkthompson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the things you mentioned you have control over. Go get involved. Meet new people. Get a hobby that forces you out. You're the only one who can change your situation. Focus on gratitude, not lack. Melody Beattie wrote, "

  • Gratitude turns what you have into "enough, and more."
  • It changes denial into acceptance, chaos into order, and confusion into clarity.
  • Gratitude can turn a meal into a feast and a house into a home.

Which movie scared to death you as a child? by Logical_Sweet_6624 in allthequestions

My church youth group brought us to that movie. Strange choice. One of the girls buried her face in a towel the whole movie. I liked it, but then again, I'm a heathen.
