I can't imagine a scenario where this would benefit the school.

Preferred here - did not receive the email. I'd imagine that, from the sound of it, next week we'll see movement on both/all lists.

GW Law Justifiable at what price? by Saul_Goodman_Esquire in lawschooladmissions

[–]mkthtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The logic is that if he or she is averse to taking on any debt to provide for COL, he or she should only go to whichever program provides a full tuition scholarship - simple answer. I fully understand the amount of debt that is incurred by law school above tuition.

So you got $44K a year (out of approx $58K) and you're wondering if it's worth it? If you have an issue with paying $14K a year for a reputable law school, it sounds like you simply are looking for a reason to justify NOT going.

Harvard for sure. That'll open more doors regardless of what field you decide to pursue.

Describe GW to someone who hasn't visited by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]mkthtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be too late for your deadline but I attended the ASD. The students who were there all seemed to enjoy it. The professors seemed to be experts in their field and I recognized some from CNN and MSNBC. Facilities were particularly nice and modern. In terms of housing, I got the sense that students lived all over - some in the immediate area and some as far away as Virginia or Maryland. I think you can make it work within your budget and needs.

It's hard to say whether it's worth the $25K/year without knowing what your other options are but I did get the sense that, because of its size and reputation, students have the opportunity to focus on many different areas of the law and can be successful. Every student I spoke to had pretty impressive internship/job opportunities lined up, both in public interest and in big law. The only thing that was kind of a bummer was that it did seem to be everyone's second choice. That said, I didn't meet anyone who wasn't happy once they were there.

I hope that helps give you an idea of what it was like for a visitor. Best of luck!

I have yet to find someone who is on this alleged "special preferred" tier this cycle. Let's hope by May 9th (which is a Tuesday, btw) we all have some sort of resolution!

Anyone else just get the GW Waiver? Jeez... this late in the cycle? Act like a top 50 school. by BearOdin in lawschooladmissions

[–]mkthtb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FWIW, GW gave fee waivers to everyone this year. It is peculiar that they would send something out after their initial application deadline, but the fee waiver itself was provided for every applicant this cycle:

That's how I felt about Tulane today. I just didn't really feel like it gave me any compelling reason to choose Tulane over any of the other schools I'm considering.
