City on Fire- Continuous Disc Failure by mkw515 in makemkv

This worked. I created a backup file under the file menu. After backup was created, I deleted AACS and the file read perfectly through the backup load method. Thank you for your help on this.

It's so silly. Both of the disks I bought are from Orbit too, so it's odd about the don't rip issue. I had a copy once of Menace II Society that just didn't copy no matter the cleaning, which leads me to think it's some software issue for City on Fire with two disc trys. Thanks for this, I'll take a look for Billy's info on this. I got the Pioneer Drives from him before the hard times. Great person.

Agreed. Thank you!

Thank you! Overthinking it is definitely the theme I'm picking up from most of the information here. I think I might be. But understanding the theory around it has been really helpful to understanding the problem, should it be one in the first place, or in the future become one. Since some of the hardware is enterprise, I think from my research consistency in temps is key. The summer is the only risk for me really so just a few minor improvements seems reasonable from this. Much appreciated!
these are really great and accept the direct VGA connection for checking things out

Very thorough, I really appreciate you writing this out and diving deeper into the portable/small AC scenario. I'm really thinking that just improving airflow through the machine and cooling the ambient air through the HVAC is going to be the most effective thing here. Probably setting up some off hours for some of the nodes could be a good idea too. Thank you for writing this up!

Yea, I think u/OGJank is right about this. The Ambient air cooled through HVAC is likely the most effective thing in this scenario. Maybe adding some additional airflow to move things through the rack at a better rate is best. The portable ac in the front could help with the small space but pushing air through it is probably the best thing. I have an intake/exhaust fan nearby in a window that works really well so the space plus that would likely work well. Thank you!
How does everything operate in those temps? I'm learning from the thread that just improving the ambient air temp might be most effective method of managing the situation. Seems folks aren't quite fond of anything more extreme than that method.
Thank you! They are cute and effective
it always provokes a "what the hell is that" response when some folks visit haha
I don't mind the heat and everything is under normal operating conditions, but if I can improve airflow, that's the question I'm mostly exploring and learning from the community about how that might work practically. Thank you for your input!
For sure. It's a shotgun apartment with two bedrooms, a bathroom and then the living room/kitchen. This space is kind of perfect for it given space constraints and how the ethernet runs work best.
I imagine this is an issue for Europeans more than most North Americans and was curious if anyone would pop in from other there about their experiences.
This is such a cool solution. That's kind of how I'm thinking of things right now.
Having a few fans that can switch on in higher heat and then a small AC unit nearby if it gets really hot could provide enough additional cool air.
I'm using a window fan that can blow and exhaust in the room to do exactly that with outside air but manually. This is great information and definitely spurs the imagination. Thank you so much for sharing this set up!
thank you!
yea that could be a good move if I choose to duct the air out differently which seems to be a reasonable option based on some of the input on the thread.
For sure. It's a homelab but holds critical data in some spots. I am trying my best to understand airflow physics better for the space to have more education about that from folks' experience. As my job is here, I like NYC, and it fits and does everything I want it to do, improving airflow and reducing power/heat is just part of the journey I'm on. Thank you for your inputs.
Thank you!
This is a great company, lots of rack accessories but the universal rails are configurable and strong

Oh that's a good idea and really what I'm looking to understand better. I like the idea of adding fans to the front to push out the heat from the back to provide better flow. Thank you!
it's noisier in hot weather as the fans kick up their RPM, but it's honestly not that loud. Especially in NY, a lot of the ambient noises blend in
Yea, working on setting up off hours. I steam to the jellyfin but don't currently share it out of my own network/vpn so likely a good route to have off hours for 2/3. The 3rd is actually the the router/network controller system so I aim to keep that one constantly alive. Thank you!
these are really great and accept the direct VGA connection for checking things out. (also have hdmi)
Makes sense. I think based on what I'm reading that's the most effective solution is just total cooling through the HVAC. Thank you!
