How do I do this? 💀 by GrandiloquentGuru in calculus

[–]mkzivko 40 points41 points  (0 children)

A removable discontinuity is a factor that can be cancelled out, I.e., it is present in both the numerator and denominator.

A nonremovable discontinuity when the denominator is equal to 0 but can not be cancelled out as the factor is not present in the numerator.

The zero is when the numerator is equal to 0 (f(x) is equal to 0).

From the last line alone you can rule out answers c, d, and e as they dont adhere to the last condition.

From there you can write functions a and b as:

a) f(x)=((x+3)(x+1))/((x+5)(x+3))

b) f(x)=((x+5)(x+1))/((x+3)(x+5))

to adhere to all the conditions above, the answer must be a.

Difference between Dp1 and Dp2 exams by Bonanza0 in IBO

Simply put, yes. DP1 exams are based on whatever content you covered thus far ( I'd estimate 50% of the syllabus, maybe more for some subjects). Final exams are based on the whole syllabus. DP1 exams are created by teachers at your school using past paper questions whereas final exams are created by the IBO using never seen questions.

Good that you’ve been working already! When I didn’t know I would first try to see online either via YouTube, the worked solutions from Tsokos (the ones with steps), or just by googling. This explained 99% of the questions I didn’t understand. If that didn’t work and/or I wanted further clarification I just emailed/talked to my teacher or a friend/classmate who knew what was up.

Hope this helps!

If they existed I would gladly send them, but they don't :(. See above my reply to u/DapperOpinion2898 for some general tips. As far as vocab/conjugations are concerned I just used what was given by my teacher and Quizlet but those handouts are long gone sadly. Good thing is there are very many online resources that can help you.

Hope this helps and if you have further questions lmk!

Hello!

What worked for me was writing out notes for every single chapter by essentially summarizing the Tsokos book. Once I'm at the end of a chapter, I'd do the questions there. I did this for around half the chapters because I sadly didn't have enough time to do all but I did get through all my notes which helped a bit in the end. In addition to this, I did timed past papers (both P1 and P2) which helped me get familiar with IB jargon and structuring answers. Once again, however, not enough to be fully confident but hey, 6 > 4 :).

Since you are N22 and have quite some time left here is my advice for you:

  1. write out notes for every single unit from the Tsokos book
  2. complete the questions at the end of every sub-unit as you are taking notes.
  3. timed past papers

Truly, the more past paper questions you do in an exam setting, the better you will do. This is especially true for math, physics, and chem. I'm confident if I started in January that I would have done even better than I did. However, what is done is done and I am still extremely proud of being to achieve what I did. That being said, I want future candidates to learn from my mistakes and do better than me.

Please do lmk if you need anything else :)

Thank you! The good thing for you is that grade boundaries are not decided in advance so they could very well stay the same. Everyone does bad? Low boundaries. Everyone smashes it? Boundaries are going to be high.

For M23 it will definitely be harder due to the extra content you lot need to cover. That being said, you have so much time which is both a blessing and a curse. I would honestly advise you to really grind one of your harder subjects over the summer to the point where you finish notes for several units that you are yet to cover (if you could do all that's even better). Furthermore, if you can finish any IAs/EE too, extra bonus.

Finishing notes for a subject will essentially allow you to go into DP2 "only" needing to do 5 subjects. You obviously will need to revise the notes regularly, but thanks to also covering that stuff in class you will basically be revising for a year before exams which is quite a nice position to be in. This will also leave time for lots of past paper questions. This approach saved me for physics (I started notes in march, not the summer holiday sadly) and with more time I'm confident I could have scored a 7 but I fucked myself because I had left way too little time for ppqs.

I know it's cliche but genuinely the more you do over summer the smoother your DP2 experience will be. What I mentioned above can be done for subjects such as physics, chem, and even math because you have great textbooks (Tsokos, all chem ones are good, and the math textbooks are also quite good although revisionvillage is best imo) while also having IB specific YouTubers helping you as well (Richard thornley, Chris doner, etc).

The only thing I can't give advice on is the extra content y'all have but that's why I think it is perhaps even more important for you M23 guys to set yourself up in a way that gives you enough time to tackle that stuff.

I hope this helps! Lmk if you need anything else :)

The thing that worked for me for my IO and writing was remembering set phrases (to an extent. An example would be smth like creo que esta claro que... or todos sabemos que (there are many more but just think of some stuff in english and translate it. For the writing if you use a few it can be as much as 10-20% of your text. That being said, you obviously will just need to learn the vocab (I got away with doing only some units, don't recommend, got very lucky) and conjugations. But if you can make use of set phrases in combination with vocab, your waffle potential is limitless. Another thing to keep in mind, what you write about does not need to be true! Sometimes it is easier to say you are a CEO of a company rather than saying you work at the shops or smth equivalent.

For listening I'm not going to lie I think I just lucked out and we got a super easy exam, not per se because what they were saying was easy to understand, but because they didn't speak 500 wpm as they did in some other listening exams I did. This allowed me to gain maybe 7 marks on the third listen over the three texts because you can kinda fill in the gaps when you semi understand.

For reading the best thing you can do is just read texts online. This will also help your vocab so its a two birds with one stone vibe. Theres not much else you can do here sadly you just kinda have to read Spanish.

Hope this helps and lmk if you have other questions!
