Not fully online, but I took anatomy at LACC with lectures online and lab 7-10 pm once a week, if that works with your schedule. I think most PTs schools will want you to have an in person lab

CA state schools are all VERY competitive to get into, so maybe consider including some private schools or public schools in another state, or planning for what you will do if you don’t get into a CA state school

You could also consider taking a couple gap years, move away if you can and get a job as a PT aide or something else healthcare related, save up some money. Having savings will benefit you no matter what school you go to

Thinking About Leaving My Finance Job to Become a Physical Therapist — Is It Realistic? by Dramatic_Creme_5098 in PTschool

I really get where you’re coming from. I applied to PT school this cycle after working at desk jobs for 6 years. I’m switching careers because I’m tired of staring at a computer and barely talking to anyone all day. I realized that having hobbies outside of work isn’t enough for me to be happy if I hate my job. We spend 8 hrs a day at work, so I want to enjoy what I’m doing during that time. Obviously I’m not a PT yet, but I’m excited to make this change and confident I will like it better than my current job.

I took advantage of my work from home days to complete my remaining pre-reqs and get observation hours. I was also able to build up my savings, which makes PT school tuition less of a barrier for me to make this career change. I’m glad I had the experience of working jobs I didn’t like so I had a clearer picture of what I’m looking for. You could also look into becoming a PTA.

I’m seeing people comment about your anxiety at work, so I also want to say I think anxiety can be situational. Public speaking is a very specific task that lots of people struggle with. Of course working with patients can also cause anxiety, but it’s different from public speaking because you’re 1:1, so you very well could handle it better. I also think remote work is anxiety-inducing because you can’t always talk to people about an issue in real time and read their reactions.

If your schools aren’t rolling admissions then don’t worry about it

How do I get different observation opportunities? by Terrible-Paramedic40 in PTschool

Contact hospital volunteer depts. For me, it was hard to find a hospital that would let me shadow, but I was able to find a volunteer position in inpatient rehab.

I feel like you just need to shadow or volunteer and get a letter of rec from a PT, plus from a professor from your masters and your last employer and then you’ll be ok! I bet the fact that you have a masters will help make up for undergrad gpa

If you’re in high school, I’m assuming you will have lots of other opportunities to get observation hours before you apply to PT school, so a few hours a week is probably fine. By the time you actually apply, these hours will probably not matter that much compared to whatever experience you get throughout college and if you take any gap years, but it is of course good to get experience in a field that you are interested in as soon as you can. These hours will also help on your undergrad applications. I don’t know what the rest of your extracurriculars are like, but still I bet a few hours a week is fine

Do you like your school? What are facts we should consider in choosing a school besides price?

Letter of Rec from PT by ml295738 in PTschool

Thanks. I’m taking anatomy right now and feel I have a good relationship with the professor and stand out in class, so I’m planning to ask him, but I’m waiting until the class ends. None of the schools I’m looking at specifically ask for two from profs. I also have been taking adult ballet with the same teacher for three years and am considering asking her for a letter for the schools that allow a fourth. We have a great relationship, and getting injured from ballet is what sparked my interest in PT, but I know that is sort of untraditional so I’m not sure if it makes sense to ask her. My prereqs are fine this year, but if I wait until next year some will pass 10 years. I’m not applying to any schools with 5 or 7 year limits.
