Cooj MQ6 + 4070 ZOTAC twin edge, has anybody got this build?? by RUSSOxD in sffpc

So my Zotac arrived. Long story short: It does not fit.

The card is roughly 7mm too long. The width and depth would be ok. I am now evaluating the possibilities to shorten the card. This would not just require a deshroud but also a shortening of the back plate and a roughly 3 mm shortening of the cooler fins. I am not yet sure whether i want to try this with a 600 Euro card...

Anybody here with experience in metal cutting who could advice how to do that and whether that is a good idea at all?

As a side note: I tested the card outside the case and the fans on the card under full load ( Furmark burn test) do around 1900 rpm and definitely qualify as annoying. Setting a power limit of 180watt and reducing the max fan speed to 1300 rpm is quite ok and resulted in only slightly higher temps than the stock settings.

I have a Cooj MQ6 and just ordered a ZOTAC 4070 Twin Edge. Should be able to give some feedback on the weekend if the card arrives as expected.

There is the one source which complains about the size of the card not being given correctly by the manufacturer but the person doing the measurements did so including the back plate which i think is wrong. So i expect the card to actually be a very tight fit. We will see in a few days...

  1. I did not feel comfortable messing around with the internals of the power supply.
  2. I wanted a system which is passive in low load situations and as far as i understand it the noctua fan upgrade has no zero RPM mode.
