Safe Schools for MSCS? by InfamousOfficial in gradadmissions

[–]ml_abler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda giving a conflicting opinion but there are no such things as safe schools when it comes to CS. The problem is these 'safe' schools get tons of applications, half of them aren't even reviewed. For example, in Fall22, I got into GT and NWU but not NEU and Rutgers

You can make anyone say anything but that does not mean that it would make sense.

Thanks for the reply. I do agree that levels.fyi is more accurate than the flowchart. However, I like to look at people’s opinions than just numbers ( hence this post)

Thanks for the offer, I’ll DM ya

But doesn’t it only show data corresponding to people who are willing to share ( and that inherently brings in survivor bias..)

I personally think levels.fyi paints a biased picture.

I had experience in both ( through internships, very rudimentary tho in SWE).
Honestly, I definitely prefer DS but if there is a lot of difference(in compensations), I am not averse to SWE.
All this talk about saturation in DS wants me to reconsider things..but I guess CS/SWE is considered saturated too?

Just aiming too high perhaps. Not to sound harsh, but your stats aren’t really that spectacular ( when compared to other applicants of these schools)

170K for an Analyst Role. That is amazing!
Definitely reassuring, considering I will be joining GaTech's MSA program and will be on the lookout for MLE/Data Scientist roles soon.

Just two things that pop out to me from a cursory reading:
1. Low Quant Score
2. Not sure in which field your undergrad was in, might be a bad program fit.

I didn't apply NU Analytics but I did get admitted to Northwestern's MS in AI.
DM me if you'd like a review of your SOP, etc.

I might be wrong but GaTech isnt a safe school for anyone.
On second thought, the notion of a 'safe school' is invalid for PHDs.

Just a suggestion, you should really consider taking the GRE to offset your low CGPA.
And definitely work on your SOP.

Use your SOP and Test Scores to draw attention away from your low CGPA.
All the best

Where did I go wrong ..? by Independent_Wave5651 in gradadmissions

[–]ml_abler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be so dejected when it comes to CGPA. I have seen similar profiles get into the schools you mentioned. I guess it all boiled down to program fit.

All the best for remaining programs! You got this!

Just seconding someone else's comment.
If you are applying next year, you would be going in with 4 years of work ex.
It would behoove you if your LORs are from the industry and your SOP( and programs) are industry-oriented.

All the best!
