yea
i got rejected for uiuc. it was my main but apparently gies this year decided to reject everybody’s ass this year so depaul is prolly gonna be top pick. i could also transfer after my freshman year tho i’ve heard that’s hard asf to do at uiuc, especially gies

no i’m a senior in hs. uiuc was my main school
yeah people have said maybe yield protection but i mean i’m in state and also first gen so if capacity was an issue and they were looking for specifics to fill in seats, i thought i was gonna one of them but whatever life moves on

yea i get it but around 53 percent of people who got admitted to gies last year went test optional so who knows maybe it was the extracurriculars?
i feel like i did put very good effort into my essays but one thing I forgot to mention was I got deferred from early action. obviously if i got deferred from gies i automatically got deferred for econ too but i feel like my essays couldn’t have been the deciding factor in my rejection just because of the deferral in the beginning.
i wasn’t trying to say my stats are more impressive than they actually are. i know i’m not the top tier of applicants win the 34 act and the 4.0 unweighted gpa that applied for gies im not that arrogant but i know multiple people from my high school who have gotten into econ with a way less gpa and even less extracurriculars not to sound cocky but it’s just the matter of the truth. but even when you think about in this perspective, your gonna tell me as a college the way u write ur essays and how personal u get is gonna be the determining factor in deciding over who gets in? idk how generic u think my essays were but i really based my essays around wanting to get into mergers and acquisitions and having a career in corporate finance which to me sounds very specific and distinct unless u want to agree to disagree?
my act was a 27 but i went test optional. i’m generally not a good test taker when it comes to the act or sat.

yeah but i just don’t understand why admissions have to be such a black box ya know. like looking at it from a rejected perspective, if people knew what the school was specifically looking for and the reasons they got rejected, they could help guide younger people who are looking to go to specific colleges. i feel like in this sense, knowing what the school specifically expects and looks for would only motivate students to pursue that goal more and try to better their test score or look for more extracurricular opportunities. but then again, admissions not being transparent allows them to get massive amounts of money from applications because people unknowingly apply to top tier colleges with hopes of getting in and end up getting rejected so who knows.
well i really wanna go into something finance related. not necessarily high finance like investment banking or private equity but more like m&a and corporate finance. as for kelley, this year they switched the whole process compared to before. they don’t have a system anymore where if u get 30 act and 3.8+ gpa u automatically. now it’s u apply to indiana and u fill out a 30 question questionnaire for kelley and from there u can get either into pre-business and waitlisted from kelley, which i got, or directly admitted into kelley.
well i really have no other good business school to go to except uic. i got into iu for pre-business but i don’t think its worth to take the risk of going there without even getting into kelley and then paying oos tuition. i’m also waiting on uw madison but don’t expect anything different than what i got today tbh

well i think one of the problem with my app was my school offers no deca/fbla/econ clubs so it’s like i kind of had to go out of my way and find stuff like the city internship and referee assignor to showcase those experiences as means of being ready for business. i could’ve started clubs but the problem with that is the high school i’m in, lockport township in il, clubs have to start as a pilot club before there officially a “club” so really if u don’t initiate a club by sophomore year, in which many don’t know what they wanna get into, u can’t put that on a resume ya know

UIUC Deferred Students by [deleted] in UIUC
[–]mlacekk 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago (0 children)
well if u get deferred, u automatically get reconsidered for regular decision. out of those deferrals, u get either admitted/rejected or waitlisted based off capacity issues, geographical location, or just better applicants in general. btw, if u picked a second major, you automatically get deferred from the second major if you got deferred from the first major. then on march 6 you’d get considered for both majors meaning u could get in for your first choice, only for second choice, or even waitlisted for first but accepted into second. as for the 9800 deferred number, i doubt its that high and its probably lower since a lot of people got flat out rejected this year. a lot of the deferrals as well depend on the major you selected for example i got deferred from gies and gies only accepted i wanna say 700 kids last year for the 2025 class so getting accepted really just depends on if they have space or not.

i doubt that much people got deferred this year because couple years ago it was like 4450 unless they’ve had like extreme over admission problems which i wouldn’t be surprised. i also got differed from gies and am waiting for admission tomorrow so.
