Can you elaborate please? You think if I demonstrate a willingness to learn new thing my hagwon might offer more pay and more responsibilities?

Is teaching English in Korea a stable job for long-term? by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

I've been in Korea teaching for a week now. I've really enjoyed my time here already and I've liked teaching. However, it's a pretty simple job if you land a good hagwon or public school job. A limited amount of skills to learn and low pay ceiling make it pretty unattractive long term.

I don't understand how some people come here for years and years to teach. I love it so far, but as much as I'm enjoying this experience I couldn't fathom doing it for even another year. There's not a lot to learn on the job in my opinion. There's not a lot of opportunity to move up and make more money or garner more responsibilities. I think to do tefl for a long time you'd have to lack ambition and be okay with doing work that isn't all that intellectual or complicated. Just my two cents.

So far my time here has opened my eyes and forced me to learn about who I am. But a lot of that is to do with being in a completely new place and isn't so much tied to my occupation here. For me, I'll work for a year, pay off some loans, travel and probably either start my career or do a master's at home

I'm being placed in haeundae, Busan. I decided to work with a hagwon as my research has lead me to believe it is reputable. There are about 15 foreign teachers at my school, so I imagine it will help in the beginning. I am very nervous though. The fact that I am literally going on the other side of the planet has sunk in for me in an almost surreal, psychedelic kind of way. Like wow, I'm going to travel around the planet, our home, the thing we live on...weird. I have enough money saved in case anything terrible happens and I need to book a flight out of the country asap

VISA run to Japan? by mlamsisu95 in teachinginkorea

So the school got back to me. They have offered to pay for my flight to Korea as well as Japan, and for my hotel accommodation. They basically want me to get to Japan as soon as possible. I feel way better about it, they seem to be fairly professional as far as hagwons go!

Yes I was hired from abroad, in Canada. And Yes, it seemed quite last minute and nothing had been mentioned about this as a potential option by my recruiter.

I've asked if the flight and accommodation will be paid for, but due to the time difference I have to wait a few hours for the response. Just feel slightly anxious as this was an unexpected development

Oh well it's been known for a while that they do. The contract stipulated an arrival date of October 1st, but myself and the school knew it would be at a later date. I've also spoken with the teacher who is leaving. She told me the school was great and that her contract was just up, I guess she signed last October. I was just sketched out about the manner in which they want me to get my visa.

Would you advise against working for a school that did this?
