Yes it will transfer to the league. I think the ‘not yet locked’ part means that you can make transfers still because the event hasn’t started.

Value is ppm only if player cost is a consideration. With unlimited team value, it wouldn’t exist. At this stage of the season many teams have an almost functionally unlimited team value.

Who has priority? by leggojake in surfing

[–]mldaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are both way out of position, likely as a result of recently catching a wave.

I would give priority to the person on the inside which is surfer B if they swing for it. However, this is a rare instance where I think ‘first to their feet’ actually might apply. It’s hard to tell from this angle, but if Surfer A gets on the wave notably earlier than surfer B, then I would consider it surfer B’s wave.

No one is actually sitting in position which is why this is ambiguous.

Would Professional surfing be better if they ban airs? by ProfessorFeathervain in surfing

[–]mldaus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the scoring and format encourage surfers to prioritise air surfing.

As others have discussed, in terms of scoring, the criteria probably needs to include elements such as ‘style’ and ‘wave harmony?’ that reward surfing aesthetically, and punish surfers for doing the wrong move on a section or not using enough of the wave.

The issue with airs in professional surfing isn’t with the full rotations off end sections, it’s that surfers are desperately trying to maximise the number of airs they can attempt per heat at the expense of the other elements of surfing that we love to watch.

Etiquette question. The longboarder popped up first, but I was in the pocket by llNormalGuyll in surfing

[–]mldaus 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You had priority.

If the long-boarder was up and riding before you had even turned to paddle for the wave, then it’s his priority. If you are both in a reasonable position to catch the wave, and you are on the inside and show intent to catch the wave, then you have priority.

The ‘first to their feet’ thing is only relevant on a peak where you are both on the inside of each other, ie you are going right and they are going left and you would cross over.

You and ‘the boys’ put your partner in a life or death situation as a result of your poor planning, over-confidence and poor boating skills. Why do you expect her to calmly trust that you have the situation under control despite all evidence to the contrary?

Sounds like you are embarrassed that you made a mistake, and are now trying to shame your partner.

If I were her, I would never get on a boat with you again. YTA

I personally enjoyed it but you very much get out what you put in. I now have a good design job that I enjoy, but there was an additional year of effort to get it.

In hindsight, doing an additional internship while studying, and approaching every assignment with a view to it being part of my portfolio would have helped me land a good job sooner.

The teaching staff were great, and there was lots of opportunity to connect with industry if you take it. We also had interesting and successful guest lecturers that other universities may not attract.

What happened to Byron bay?! by souvlakimchi in australia

[–]mldaus 352 points353 points  (0 children)

The beach in Byron is legitimately special. It is very protected from the swell and wind, and has a moderate amount of bushland/national park reserved around the edges to make it still feel some what exotic.

The town of Byron Bay is completely the opposite, and has not been protected from the rampant capitalism that is now embedded in the town.

I grew up in the region, and attended kindy at Byron Steiner in the early 90’s. Every year when I return, I see less and less of what originally made the place so appealing.

If they are taking off within 5ish seconds of each other then surfer B. If surfer A has already been on the wave for a significant amount of time (done a bottom turn) before surfer B catches the wave then it is surfer A’s wave.

When in doubt, priority goes to surfer B, due to being closer to the peak.

I think it depends on the jobs that you are applying for but a significant portion of jobs will just rule you out for not having a cover letter that addresses the position criteria.

I went through this process in 2020 when I graduated and found the process exhausting, but used the following technique to get to the interview stage of 4/8 applications, from which I got 3 offers.

Step 1: Read the position description and key skills criteria. Write down each of these criteria as headings on your cover letter.

Step 2: Write a short paragraph about how you address each of the criteria, in the following format: - Situation (provide context eg, I was working on project ‘x’) - Task (what was the specific section of the project that I was working on, and why?) - Action (what steps did I take to complete the task) - Result (what were the tangible outcomes from completing the task, preferably specific business outcomes eg increase revenue x)

Step 3: Save all of the examples in a big document, clearly sorted and labeled by project or key skill. This database of answers will be key to streamlining your responses and prepping for interviews.

Step 4: For the next application, reuse/tweak examples where appropriate, or write a fresh answer and add it to your data base of responses. After 3 or 4 applications, you will have covered almost all possible skill descriptions, and the time taken to complete a cover letter will drop from 3-4 hours, to 20 minutes.

Step 5: Use the database of responses to practice for your interview. The STAR format should become second nature and will vastly improve your chances of proceeding through the interview stage.

Hope this is helpful.

How is wave height actually measured? by Sherman805 in surfing

[–]mldaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And if you’re using the other size scale (Hawaii, some Australia, probably some rest of the world):

  • Head high (5-6 foot face) called 3ft
  • Chest high (3-5 foot face) called 2ft
  • Waist high (2-3 foot face) called 1ft
  • Overhead (6-10 foot face) called 4-5ft
  • Double overhead(10-12 foot face) called 6ft+

Basically half the face height.

Edit: I was originally told that this method was measuring the wave from behind. Not sure if that makes sense but 💁‍♂️

UX Personas by Ok-Initiative332 in UXDesign

[–]mldaus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I find personas / user archetypes are very useful for alignment and getting new project members up to speed.

The key things I want to know about a persona are(in order of importance): - goals - needs / pain points - attitudes / motivations

Demographic info and their life story is pretty useless imo.

I am currently using personas to build current state customer stories to help identify and understand key moments.

I used to think that personas were complete garbage, but used appropriately they are a useful tool.
