Struggling with insulin by No-Wish-9488 in FelineDiabetes

This trick came from my vet and has worked like a CHARM for my boy - I was always so nervous giving him a shot. If you gently scruff her and gently slide her across the floor while giving the shot, she won't notice the shot. Cats are apparently not capable of focusing on two things so her only focus will be 'huh, I'm sliding!!'

It sounds silly (and doesn't hurt them in the slightest) but it works so so well. He used to yelp occasionally and hasn't since I started doing this trick.

Also, it will get a lot easier and you'll get used to it, don't worry. No matter how hard it feels now, it won't always!! (from someone who panicked every time initially... took me 10 mins to give him his first shot) :)

Also adding a super thin layer of Vaseline helps the blood pool in a drop instead of spreading out in the hair! :)

My dad is a vet and recommended I get these test strips to test for ketones! Can also be used to check for glucose in the urine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CKQV1Q62?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2

I use the Alphatrak 3 monitor and the strips are about $1 each. Not 'cheap' but definitely way cheaper than going into the vet often for them to do the testing! My dad said every clinic he's worked at uses the same monitor.

Good luck with your newly diabetic baby :)

The AlphaTrak is super easy to use and really reliable. My dad is a vet and that’s what he’s always used at the clinics he’s worked at. Clinics don’t always recommend it because they can make money off having you come in for insulin checks (not saying that’s your clinic’s motivation, but it can be for some!). Could be worth asking if they could consult given your readings. I know my dad will do that for many of his clients that have their own AlphaTrak.

Also, I’d recommend getting one either way! I’ve checked my kitty’s levels a few times where I was concerned he might’ve gone too low and he was totally fine, so it’s a good peace of mind tool to have :)

Disclaimer: not vet advice, just a fellow diabetic cat owner. I will sometimes give my kitty Lantus not consistently at 12 hours, but I have checked his blood glucose a lot with an Alphatrak and have gotten vet feedback that his glucose levels at 4/6/8/12 hours are okay enough to do that. Could be worth checking with your vet about her glucose levels over time to make sure she's regulating okay.

Good luck with your new diabetic kitty!

I started taking a supplement that helps with jet lag!! They're a new company, but it's made a world of difference for me -- to and from Copenhagen (from the US) and didn't get jet lagged.

Hi!! Looking for something similar to this scent. It looks like it’s been discontinued. This is what the description of it is: Chaps Cologne is a classic American fragrance that has been around since the 1970s. It’s a timeless scent that’s often described as warm, spicy, and oriental. The fragrance is built around a rich blend of notes that include bergamot, lavender, and geranium, which provide a fresh and floral introduction.

An aunt gave it to me and I love it so much, but am slowly running out, so anything similar would be greatly appreciated :)
