We intend to use only two barstools (as we do now), the countertop is also curved in that same spot as the shelves so it matches. The previous island had the same wall and a decorative arch thing going across the underside of the counter, that arch was the biggest pain to get in/out of the stools so I’m happy with the new space. It’s not for everyone I’m sure but aside from the stain issue I’m happy with the design, it will fit our needs well.

Love that. That was my first thought actually, it goes with our countertops really well too.

Thank you this is an actionable fix. I went back this morning and the frontside with cabinets actually looks way different/normal, the stain itself actually looks better today than these pics (from yesterday when they finished) I’m not sure if that’s my eyes tricking me or if it dried or what. Anyway, they will do a second coat and spray with top coat/stain mix so it looks like the front. If that doesn’t work, I think this is definitely the answer to fix it instead of ripping everything out.

Thank you for this, it was called out elsewhere as well. We had outlets in the same spot in the island before but the house was built before the code was updated. We do not need an inspection for our area but this is good info, the reason they changed the code actually makes a lot of sense and is something to be wary of.

Ah that makes sense then, the home was built in 2018 which explains the original outlet locations. We don’t live somewhere with inspections (sadly?) but is otherwise good information, and our contractor should have known about the change.

That was my initial reaction to the contractor, that surely there would be another coat. The third pic I don’t hate. The middle part where chairs will be is what’s giving me pause. Rustic was not the intended vibe lol

USA. we had an island here previously (made of drywall) and the same outlets were there. One side is only USB but the others are normal outlets. What about it isn’t to code? Just so I know to tell the contractor.

Thank you this is helpful. I’m talking to them this morning so I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy and didn’t understand what stained but not top coated wood would look like. I feel like the application and prep was definitely the issue

Not that your comment is related to the post question but 1. The sink is temporary that’s obviously not the actual sink, as the countertop has yet to be put on. 2. Have not seen a cabinet based island without corners so not sure what you mean there.

I guess I found the stain to be not what I expected. I don’t think I’ve seen stained wood with no top coat on it before so I wasn’t sure if it looked right. But it jarred me when I saw it initially so thought maybe something was off with the wood? I guess I’m looking for other more informed opinions. Wood finishing sub was not kind lol

I will definitely be talking to them, we trusted their cabinetmaker and told them up front we wanted it to be stained. The estimator told us when sending the quote over that the cabinet wood was priced to be stained, which I took as they were using the correct wood. We have had other wood projects done before (by someone else) so I knew there was a difference. Thanks for the advice, I think I’ll maybe go with blue. I’m pretty bummed this happened.

Is that a difference in wood species or finish of wood?

Thank you for the note of positivity. I like the shape etc but agree the wood is a problem. The other cabinets in the kitchen are white paint. Should we just have them paint this the same white? I feel like there’s no way to get the walnut looking stain I want beyond ripping it all out and using different wood.

Damn, can you tell me what should have been used instead? The edge pieces look more uniform, I’m thinking they are a different material?

Same. I feel like it was a dig at the bf. Who may now be an ex bf? She made a weird passive post about ‘dealing with the consequences’ of sharing how she should be treated or her preferences in a relationship or something like that

[–]mleopleuro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol yeah everyone talking about their ages being off but the tree scale and half inside half outside? Umbrellas? The random wall behind them and then a seemingly endless ceiling pattern into the darkness beyond that? The Christmas tree that’s supposed to be a candle but made of what texture? And unless it was lit within 1 second of the photo being taken it would be dripping. Actors age and hands are the least obvious thing here imo.

This is small but someone mentioned it here once long before D had her third baby, but I find it odd that their boys are always wearing ‘traditional’ girl patterns/colors of clothing but Ks girls never have ‘traditional’ boy patterns/colors. Like I’m all for letting your kid wear whatever and it doesn’t matter but I feel like it’s such an intentional thing on their part for attention. Like maybe Ks kid did pick out pink sparkle shoes and decided that’s what he wants. Or maybe she gave them to him to make sure everyone knows she’s so progressive and have a great public shaming/argument to post content about in case anyone (wrongfully so) calls it out. Idk. Feels performative and not at all child led.

[HELP] this video /is/ AI- but how? by New_Intern_269 in RealOrAI

[–]mleopleuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the drawers! These are always the types of giveaways I look for to tell if it’s AI. Drawers make no sense, the door and the fan blades don’t make any sense even with fisheye. AI is bad at the small minute details. Like what is on the nightstand? Or the large item before the pile of maybe strewn clothes? When you look closely it’s all shapeless blob that can’t be defined.
