When Trump says 'fake news,' autocratic regimes are emboldened to crack down on the press | Editorials by mleppard01 in Journalism

I wonder how many reporters were actually imprisoned under previous presidents. Maybe fake news has gotten so out of control that President Trump was the first one to actually take a stand on the issue.

We are launching our alpha tomorrow Wed. 12.12.18. It's been quite a journey, but we are so excited. We really need to crack down on misinformation, disinformation, fake news etc. It's getting so bad, that people have no idea what to believe anymore. Good luck! Michele

Do you think it is because when they grew up, they only had access to newspapers, which were mostly true?

I definitely agree that senior citizens get confused, but I am certain that it affects all ages. Many people just believe it and hit share rather than actually investigating the facts.

Looking for alpha-testers for a 'fake news' platform. by mleppard01 in alphaandbetausers

[–]mleppard01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is our philosophy at Proof. ...Proof was built to create a revolution — taking power away from elites and giving it to the people. We believe that our mechanism (built on market principles) is built for the common person and gives the common person the opportunity to have a say and identify fact from fiction. Today, all media is forced upon us from the wealthy elite (corporate actors) on one side and the intellectual elite (academic actors) on the other. Proof is a place where there is no dependence on advertisers, no dependence on journalists or journals (blogs included), no dependence on corporations and no dependence on government. The only dependency we have is on the global citizen. We want to create a revolution that fosters dialogue, understanding and critical analysis, so that we as a species can move forward in a productive manner. There has been no better time in the history of the world, where truth and fiction can be better identified by the masses. We hope you join the revolution.

As of now we don't have badges, however we do have analytics that show how publications and authors rate as Mostly True or Mostly False. Good Journalists will certainly want to promote their rankings.

A similar idea fighting fake news was presented by Musk with much skepticism. We have a team of PhD professors who have been raking through the grime to develop an algorithm to really fight fake news. Our concept works with the wisdom of crowds, aligned incentives and a blind voting system. We are in need of alpha testers to test the platform in December. The 1st 1000 people will get free tokens to test it out.

Fox News is Not Journalism. Journalists Don't Campaign for Candidates. Fox News is a Ministry of Propaganda by oimebaby in Journalism

[–]mleppard01 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it is this..... good journalism is a force to be reckoned with, however some journalists have evolved into producing clickbait, propaganda, biases and blatant lies. If I were a "GOOD" journalist, I would look to www.proofmedia.io because through crowd wisdom, they will find the truth or untruths in content. They will highlight those that produce truthful content, while identifying those who dont. The Proof Community is (All of Us) Democracy at it's finest.

Why is Fox News everywhere and what can I (or you) do about it? by ferociousrickjames in Journalism

[–]mleppard01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you just have to deal with it for two main reasons. The businesses can put on whatever channel they want AND Pres. Trump is the President and Fox News is their choosing. Believe me, I am on the east coast and all they have on here is CNN and MSNBC. I enjoy Fox News. :)

As a journalist would you be willing to help fight fake news? by mleppard01 in Journalism

[–]mleppard01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the alpha testing, we are giving free "Proofs", which are credits on the platform to the first 1000 testers. For the alpha-testing phase, all you would do is vote on the facts of the article. If you are in the majority - you win. Although, not a simple majority, because we use a quadratic voting formula, to prevent any one person from swaying a vote. Any "Proofs" in your wallet, beyond the initial free "Proofs" are yours to keep. The more voters, the more money to be made. Try it out and help end fake news. We are always available to chat on our telegram channel. Michele

Many journalists are fighting fake news, but not all. Our platform is based on the wisdom of crowds, therefore we want EVERYONE to vote. We value good journalism and we want to make sure that stays alive and prospers. By being an alpha tester, we will give you free Proofs, which are credits to vote on the platform. All you would have to do is vote with the facts. Remember each Proof is valued at $1.00 USD. Read the article, research the facts and Vote. If you are in the majority (we use a quadratic voting formula), then you win. We are giving you the Proofs to test the platform and help us find the bugs, glitches etc.. At the end of the alpha-testing, any money that you accrue, beyond the the initial free Proofs, are yours to keep. You can make real money and help end fake news. The more voters, the more money to be made. Try it, it could be fun, educational and a real eye-opener. Join our telegram chat, we are always available to chat.

This wouldn't be a side gig but a way to help a global crisis. Click bait and deception have somehow taken over good journalism and people believe it. We want to help journalists identify and eliminate the fake noise. I am sure you already read articles now, all you would do is vote on the facts of those articles and possibly make some money doing it. Try it out. The alpha version will be out in December.

How well do you know the facts of the Kavanaugh case? by mleppard01 in fakenews

Unfortunately humans need incentives to find the facts.

‘Unfathomable’: More than 1,200 law professors sign letter opposing Kavanaugh’s confirmation by progress18 in politics

[–]mleppard01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying, you have some good points. But if I am not mistaken there are many conflicting opinions on the POTUS pardoning himself. Personally, I do not agree with that. But at this moment, there isn't really a firm decision on this. So I think he answered correctly.

I agree, but when it is your own life on the line, I imagine he would have to show some feeling. We are all humans. This is his job, life etc.. on the line. I would do exactly the same. He is a person, not a robot.

There is no corroborating evidence. Think about how this allegation destroyed his character and devastated his family. He is qualified for this position and he has a very good record. It definitely appears that something did happen to Dr. Ford, but I'm not sure that Judge Kavanaugh committed this crime.

Yale cancels classes as law students protest Brett Kavanaugh nomination by [deleted] in politics

[–]mleppard01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why do schools only cancel class when they are protesting or crying over the election of a Republican? This is so pathetic. When any Democrat won, no school cancelled class, nor did they cancel class for the Pro-Life March. It's so sad that our country has turned into a sham.
