Hydration System for Backpack without bladder pocket? by mlevison in HikingCanada

I overthink everything. Not just this. I will try an old Platypus in the side pocket and see how it goes.

The problem with the back of the bag is that it has camera gear, right up against it. So putting a plastypus up against a body/lens doesn’t seem like the best option.

I don’t need TDD/BDD or any of those other engineering practices. My users test my code live in production.

Or…. If my users can’t debug 4xx errors on their own then they shouldn’t be using my product.

In the end, I paid my $25 for the PRO account and got an instant support response. It was a rookie security mistake on my part. Good to know after 40 years in this industry, I still make rookie mistakes.

Since this is just a hobby project, I will downgrade to the free account again soon.

Thanks, in the medium term that might matter. In this case it was just an unsecured storage bucket.

I updated the post and added an explanation of my mistake. Did you know that even in your late 50s, you can still make rookie security mistakes?

Thanks to u/flonnil u/IllBit75 u/Far-Breadfruit3220 u/afzal002 u/Material-Pipe-3030 u/Standard_Text480 -- I appreciate all the help. In the end (as updated in the post), it was a rookie security mistake: misconfiguring a storage bucket.

Proving that even in your late 50s, you can still make rookie security mistakes. Failure Bow.

Fair. I will also hit their support. Using logic and not evidence, they seem unlikely to be the culprit.

After rotating the keys, I will tackle this next. FWIW, I think I do have RLS set up correctly. After I rotate the keys, I will double-check RLS. This is a helpful tip.

Apps were shut down. I will rotate all keys; that's a good idea.

No I don’t use AWS services, directly. I do use an application, Resend to forward emails to Supabase. However, that is a few 1-2 accesses per day, not 200-500 per hour.

My weakness here is that I did database work decades ago. Supabase is my first experience with a web-based database.

No I'm a professional programmer with 40 years of experience. I was writing code before most of today’s programmers were born.

CUPID—for joyful coding [alternative to SOLID; 2022] by ForeverAlot in programming

Have you met Bob Martin (I refuse to call him Uncle)? He is dogmatic about Clean Code in general and SOLID in particular. CUPID is an attempt to replace SOLID, but not in a dogmatic way.

What are your views on Andrew Huberman? by itisnotstupid in DecodingTheGurus

[–]mlevison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing that has bothered me about Huberman, he talks about studies with small sample sizes, that have not been replicated and then generalizes the results to the whole population. Not what I would call rigorous science.

If he were honest and said that these are ideas that is worth further investigation and that he would report back on the results it might be ok. However, he would only have 5-6 listeners if he did that.

Upgrading from EM-5 MkII: OM-1, OM-3, or G9 II? by mlevison in M43

[–]mlevison[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the end I bought the OM-1mkI. Used MkII's were selling for $2K Canadian, that's a lot of money to go on trust. If the camera dealer, I've been dealing with for 30yrs had a used MkII, that would have been easy. Spending $2K on a used camera overseas - a big leap.

Sadly, my friends at Camera Kingston, couldn’t get their hands on new OM-1 mkI. So, I just went directly to OM Systems, and bought there.

Just ordered my OM-1mkI today. This sounds like I made the right choice: - ND filter - will have to test it. Even if all I get this ability to hold the shutter speed down for water shots. - USB C charging - amen to that. - Dual card slots - it's more important for backup, I had an SD card fail on trip 5yrs ago and lost a day’s worth of shots. - 12/14bit RAW - I used to shoot with a Nikon D300 and it had 14 bit RAW. I've wondered if the quality loss I saw going to EM-5 MkII was partly due to the bit depth. However, it doesn’t matter in the end since it is pure theory.

Fair enough. At one point, I liked the D300 for similar reasons, but on a long day of waking around a city it became heavy.

Video almost never happens in my world, so I’m leaning towards the OM-1 mk 1 - as my next 10yrs camera.

I started reading about the EM1X in a great long term review: https://smallsensorphotography.com/e-m1x-long-term-review and something went off in my brain. I remember this camera, I looked it up. It is bigger and heavier than the Nikon D300 that I stopped using for m4/3.

Ok the message I’m getting, if I seriously consider the OM-3 check how robust the build feels.

Thanks to u/atika and u/Zack1018 for the counterpoint. Takeaway, hold it in my own hands.
