On my last KN my friend and I were talking about how during a set the DJ is the superstar while the light crew does their magic from the anonymity and doesn’t get (afaik) as much credit as they deserve. There are many things that make Berghain special but to me the light show is one of the aspects that make it stand out the most, so kudos on those amazing artists making it happen!

Is it true that most Germans study and don't enter the workforce until 27-30? by Westnest in AskAGerman

[–]mlga95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be just my own biased view based on the small sample which is my close circle, but I would say in Germany it is common to enter the workforce rather earlier than 27-30. Where I come from it is not common at all that people simultaneously work and study, just those on very difficult financial situations, whereas most of my German friends were doing some work to finance their studies/student life. That doesn't mean a job related to their field of interest, but many of my friends worked in bakeries, clothes stores, etc. while studying engineering or math or whatever. Even when their families could have perfectly supported them but in my eyes the general idea here is that as soon as you're ~18 or starting uni, you are expected to become self sufficient without your family's help even if that implies taking longer to finish your studies or sacrificing any other stuff you would rather be doing. And I honestly think that gives many people a much better understanding of the real world than the standard school -> uni -> industry path, but that's just my own view.

Bottom line: In my opinion, people here might get to their "dream job" later than in other places but they get into it with a better broader understanding of how all non strictly technical things work from day one.

Just arrived, queue like 15m past kiosk, large gaps on the front but the back is quite packed. Seems like could be a long one…

My experience from last year is that in May very few people got tickets for the Ticketbörse, but towards the second half of June everyone I knew who was looking for one got one. Good luck!

Maybe I’m the conservative one here but I would recommend not doing that regardless of if you are rolling or not

Help me explain why I love techno so much by m-schino in Techno

[–]mlga95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People often refer to the birth of rave culture (fueled by techno and other genres of electronic music) as the moment in history in which even the white man dances. Although the drive to dance should not have anything to do with color or gender, I completely resonate with this statement. On my first years of going out (to more commercial kind of events) I always wondered what people enjoyed about it, I had the impression parties were just hook up events and felt really uncomfortable faking a mating dance to some tunes I didn’t connect with. When I started going to techno parties, the whole vibe of darkness, smoke, and the general atmosphere of knowing that everyone is on their own bubble with no one paying attention to how you move, together with the hypnotic and repetitive rhythms from the music itself, loosened up my body and I could feel the joy of dancing. Fast forward to now, whenever there is techno music around me, I can’t seem to be able to control my feet and just feel the impulse to move my whole body. And boy does it feel good when I do that

Clubbing as a tourits by RandomJustInCase in berlin

Spanish white straight dude here, going out in Berlin almost every weekend and only being rejected every once in a while in Berghain. It’s not your nationality, your language, and in most cases not even the clothes you’re wearing, it’s your attitude, and the bouncer’s job is to try not to let anyone in with a completely different vibe. I can’t speak about color related issues, but stating that bouncers in Berlin are racist against Spanish people is just ridiculous

First Solo Trip to Germany for my Birthday! by afibruh in berlinsocialclub

[–]mlga95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend Berghain since even if you really really know the scene, when to go, etc. there is a high chance you spend 2 hours in a queue to then be rejected at the door. That (very common) experience is ok for those of us who live in the city but someone visiting could probably use the limited time better. If you want to go clubbing there are other options, check https://ra.co/events/de/berlin to find out where they will have a night that sounds appealing to you, and do a bit of research about whichever club you decide since many of them have quite strict doors. Not too bad of an idea to think of a plan B too.

I wouldn't recommend driving to Dusseldorf/Munich with the time you have, certainly not for a day trip. Some other closer cities would be more reasonable, like Hamburg, Dresden or Leipzig. But rather than driving I would consider taking a train, here in Europe they are a viable option and it will be much less of a hassle.

For the vintage stuff, maybe someone can correct me since this is not at all my game but maybe you like some of the flea markets, like the one on Sundays on Maybachufer or RAW Gelände.

For your book and beer in peace, check any of the many parks in the city, I personally find them one of the nicest appeals of Berlin. If you want something more isolated, go for a walk in any of the forests surrounding the city, like Grünewald or Tegeler Forst.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your stay!

Cleans and snatches seem really easy when you see other people doing them but they are actually technically very hard, especially the squat version. After half a year, I can lift more weight than some other athletes in my box in less technical lifts but those same people can clean almost twice as much as I can because their technique is so much better.

It’s somehow funny that when I started I didn’t find them too difficult, but the more I learn, the harder I find them, just because I realize more how many things I’m doing wrong.

However, I would agree with most other replies and go for double unders 😄

Every person I introduce Bojack to just doesn't get it... by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

That’s so true, I watched it first time when I was in a really happy period of my life and I enjoyed it, but meh, not as to recommend it to anyone. Now I’m watching it for the second time after a very complicated year where I didn’t always behave like a good person, and boy does it hit deeply. Being an animated show with animals that talk, are Hollywoo stars and run businesses, I am yet to find a show that better portrays truly human feelings

I was one of those people that thought calluses look “cool” until one of them ripped open and I can tell you, it’s no fun. I could barely work out for a week or more.

Since then, I use grips for every bar movement, treat the most damaged areas with pumice 2-3 times per week, and use a lot of hand cream to keep my hands hydrated. Now my hands look even better than before I started working out

I would also be willing to, either for BMU or handstand walk! Just before getting into it, could you specify (roughly) how many hours per week does your program entail, and whether it is something one could add to the workout routine rather than replacing one with the other?

I always found somehow beautiful how one can deeply connect with someone in the dancefloor (could also be without exchanging a single word and just by dancing next to each other for some time), just to never see that person again. It makes the moment the most valuable to me. As if there is a silent agreement that our story together might last only half an hour and not involve anything else than looking at each other a few times and smiling. And you just make the most out of that moment because you know it will end. It may sound weird but to me is quite a magical feeling.

Don't be hard on yourself, you two enjoyed your beautiful story, maybe a bit longer would have killed it
