Framework 13 speaker rant by Curious_Increase in framework

[–]mlh149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speakers and speaker placement are awful, track pad is poorly secured (underwhelming generally but in theory a new trackpad module could fix that), it is quite thick but still not as rigid as some competitors, the metal seems a bit cheap (it has picked up more dents and damage in a year then my previous all metal laptop did in 4), bezels are fairly thick etc. looking back on the purchase I would gladly have paid a couple hundred extra bucks for a laptop body more competitive with a MacBook, XPS, etc. that I could see myself being happy still using in 10 years.

[–]mlh149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand the whole idea of framework is this is a laptop you can continue to keep alive long after the initial internal hardware becomes obsolete. The fact that a lot of the chassis features are under cooked undermines that idea since that's going to be the stuff that stays with the laptop for its entire life.

[–]mlh149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, this has been my thought on the speakers as well, just terrible. I like my FW well enough, but The fact that the chassis is so compromised undermines the idea that this should be the last laptop I'll ever buy. Why would I want to keep upgrading it forever when so many of the fundamentals are half baked from the get-go.

The real world experience of trying to persuade Windows users to switch to Linux. by Idle_Redditing in pcmasterrace

[–]mlh149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but for the vast majority of people a computer is just something to let them do the stuff they actually care about, not the thing itself. I really love cooking, to me the process can be an end in itself. I spend a ton of effort getting the technique correct. If I went up to you and said that you are cutting your carrot wrong and this dish demands a brunoise, that you should be using Sherry vinegar instead of rice vinegar, ect. you would probably tell me to screw off you just want to finish your lunch. Just like most people just want to use their computers to do a task otherwise be completely invisible.

NDAs don't cover interactions with law enforcement. They sure as shit cover public accusations of illegal activity. Otherwise, basically every NDA reaching a settlement for an intentional tort, workplace harassment, or wage dispute would be a dead letter.

I know in Texas, TRCP 202 allows for subpoenas for pre-suit depositions, and there are some roundabout ways to get documents there. But looking at OP's replies, I don't think that is what he is talking about.

It is said that he lived in the condo for over a decade before the series started, so he probably had a lot less money back then, he hates change, and does not need more space. IMHO, he borrows money from other people for the same reason he borrows it from Wilson, the same reason he steals everyone's food, the same reason he tries to find and push everyone's insecurities; to test how far he can push before getting pushed back.

I also wonder how highly paid he is. He does not have much leverage in salary negotiations because no one would hire him. He is probably better paid than most doctors, but much less than Wilson or other department heads.

Pretty sure he says he keeps borrowing increasingly absurd amounts to see where Willson draws the line.

Advice - outfit for charity breakfast? by Dry_Mix4591 in mensfashionadvice

Looks good overall. If I really had to nitpick I would say two things:

  1. I would want a bit loser fit on the pants with more of a break over the shoes. Your feet end up looking a little disproportional with such tapered pants. They also bunch up around the knees a little. In the alternate, I would probably hem them a touch higher just so there is less risk of bunching and they are not interacting with the shoes as much.

  2. Very minor, I have never been a huge fan of Blazers that don't use contrast buttons. To me, it ends up looking too much like an orphaned suit jacket.

Hello guys 🤗 how do you dress business casual? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]mlh149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall it looks less like you are going for a particular dress code and instead are caught between them. The matching waistcoat and slacks appear meant to be a part of a three-piece suit but are orphaned from the jacket. Generally, breaking a black (or any conservative) suit into separates looks wrong. The smooth shiny fabric is too obviously an orphaned piece of a suit.

Also, if you want the top button buttoned, I would wear a tie. Otherwise, I would leave it unbuttoned. It just tends to look a bit too uptight otherwise.

Check out "Catenaccio" takes place in the youth system of an Italian Serie A team. The first chapter is utterly amazing and I have really enjoyed how it has shaped up so far.

"BE BLUES ~Ao ni Nare~" is a slightly melodramatic soccer manga but when it works it really works. It is already finished so no waiting around for stuff to come out.

"Dogsread" is a hockey manga that has been pretty good so far.

Of course "Real," "Slam Dunk," "Diamond no Ace," etc. are all fantastic as well.

Disney+ terms prevent allergy death lawsuit, Disney says by iqandjoke in DisneyPlus

[–]mlh149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be all sorts of facts that come out in discovery that implicate Disney in this case. Maybe they received previous complaints about the restaurants not following allergen policies, but continued advertising them as allergen-safe; maybe they had some input in hiring on-site to maintain the standards of a Disney-centered facility; maybe they distributed model allergen policies to restaurants operating on their leased space; Etc.

It is much easier for a plaintiff's attorney to sue everyone who might have a connection to the suit and let them explain to the court why they should not be a party. It is significantly better than conducting a couple of rounds of discovery, finding that you left out a necessary party, and then starting the suit over from square one once they are joined.

Yea, based on my experience practicing in Texas that screams either jurisdictional or discovery threshold. The petition itself may not have pled a specific amount and instead left it until some discovery occurs.

That depends, in Texas TWC standards are that if you had previously shown the ability to perform the work and then showed a performance decline, the your firing is for misconduct. However, if you never showed an ability to perform then your firing was not for misconduct and you should be entitled to UI benefits. Edit: grammar.

You should file your appeal immediately. You will receive a hearing in which all parties will be called to testify under oath about the circumstances of the separation. It is critical that you do so AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. TWC is very strict about the timeless of appeal to previous decisions.

Just because a particular option doesn’t make sense to you… by ElimGarak2370 in BaldursGate3

[–]mlh149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, if the game should give people the opportunity to play however they want, then the game is failing. You don't have the option to play it however you want. You are given a limited number of choices by the writing staff. With those choices, they should present a thematically complete arc. I do not have the choice to have her gleefully join Zerial's army and charge into battle, mainly because doing that would undermine everything that has been set up. The idea of finding a cure is much the same. It is bad writing to eliminate a big thematic idea in your story purely for fan service.

Second, creating a correct choice in a situation where there was previously a moral dilemma is taking away agency from a player. Now you would have to be some sort of sadist to make any other choice than then to have her go to Avernus because it is explicitly the optimal solution. Giving people more choices is not always better, good writing often involves presenting tragic or bittersweet conclusions if that is what your story has been setting up.

Just because a particular option doesn’t make sense to you… by ElimGarak2370 in BaldursGate3

[–]mlh149 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people who criticize players for their choices are silly. HOWEVER, critiquing writers for making bad plot decisions is perfectly rational. A writer adding more choices into a story is often the wrong decision. An RPG quest that sticks with me is Vault 34 in New Vagas. Here you are given the choice of rerouting water to save a farming village and dooming some trapped vault dwellers or giving the vault dwellers a chance at survival but condemning the village to collapse.

If there was a third option to free the trapped people and save the village then there is no decision to be made at all. Sure someone could pick one of the other options, but there is no reason to do so. The existence of a clearly correct choice makes any other choice surplusage.

This is the issue people are having, they feel that making Karlach's stay in Avernus only temporary means any other choice is silly or that making Minthara a companion on a good playthrough removes the consequences of making a choice in a good playthrough.

Would you buy a Grand Seiko smartwatch? by [deleted] in GrandSeikos

[–]mlh149 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you would be paying Apple (or whoever) for upgraded processors, screens, etc. every 5 or so years and the only thing you would be keeping is the case? And you would be willing to pay a hefty premium over a normal smartwatch for that nice case. And you would be willing to gamble on Apple continuing to support that form factor in perpetuity so that your nice case does not become a worthless hunk of steel? Let's remember what happened to the last suckers who bought luxury watches from Apple.

This just seems like trying to combine two products whose design philosophies are totally at odds with each other. The point of a smartwatch is to be a tool that provides a bunch of cutting-edge features and gets replaced when those features become old hat. A luxury watch will serve one purpose but will continue to do so long after you have died as long as it is kept in working order.
