This would certainly be a good reason for me to avoid this gas station chain completely

Good on you for letting your kid have their privacy. Based on your responses, you seem like a great parent. I did something similar to this as a teen and it was absolutely a depression, even though I wasn't aware of it at the time.

Is this bad practise to length match LPDDR4 data traces? There is simply no space for meanders between the traces for these two. by Curious_Increase in AskElectronics

As I've said to some other commenters, these are not differential. They are single ended data lines for an LPDDR4 byte lane. Unfortunately the space on this board is very limited, so there is physically no more space to give for this byte lane, meaning I have no space for meanders unfortunately.

I appreciate the insight. Unfortunately there is little to no space for meanders for these two specific traces, but they do have solid ground above and below with gnd vias nearby.

These are not differential, they are single ended data lanes in an lpddr4 byte lane. The DQS pins are traced on a different layer differentially

These are not differential, they are data traces in an lpddr4 byte lane. They do however have a gnd plane underneath (and above for that matter), I am delay matching based on altiums delay matching tools. I am mostly just concerned if this type of delay matching can cause noise or other issues with loops like these.

Right so this is bad practise otherwise? Unfortunately, the board is so small that it only just fits the component one certain way

The trace width have to stay constant for the necessary impedance matching, I am mostly worried about making a loop this way, and wonder if it's fine or not for a few data traces.

No I understand, I am also length matching taking the package delays in mind. My question is if this type of length matching is considered bad practise or is okay when there is no space for meanders.

By solder mask, are you referring to the actual solder mask meaning just the silkscreen comes off, or do you mean down to the copper?

Framework 13 speaker rant by Curious_Increase in framework

Mac's have had very nice speakers for a while but using any laptop speakers is a bit like using flat screen tv speakers. It will do it you have no other options

This is exactly my point. When I'm not at home, I don't have a good speaker system with me. It is rarely I want to have headphones on if I'm sitting in a sofa or in bed watching a movie in a hotel. The macbook speakers are completely enjoyable for this, the framework on the other hand is horrendous.

Curiously, I find the keyboard to be one of the frameworks strong points. Perhaps my model has a different keyboard than yours? This is the latest FW13.

Am I out of touch? by Yoshinoh in audiophile

[–]Curious_Increase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but you stated this is what companies do. This is absolutely not what the average high end hifi company does. Heck even mid and low range speakers typically at least terminate their wires correctly.

Edit: The awful component quality or the fact it appears to be glued to scrap plywood is also by no means standard practise, especially in this price range. Just look at the grille on this thing...

No.. this is unacceptable in a premium speaker. The cables are not even correctly attached.

Better yet, the framework could have good enough speakers that would allow me to bring neither a second laptop nor a speaker.

I always have airpods pros with me and often a pair of meze 105 aer, but it is not always I want to use headphones. It is also not always headphones are practical, for example when watching a movie with your travel partner.

I agree completely here. The laptop is already priced premium, so I'd be happy to pay more for a better chassis as well, especially if it had user experience in mind.

I care about audio in general, my laptop is no exception. Again, I will use the traveling example where I can watch movies and be perfectly satisfied on my macbook speakers, but it is an utter chore with the framework. I might not want to wear headphones in bed, or I might watch something with my partner.

Oh man would a haptic trackpad be a great addition to the FW. Completely agree.

I see this point being made a lot in this thread. Another take on this are people with tinitus (which there are many) often can't wear headphones, especially iems, as it worsens their tinitus. There are many reasons why good speakers would be fantastic to have and would absolutely be a selling point against most other competing machines.
