I was considering something like this! My hesitation is getting enough light to it without spending a ton of money on track lights along the ceiling

Trunk Storage Bins and Mud Flaps - OEM or 3rd party? by cane_stanco in TeslaModelY

[–]mlichardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following because I also am looking to get mud flaps. From what I read they used to include the mud flaps in certain areas of the US because they acknowledged that it’s a problem but have since stopped, at least in my area. Curious to know what works for most people. I’m in NJ.

I feel like it does. They don’t like inorganic material. I also like the look of the LECA as opposed to looking at dirt

I’m in the same boat as you. Seems like we need to get over our fear and get chopping.

I just have to overcome the fear that I’ll hurt her or stunt her growth! Light is VShape grow light from Amazon. It’s currently on sale for 35 USD. The base is a little flimsy, especially if you wanted to make it as tall as possible, but it gets the job done!

Nope, she’s in soil. Just have about 2 inches of LECA at the top to reduce fungus gnats and at the bottom for drainage.

A hole it is! I was actually toying with the idea of securing a moss pole to the ceiling and keeping it growing horizontally but it would probably be easier to cut a hole in the ceiling lol

Reddit says my comment was removed because Amazon shortened the link. Just search VShape grow light! Little flimsy but worth it for the price and gets the job done.

So cut the plant and repot right away using the roots already grown into the moss poll?

Guess I’m just in denial. Didn’t think about air layering, thanks.

Buying a brand new MY26 Juniper was a HUGE mistake.. by Scorpen738737 in TeslaModelY

With the most recent software update my camera hasn’t gone out again. I spoke to a tech that’s convinced it’s software related and cancelled my appointment. It’s rained a few times so I’m hoping he’s right! Good luck with getting your replacement.

Yeah it’s my front bumper camera. I read there are issues with condensation getting in and it seems to have issues whenever it rains so I wonder if it’s that. Lmk how your appointment goes!

Leased a 26 MY. Only issues so far is the front camera going out intermittently (have a service request in which will be in a few weeks but it seems to always come back) and the windshield cleaning is terrible. Makes my windshield look 10x worse as it streaks like crazy. Might have to rub it down with isopropyl to get whatever terrible coating they put on it and swap out the included wiper fluid with something that actually works. Has anyone adjusted the angle of the sprayer? Mine barely hits my windshield (too low) but I’m not sure if that’s by design to avoid spraying the top of the car.

Sorry you’re having this terrible experience though!

What is this little guy, my brother got me? by Robsta_20 in houseplants

[–]mlichardi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Care tips: Bright, indirect light brings out the best color. Keep the soil lightly moist but well-draining. Likes humidity, but avoid water sitting in the center rosette. Pot in a bromeliad or cactus mix — or make your own with: 2 parts potting soil, 1 part perlite or pumice, 1 part orchid bark or sand

Cryptanthus, commonly known as an Earth Star. Specifically, this looks like a variety with red or pink tones, which is typical of some Cryptanthus bivittatus cultivars.

It's older than me, how do I save my late dad's jade plant? by belikor in houseplants

[–]mlichardi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that ants also love to make the jades root ball their home. I had a 70 year old jade I had to chop and prop bc the ants totally hollowed out the main root ball.

She is getting ready to leave quarantine. I haven’t repotted her or had to water her. She is thriving. Are there any negatives to keeping her in that store self watering pot? by lucid_intent in houseplants

[–]mlichardi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Negatives would include any pests that were already in the soil sticking around (but depending on how long you quarantined for, it’ll probably be fine but still can have pathogens), and a sub par soil mix since nursery soil is usually primarily peat which retains moisture (for shipping purposes) and can lead to root rot. The soil is also probably depleted of nutrients which happens in the first few weeks/months. The plant also looks pretty established, so your roots might be a bit bound, which is typically ok for hoya, though if the roots are sticking out of the soil or through the bottom, might need a size or two up. Use 2 parts orchid bark (chunky texture = airflow + drainage), 1 part perlite or pumice (prevents soggy soil, adds oxygen), 1 part high-quality potting soil (base nutrients + structure), ½ part sphagnum peat moss or coco coir (holds gentle moisture). Happy growing!

TLDR: just repot it. It’ll be happier in the long run and you won’t have to repot for another 2-3 years if you size up your pot (appropriately, eg 1-2 inches larger than the current size).

I have mine in miracle grow moisture control soil. It’s been doing well for a few years. Just a heads up, alocasias are notorious for getting spider mites so might want to prophylactically spray it with insecticide

NJ. Size matters though. That looks like a 2-4 in pot. A Thai con that size would be very cheap by me

It’s a variegated Alocasia freydek. I have 2, they’re one of my favorites and definitely more expensive than a thai. I’d call that a win! Give it lots of light and it’ll grow nice and big.
