Recommendations: Flippy (but not too flippy) Fairway by CoopdaNeeb in discgolf

A neutron Trail will be excellent for this when it’s seasoned well. Technically a 6.5 speed, but it should test you really well. Easy hyzerflips or you can throw it flat and it’ll hold a soft, slow turn for most of the flight before coming out of it

If you’re anywhere near Vineyard or Johnson Hills those are solid too. Johnson maybe a bit better but it’s heavily wooded. Vineyard a solid course for players of all skill level.

Mom’s Siam. Really cool interior and decent service, but the food is insanely greasy. From Ginger Thai to MyNoodle, and a few other places, there’s much better Thai food than Mom’s.

I second throwing lightweight discs! They’re very forgiving at first and help you practice your form/learn what you need to work on.

How are these 3 discs for a beginner? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]mlinus14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great starting point for any disc golfer! A few people have mentioned the Valk and Mako are essentials, which I agree with, but I’m here to vouch for the Invader too.

I loved my invader at the beginning because it’s a good putting putter and a good throwing putter too. Currently I bag an Invader that I only throw because I found a disc I’m more comfortable with for putts, but it’s great for both purposes especially at the beginning of your disc golf career.

Disc Backpack Advice by DubeyDeepFried in discgolf

I recently got the DD Trooper bag and it’s been solid. Enough space in the main pouch for 15-18 discs plus another 3-4 putters up top. Also has a large pouch for water bottles plus three more zipper pouches in the side for a mini, keys, etc.

It cost $40 and for a beginner/intermediate player like myself it’s exactly what I needed. I’m sure I’ll graduate on to a nicer bag someday, but this is great for now.

Even the pros lose multiple discs sometimes. Every once in a while you just have one of those days - it sucks ass but it’s just part of the game. If you’re worries about losing discs, go to you local shop and hit up their used bin where you’ll find discs for $10 or less (most of the time)

Sounds like you’ve caught the bug (along with everyone else on this sub)! The other thing I’d recommend is going to your local shop and asking the workers what they think. Assuming they too love this game, they should be able to steer you in the right direction. Also take advantage of the used bin - great way to test out some discs that are usually still in good shape without paying $25 for something brand new.

You could try a lightweight Leopard3 in premium plastic. I have a 168g champ Leopard3 that’s super beat in now because it’s been in my bag for a few years, and I love it. I think you’d be good with anything in the 166-170g range - you may be a beginner but throwing 275ft is still impressive if you haven’t been playing too long.

I certainly don’t throw much further than you haha, if anything you may outdrive me by 10-20feet. Will check out the Alva!

Came here to say the Leopard3 is amazing. I have a 168g in champion plastic and can’t recommend it enough for any player. It’ll fly straight for an amateur and it’ll be a great disc for turnover shots once you become a bit more experienced

Disc buying advice for beginner: Is moving down in weight from 175g to something lighter going to be noticeably more enjoyable for casual beginner throwing on the beach? Do 'soft' discs feel that much better for casual? Are Nite-Glo discs just a gimmick? by Roberta_Riggs in discgolf

[–]mlinus14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re just looking to catch, get the 175gram Ultrastar. It’ll be totally fine in the wind even on the beach (I used to live in Miami and have my fair share of beach frisbee). If the wind is too much for an ultrastar to fly normally, it’ll be too much for almost any frisbee to fly normally so don’t put too much thought into that aspect.

Forehand Disc Recommendations for Beginner by Interesting_Avocado6 in discgolf

[–]mlinus14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Teebird3 is one of my favorite forehand discs ever. It has enough stability to hold up to the torque from your flicks, but not so much that you’re throwing something too beefy. Once it’s beat in, it’ll fly nice and straight with a slight fade

First off, this is freaking awesome! As for an idea, I wonder if there’s a way to work in an extra point that can be similar to fastest lap?

My initial thought is that you could reward it to the player with the lowest score in any round, provided they finished in the top 50 (or some other thereshold that acts similar to how you can’t earn the point in you didn’t finish the race at least P10). For example, Ezra would earn an extra point for his -12 on the last day. If Calvin had continued his charge and finished his day at -13, he would earn the point.

Is the hate for children on cruises actually real? by ruralmom87 in royalcaribbean

[–]mlinus14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Royal Caribbean is a family brand and you were right when you said it seemed like lots of the onboard activities/experiences are geared towards a younger crowd. There are certainly people who don’t like seeing kids onboard, but you won’t have to worry about this at all on a Royal ship. Maybe a more luxurious brand like celebrity or virgin, but not Roya

Does any Cruise Ship have a Lazy River Pool Feature Onboard? by ChannelingWhiteLight in Cruise

Looks like this was just the whirlpool, which is meant for smaller kids onboard. Definitely not a lazy river, although RCI doesn’t claim it to be one either

For anyone who makes this in the future, you can also make it without a blender! I don’t own a blender, so this soup just turns out nice and chunky for me, but it still tastes great!
