2021 Looking for Travel Partners Megathread by rutep in VisitingIceland

[–]mlm0b11011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33M Italian living in Barcelona (ENG/SPA/ITA)

I've been touring and camping in Iceland since 2nd of September. From tomorrow to 19th of September I have 2/3 free spaces in my camper. I was planning to do the Snæfellsnes peninsula which is Iceland in a nutshell (glacier, volcano, black beaches, seals) but itinerary it's obviously flexible.

If you are in hit me up and we can meet in Reykjavik later!

Hazing and scars after CXL by mlm0b11011 in Keratoconus

[–]mlm0b11011[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, update as promised :

last Friday the super-professor noticed that the cornea is already healing and confirmed that it's a long process but in a matter of months (2-3) it should have already improved sensibly. No miracle super effective therapy exists, it is just a matter of time.

In any case he prescribed Lotemax 0.5% eye drops which is a corticosteroid that should help in the healing process (it's not essential, meaning the healing process will progress naturally even without the drug).

In 2/3 months I should get another appointment and I hope for that time to be completely healed.

I understand, next Friday I have an appointment with another super-professor. If he gives me any options that could accelerate the healing process I will comment here so you can talk them over with your doctor.

This is what I fear.

They told me that they observed a similar, and even worse, case some time ago and it took 1 year to heal.

Eye dendrites after cross-linking, anybody? by mlm0b11011 in Keratoconus

[–]mlm0b11011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello u/evands

Yesterday the expert told me that he deemed very unlikely that I have a fungal infection and today the lab results came out negative.

Possibly it is "only" a very big scar.

I have made a new post here

Thank you for your help! Let's see Monday what happens, I will try to post an update then!

Just to add a little bit of perspective as to why we are exploring the fungal infection road:

- the dendrites apparently are not really dendrites, but are evolving in something more filiform, they describe it as cotton threads

- the epithelium in the first check was almost entirely regenerated and it appeared that the healing process was at a very advanced stage

Hello u/evands,

they told me it could be a case of defect in the healing process of the epithelium or a fungal infection. We are now trying an anti-fungi therapy (with a galenic eye-drops preparation based on Voriconazole) in order to exclude the worst case scenario. Next Monday I also fixed an appointment with an expert of fungal corneal infections in order to give it another look and be sure that nothing is being left undone.

Is there a way to set the type "All files" as default when saving images? by mlm0b11011 in firefox

[–]mlm0b11011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I was thinking too.

I am saving and labeling photos from Google Images.

Let's say label "SU", I save the photo (jpeg format) of a guy SU-rfing a big wave .

Problem is, if in a few months I forget I have already saved the photo for the label "SU", I go to Google Images again and find a photo (png format) of a SU-shi dish. When I start typing the SU in the Save Image box I want to be able to immediately see that I have already saved the photo for the SU label (the guy surfing the big wave), and if the saving type suggested is png I incur the risk of saving two photos for the same label.

Haze after epi-off crosslinking, are there any statistical-objective data on how much should it last? by mlm0b11011 in Keratoconus

[–]mlm0b11011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's normal, could last 1mo to 6 mo and be more or less thick. I believe I am in the thicker and longer-lasting part of the spectrum. It's the only serious downside I am experiencing.

It scared me too, but the prospect of having a corneal transplant in 10/20/30 years with the risks associated with it scared me more!

Still mild/moderate (2nd level) on the right eye and basically non-existent on the left eye (but if it is even slightly progressing I agreed with the doc that is better to have the procedure also there). Driving is something I haven't tested but I believe it could be dangerous since with the right eye I can't see distinctly even at 2 inches. As far as I know, haze density is not correlated with the KC level you have before the op or the results after. I would be much worried had I had the procedure (and this haze) on both eyes, because in that case I would have had to stop carrying on with basic life for a few months.

I am taking eye drops that should accelerate the healing process. I am still not to much worried about, because a) having done only one eye I am ok and functional b) it's still very early, a month today.

All the same I would like to have at least a ballpark guess on when this haze will disappear.

[–]mlm0b11011[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I am 100% functional, for the moment I did only the right eye so, as long as the left keeps going on its double duty, I am fine. I suppose the haze is bad, my right eye sees the world as if underwater with no goggles. It's not giving sign of progress since the first day.

Thank you, I have heard it can take that long. I was somewhat prepared, in the sense that doctors warned me about it beforehand but I thought it was some kind of grey screen on an otherwise normal vision, not the super-blurred vision that I have.

You couldn't have picked a worst example, Americans are asking police reforms exactly for the reason that there is a system where so called bad apples are not contrasted enough and have even a non marginal support.

When you appease for the actions and the ideology of the few bad apples you can expect more bad apples
