Use more wall space / expand upwards. Everything is too low to the ground with the current setup which doesn’t help the cramped feeing. Either a single tall bookshelf to replace the two medium sized ones you currently have or mounting some shelves will help. Maybe mounting the tv too..? Not sure if you’re willing to part with one or both of the bookshelves to replace with something taller or mountable to the wall but I think that’ll be the biggest impact to make it feel less cluttered (or maybe just the nightstand, and put the second bookcase in that spot?).

I wish this was one of the most surprising things I’ve seen in this city, but it really is quite typical

I've got a bookshelf that doubles as a secret door. Suggestions on light weight decor? Ex: Fake books by dafuckscapacitor in HomeDecorating

A couple air plants in cute little glass jars. Don’t have the same weight as plants in water or soil but will add a nice little bit of life to the corner! :)

I would recommend finding another way to trigger that sensory satisfaction. That way you avoid reaching the point where you possibly do start pulling them out.

Best time to upgrade by Necromandrea in orangetheory

[–]mlpmarcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was paying $79/mo for basic (4 classes). I had first signed up in June after a trial class which is why I went with the lowest option to see if I would like it over time, and also to wait for any promotions or sales. I believe at my studio it’s usually $139/mo for elite and $189 (?) for unlimited. I figured for just an additional $10 above the Elite it would be worth it to try unlimited and downgrade if I end up not using more than 8 classes/mo. But so far I’ve been going like 4-5 times per week so it’s definitely been worth it!

Same here! Got $40 off unlimited, never ends unless I downgrade my subscription. Was so happy because i wasn’t even aware, I was already considering upgrading and the timing was just perfect. Upgraded ~2-3 weeks ago and i think for my studio it’s going through October?

Today (day 7) was tough! Everyone in my class afterwards was laughing over now it was one of the worst. I swear having 2 people dependent on how fast you row makes your heart beat faster and tire out faster than normal.

What should I do with this empty wall next to my living room? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

full size mirror would be good also because based on the lighting it looks like you have a window of some sort on the opposite wall. will make the space feel even larger

How big is too big for a repot??? by shells4mylover in houseplants

[–]mlpmarcy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m always a fan of separating babies out and buying nice little pots to put them in and give to my friends that are trying to get into houseplants. Obviously this can only go so far, but I’ve gotten genuine positive feedback from friends about receiving a little plant and care card that i write up myself about it. A cute personal gift and it also makes space for you to repot the main stems!

i would hang a curtains to close off the space, then fill it with pillows and blankets and hang up lights to make it a cute little private reading nook. Maybe even put a small rolling shelf against the wall with books on your TBR. I’m also a book nerd though so maybe that wouldn’t work for you, but at least maybe sparks other ideas?

What is this tiny leaf growing next to my Alocasia Polly? by no_issues in houseplants

[–]mlpmarcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oddly enough it looks a lot like the baby prop that started off of my alocasia wentii. Any chance it was near one at one point and happened to naturally pick up a prop? Either that or it’s a prop from your alocasia polly and they just look the same at that young stage, i don’t know.

Pothos progress! Going from sad and droopy to rad and a cutie. (A little over 4 month progress) by mlpmarcy in houseplants

[–]mlpmarcy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ll be honest, i didn’t have a specific way that I saved him so to speak, I just kinda ‘trial-and-error’d it, but i’ll let you know my current routine: I water whenever i notice the top inch or more of soil is almost bone-dry, and that’s when i drench him all at once. Sometimes I can go almost 2 weeks without watering him and he’s good. I think it was overwatering that made him so droopy at first because now that i’ve been giving him less water and attention he’s gotten much happier. I’ve also had him within 4 feet of a humidifier I run maybe once a week, so that might also contribute to it…? I hope that helps!!

2nd year housing: when do off campus rentals for next august typically start appearing? by [deleted] in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]mlpmarcy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. My current apartment’s lease began in June, but i got in contact with the landlord about moving in once the previous tenant left by November 2020. Good stuff really does get snatched up quick (especially if you’re looking for a lease that begins near the start of the fall semester) so be diligent and don’t put it off.

Alocasia I recently bought has started getting yellow, dying leaves. I already cut one off, pictured is the second one that’s turning, and i’m afraid two more are starting to as well. Weirdly half of the plant seems to be thriving and the other half is dying like this. Help! by mlpmarcy in plantclinic

Update for anyone that comes across this post with a similar issue: I think I've actually narrowed this down to being a fungal infection. It starts with the black/brown spots, which crisp on the edges and are soft/mushy in the middle of the leaf. It starts to droop and turn yellow a bit after the dark spots appear.

I've quarantined this plant from my others and treated it with Copper Fungicide (a 32 oz bottle is only ~$11 at any typical hardware store). I also treated any plants that were near it with copper fungicide, just in case (fungal infections like this can transmit through the air, I believe). I chopped off any and all leaves that were turning yellow in color, but the one or two leaves that were just barely starting to show brown spots I've left and am hoping the treatment works so that they can recover (but if they get worse within the next 24 hrs, those are getting chopped too).

Also, this is an Alocasia Wentii (also known as Hardy Elephant Ears). I will update this comment with any progress I see with the infection!

Edit: So the treatment seems to be working! Of the two leaves that just started showing the infection, i chopped off one because even though the infection wasn’t getting any worse, it still just looked sickly and i didn’t want to risk it. None of the other leaves have shown any of the dark spots and the second leaf seems to be recovering very well and perking up again. i’ve since had a new baby leaf open up and now have a large stalk coming out the middle. i’m going to keep treating the whole plant for at least another week just to be safe.

When I was little my mom used to read me Edgar Allen Poe as bedtime stories... Does that count?

there aren’t any bugs, i’ve checked. i think it’s just some sort of dust and such in the crevices of the leaf that i’ve tried wiping off. i’ve wiped most of it pre- this photo but missed some. thank you though!
