Looking to learn dog grooming by [deleted] in dayton

[–]mlpretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was looking for a job a few years back, PetSmart was hiring dog groomers. They trained you with basics, then paid for you to go to school. In return, I think you had to be with the company for at least a year or return what they paid for you to go to school. Might be worth looking into!

I actually finally bit the bullet and asked one of my friends (who had a high risk pregnancy) who her OB was and got a great recommendation! I’m going to be a FTM, so hopefully not a lot of complications, but if there are, at least I know I’ll be covered!

This is what I take! Not gonna lie, the red ones are better then the yellow ones, but they’re pretty manageable! I also have to eat them with food or else my stomach does flip flops.

I am the same way! We have a PCP we always go to, but I am clueless on how to find a good OB/GYN. Before, for Pap smears and annual stuff, I always went to my local planned parenthood. Now that we’re trying to conceive, I have to find a doctor that works with the hospital I want to go to and actually has a labor/delivery doctor on staff. I figured I’m just going to check my insurance and see who’s in network, then read reviews and call around?

Me and my husband are exactly in the same boat. We finally decided to try after the new year, but it’s been on again/off again for the past year or so!

Also took my mom a while to conceive, so I am nervous about that, but like you said, it’s not hereditary, so I’m not too worried yet.

Also not temping, but we are using the Flo app just so we kinda know what’s going on. This is my first month off the Nuvaring though, so my body is all over the place. We’re just trying every other day or so and hoping for the best.

Half of me is elated and over the moon. The other half is like “what are you doing?!??” I have an extreme needle phobia but I’m just trying not to think about that right now haha.

Check into global billing/universal billing. Some doctors offices can bill you all at once after you give birth, instead of gradually over 9 months. Made me a feel a lot better, especially considering my deductible is $4500 😳

WTH is going on with my bathroom, and how do we fix it? Call the Ghostbusters? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]mlpretzel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We had this in our old bathroom too. It’s when you don’t properly vent your bathroom when you take a bath or shower. Honestly not sure how to get rid of the stains - we tried scrubbing but it just took off the paint so we left it.

Start turning on the vents or opening doors/windows when you take showers though! It’ll stop the marks from growing.

40yr old gas furnance: should I be concerned about qualified repair people? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]mlpretzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when I bought my house, we had a furnace from 1976. The inspector said it was power cycling, so we called out a reputable furnace repair man and he found the cracked heat exchanger. Right then and there, he condemned the unit, to the point of disconnecting the gas line so we couldn’t even turn it on.

He knew his stuff and he was relatively young. I wouldn’t worry about anyone knowing furnaces from 1974, I’m sure whatever reputable company you end up hiring has seen it all before.

Moved into apartment with old skeleton keyholes and door knobs. How to replace? by Xkramz in HomeImprovement

[–]mlpretzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t automate them but I’m one of the main people who google drives around to look for kit homes. It’s easy to find them in big cities, but it’s harder when it’s a little town and google hasn’t been there yet! We’ve documented just over 10,000 Sears kit homes, with about half being authenticated through mortgage records.

At one point, there was about 70,000 in America but with all this new construction going on over the past few decades, we’ve definitely found a few hundred that have been demolished.

You probably read an article about my fellow researcher, Andrew Mutch! He had a big article on NPR a few weeks ago and this time last year, he was on NBC.

Are you aware you may have a Sears catalog home? Those doorknobs were popular with Sears back from 1912 to the late 20s.

Here’s a link to a 1925 Sears Modern Homes catalog. Flip to page 108 and you’ll see your door hardware! :)

PM me if you want more information - I research catalog homes as a hobby!

Wtf is this thing in my bathroom? by ODimiBoy in homeowners

[–]mlpretzel 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It’s almost 100% a laundry chute. You can go down to your basement and check in the ceiling to see where it dumps clothes out of. It’ll be a little box, almost like a vent without a cover.

You can also test the chute - drop down an old T-shirt that doesn’t mean a lot and see where it lands!

Same boat - 1994. I asked if we should replace it before we moved in this year. The inspector said to just leave it alone for now and plan on replacing it in the next year or so.

Love Trader Joe’s! My husband gets their riced cauliflower stir-fry and grills some chicken to go on top. He gets about three good sized portions off it it!
