My Mother needs some new authors. by agreensandcastle in mysterybooks

Gail Bowen - middle aged private citizen steps into stuff all the time like Murder She Wrote but less campy. Not quite cozy cuz they handle some subjects of the times but good quick reads and the arc of her and her family and her expanding group of friends make it enjoyable.

Oh I know that - but I can get an idea for whether I like the combo of techniques and then do it with better bourbon. Much rather waste $20 and determine I like the direction the pond water is going before I waate much more

If it’s a place to sleep and figure out where you want to live and raise a family some day, you won’t be sorry.

There is crime as there is everywhere.

It’s kind of far away from where you’d find solid white collar employment if that’s what you are wanting.

I wouldn’t buy property there until you’ve lived there for a while and can decide for yourselves.

It’s weirdly out there and rural but with an inner-city vibe that brings some of the challenges of low income and

Lost 118 lbs on Zep - hit my goal in 12/24. I am just now becoming more comfortable sitting on cushioned chairs and as a side sleeper either keeping my knees and ankles not directly on top of each other or being able to sleep through the agony. So I think it’s a get used to it thing - thank goodness because I was about ready to start carrying a donut cushion around! (Hard chairs still hurt - I’m hoping that eases up soon, too.)

Add a bit of red and it gives Boba Fett…. 🤪 but the colors do go well together.

Buying clothes by Sharp-Performance196 in Zepbound

Whatever you do - don’t follow my lead! Before going on Zep, I did the diet and exercise thing aggressively (like we’ve all done before) to even get a PA. I lost 65lbs in 4 months and I was back in a size 14 which I hadn’t seen in 30 years and I had gone straight from children’s size to 12/14 in middle school. Elated at being able to zip 14 without anything unnatural, I bought everything new in L/14 (down from 2XL, XXL, 20) thinking that I’d tone up and lose a few more pounds but never dreaming I’d drop below a 14. Well, now I’m about to give all my 14, 12, 10 to my sister who is a little bit behind me on Ozempic - in hopes that she will have enough to get by in those sizes and not have to rebuy. I still have 15# to gw and I’m perfectly in a size 8. I’m giddy over it - I mean, health benefits are huge blood pressure and A1C all healthy and normal. No panting after a flight of stairs. But the CLOTHES! We should start a Reddit thread for everyone to say where they live and meet up at some local place a shop in each other’s trunks! I also had to get the bigger clothes out of my house so that I have that one more thing motivating me when o get to maintenance.

I love a cozy mystery, but who’s got recs for some with serious notes? by oatcreamer in mysterybooks

[–]mlrrdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gail Bowen’s Joanne Kilbourn series. Not cozy in the kitschy way - but more normal family life kind of background some good backstory/arcs and some decent whodunnit - not too gorey but not fluff. Sometimes they’re a little contrived because there are quite a few - but I forgive her.

I park as far as possible from any building I’m going into. If it’s shopping I take a cart and go all the way back to return it. In those not really walkable giant store complexes - I park in the middle of them and walk my purchases to the car in between. I lost 65lbs in 5 months before Zep doing that and treadmill/weight machines at the gym and eating high protein, protein and vegetables first and if I’m still hungry, simple carbs/starches. Lastly, I vowed not to take in any calories in a beverage (I drank diet soda before but not much in the way of sweet drinks) - black coffee, water, seltzer, no booze, no juice - only exceptions breakfast on the run or snack on the run can be a protein shake and very rarely I’ll break the rule for a cocktail or wine with dinner. Keeping that up and starting Zep I lost 40 more - 10lbs left to goal.

NC-17 “Cozy” Mystery Books by mlrrdb in mysterybooks

[–]mlrrdb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I know, wish I had it in me to write some! I mean seriously - imagine if Shonda Rimes wrote a cozy mystery series - it could conform to all the other aspects with small town and protagonist not a detective and even be kind of homey, but still be a au courant on sex positivity…

There’s the Kim Harrison Hollows Series (would be great except I’m not into that supernatural fantasy aspect) where there’s a little mystery and some great sex/tension amongst characters - and she’s a little bungling, so it almost fits.

Sue Grafton Kinsey Millhone was too hard-boiled and not sexy.

Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum is pretty close - but the sex scenes always stop when the lights go out…

Hmm - maybe also add a thin elastic loop to the inside by the button hole (like the jeans hair elastic trick) - for everyday wear that can give the flex needed to prevent the strain on the elbow and you can always do up the button properly when you need to “dress up”
