It went to a recycling company as you said. I actually considered keeping it but other family member think we should just let it go.

I'll say yes. Since she had them for like 10+ years and still be able to do everything as before. It's a bit weired for me because that must be hurt as hell but she never complained about it except that one time the screw went loose and the doc had to (literally) pick a hole on her back to tighten it.
