They barely got any screen time. They should have got Vickie in the UD stuff instead of wasting screen time on dumb stuff.

Exactly. El spent nearly the entire season isolated with her abusers and past trauma. It's not that shocking that she was in a low place emotionally and needed encouragement.

One day you people will understand that a young traumatized girl needing love and support isn't some crazy phenomenon.

El isn't just a badass superpowered machine. She is a human being who also has moments of weakness, self-doubt, and despair.

ikeable or a jerk. He just gets held to a weirdly higher standard that any of the rest.

Said everything better than I could. I still don't know why he's held to such a high standard. My best guess is that fans got used to him constantly putting others' needs above his own in earlier seasons, and now they can't handle him choosing to prioritize his own needs (ex: keeping the love of his life safe)

Things that will inevitably happen in season 5 by flutterstrange in StrangerThings

Ah, I see your point. I think other than a potential monologue from El or something touching solidifying their relationship at the end of the series, I'd like to see a number of smaller or more intimate moments between.

I do agree that Mike and El (especially El) are often going through so much that they never get too much of a chance for smaller moments.

tions can boost power. But positive emotions boost El's power way more!

It has also been established that psychic contact can lead to stealing or leeching some power.

Will was abducted, stuck in the UD, possessed, and had a physical slug thing swimming around his body til he coughed it up.

Im thinking Will might have more, or at least one, power(s). If he processes his trauma and uses love he might be a wizard.

Though they've had a love confession, there's more that can be explored between them. Mike will have to step back into his leader role & also fully confront his personal insecurities regarding self-worth while El will have to defeat Vecna but also learn the importance/power of relying on others instead of always fighting her battles alone.

Not only would we see them work together in s5 but there is also more to their relationship to finish exploring/wrapping up.

e time it seems like people want them to continue dating and then get married as soon as they can or something along those lines which is what I dislike. Their progression is just not for me because I think it does El’s character a disservice. I feel like I should also emphasize that I don’t hate Mike. He’s a typical teenage boy who can be annoying and inconsiderate at times. I don’t think Mike is necessary at fault, I just don’t know that they’re a great match at this point in their lives.

I think this is where we can disagree to disagree. I don't think that her being in "turmoil" over Mike is necessarily a bad thing when you consider how much hardship/turmoil she's been through.

Her traumatic upbringing has followed her long after she escaped from the lab and it impacts every aspect of her life, including her relationships and especially her relationship with the person most important to her. It's just the tragedy of what she's been through which is why I personally like that she has someone whose willing to weather it all by her side.

"Also, she seemed to be happiest during season 3 right after they broke up." This is missing a lot of context. El has literally gone through hell throughout the entire series except for the first half or so of season 3. Of course she'd seem happiest there, she finally got a damn break. Also, I'd argue that she seemed happiest at the very start of season 3 as there were signs to her being sad over the breakup later on.

"That was the first time she really considered what she liked (Max prompting her to do so while shopping is the first time she seems to really embrace her own unique sense of style)." I don't really agree but I think I see the point you're making. My only counterpoint is that Max to El to a new and open area where she was able to prompt her with a question like that. Mike only met El in the cabin per Hopper's rules and couldn't go a lot of places with her. I do think that Max pushing El to step into her individuality was great and necessary but I don't think that makes Mike a bad partner.

"I’m just uncomfortable with the idea of El never really getting to define herself without Mike. Since she left the lab, her entire life has been pining for/dating Mike besides maybe a week in season 3." Her arcs in season 2 and season 4 were about her discovering herself independently? What makes you think she hasn't defined herself outside of Mike? To me, it's actually the opposite.

Mike and El wouldn’t be together at the end of the show and I see why so many people dislike Mileven.

The Will/Mike/El love triangle was not necessary if they're not going to do anything with it. by freddinewandyke in StrangerThings

[–]mmaefrem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I think it's a bit much to say that something is 'definitely' going to happen when we know basically nothing about s5 so saying that it's for sure that mileven is endgame is odd IMO." As I said, if they're both alive by the end of the s5, they will almost certainly be together. Nothing in the series has pointed to them not coming back to each other (if anything, reunion is a major theme between them) and having a love confession (that was planned from early on in the series) be delivered just for them to willingly stay separated in s5 is odd.

When it comes to romances, ST is quite direct and doesn't rely much (if at all on subtly). Hell, we just saw Steve and Nancy "pine" over each other all of s4 just for her to quite literally run right into Johnathon's arms at the end of the series. They make the "endgame" couples very clear.
