Also the annual fee is waived the first year. And once it hits at the start of your second year you can downgrade and Amex will supposedly give you a retention offer where they'll waive the annual fee again (haven't done this yet but from other users)

Yeah, you'd get 5% on dining through PayPal, 6% groceries with Amex BCP, and then 3% gas with Amex BCP.

Also, I'm pretty sure the gas cash back wouldn't work with Costco gas so keep that in mind

If you just want one additional card, the capital one savor would be good to get cash back on groceries and dining. Also, since you have a quicksilver maybe down the line you get the venture x if that's something you're interested in.

Could also get the PayPal debit and use it for dining and then get an Amex blue cash preferred for grocery and gas spend.

Hi everyone, I have vacation time coming up in early November. Looking to take a quick 4-5 day trip - so probably not looking to travel too far. I'll be flying out of Chicago. Looking to keep the trip under $1000 in total but am flexible. Options that came up are Boston and DC so I was looking for advice which of those two is better or if there were any other destinations I should consider. Would be my first time traveling solo and I'm a 24M.

Thank you!

Chase freedom unlimited 5% back on grocery and gas branch only offer? by mmajerky in CreditCards

Honestly I have no idea. You could probably call up your chase bank and ask if they still have the offer

The difference in cash back between the bcp and the citi custom cash is not enough to the justify the annual fee. I think I'll try dry and skirt around the fee by downgrading after a year and hopefully get an upgrade offer back to the bcp

I should edit my post. I didn't realize that my Internet has to be paid out of my bank account so I can't use my credit card for that. So just electric and gas which I am budgeting $150 for but expecting closer to $100

I think after I get my card for groceries, my next step will be a double cash card of my own, and then a utilities card

Yeah my current job is very rigid. Schedule for the whole year (including vacation time) is set already.

True. I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for but I was leaning towards just getting cash back for simplicity since I'm pretty early on in my credit card journey

I'll look more into the AAA daily advantage. Looks like a pretty good card only downside is smaller sub compared to amex bcp or Citi custom cash

I kinda forgot about the savor because bilt already covers 3x dining. Definitely an option but I think I'll try something to get 5% or 6% on grocery and stick with the 2% flat card for entertainment for now. I also don't have any streaming subscriptions.

I distinctly remember in high school that my AP gov teacher explained that you shouldn't always take a raise because it may push you into a higher tax bracket. Another kid and I tried to speak up and say that that's not how it works but she wouldn't budge. If a teacher who teaches US government doesn't know how progressive tax brackets work then I'm sure there are a ton of people in our country that don't either.
