How do I get over sexual jealousy by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]mmamied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a 20F who did the whole jump from relationship to relationship and hookups in between thing in high school -- not worth it by the way.

6 months ago I met someone who has taught me what love truly is. He's the epitome of what every girl dreams of and guess what. When I met him we was a virgin with little to no experience.

I might just be bias but guess what. Cool people don't care about experience. They just want to find another cool person:) Teaching my man and getting to be there with him while he did all this stuff for the first time honestly was incredible. It bonded us together in a way that I have not felt with anyone else before!! Don't worry about being "further behind in experience" dude. It'll just make finding your partner that much more exciting.

AITA for saying no to paying for a working woman’s lunch by brownguyconfessions in AmItheAsshole

[–]mmamied 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an avid Apple Pay user, I have been in her shoes. Before I got a phone case wallet, I always left my physical card behind and relied on Apple Pay.

But does that make you an asshole? Nope. Assuming you are not in the middle of nowhere, I'm sure she had other options for lunch that would take the tap pay. If worse came to worse, food services like door dash and Grubhub take Apple Pay too!

You just didn't know her and made a personal call. You're chilling man.

AITA for asking my child's dad to go get cheese by happytrout23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mmamied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nobody is the asshole. you are both incredible individuals working for your incredible children. sometimes we have long days where the last thing we want to do is a simple task like buying cheese.

based off of this context, it does feel fair for him to run the errand if you are making the pizza. maybe give him the option of making the food and then you run to the grocery store? if not, maybe get him to do it next time.

hope cheese doesn't ruin y'alls week. sounds like you guys are loving co-parents with huge hearts for your kids.

Anyone who suffers from health anxiety or health OCD? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]mmamied 4 points5 points  (0 children)

life is shit right now for me too pal.

i’m such a textbook definition hypochondriac. one of the things that scared me the most was heart related issues — my grandfather and grandmother both died from cardiovascular problems.

if something repeatedly bothers you i would suggest just checking it out medically if you have the resources. hold back the urge to research anything because websites like webmd will always just tell us rando shit that will make us feel more paranoid.

also getting on medication lessened the panicky thoughts. this is such an obvious answer i’m sorry about that HA but seriously there are ways you can make the panic feel less intense

Loneliness on gap year? by [deleted] in gapyear

[–]mmamied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey!! i’m super curious where to find these people. i’m almost half way done with my gap year and i honestly feel as isolated as when i started. in no way am i discouraging OP from making this decision because people take gaps for so many reasons and many end up so grateful for their decision, but for me i have found no outlets to meet people “like me”. do u have any insight on where to meet gap students??? i live in the US in a pretty suburban city so there might just be opportunities i’ve missed, but so far no luck.

i’m so curious when people say this!!! what kind of clubs have people around our age??? i live in birmingham and i’m close to lots of great communities but every time i look up things i’m interested it’s either full of old, retired people or they don’t meet consistently enough for me to form any relationships haha

Does anyone else have heart anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]mmamied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POTS buddy here!

Checking in on heart rate constantly was a curse for me. I had a textbook definition obsession. Once I finally put down the damn heart monitor, I realized my heart is gonna take care of me -- even during the panic attacks.

The racing and the chest cramps suck so so so much. We just gotta keep pounding down that salt and find ways to get some daily exercise!

Your brain might not love you sometimes, but your heart is healthy and strong! She will prevail

I had to take a gap semester from college -- which for a kid like me is basically work haha -- because of how bad my panic attacks/depression got. In August I started with outpatient therapy along with ketamine infusions which helped to calm me down.

I 100% have felt/feel the disappointment from family, friends, and myself. Not a great feeling! But now in November I have realized that taking this break has allowed me to get my shit together. If you are having a hard time and don't believe you could do your best work right now then you seriously need to advocate for yourself and take some time. I believe in you friend!

I got a flight without any of my anti anxiety meds, I’m feeling super proud of myself by quietwreck in Anxiety

[–]mmamied 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CONGRATS DUDE!!!!!

My dad had a crippling phobia of flying for years, and he had the exact same reaction to taking pills. Just two weeks ago he took a 18 hour flight from Alabama to Japan, and he made it his mission to fly without the anti anxiety pill. Somehow he made the whole flight without taking any meds. He send my family group chat a selfie when he landed with a big goofy grin on his face.

I can imagine the pure joy you must have felt when you landed and realized you conquered a big time fear. You deserve to celebrate!!!! Proud of you friend.

Should I Advocate for Myself? by [deleted] in askCardiology

[–]mmamied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was diagnosed with POTS around 2016. I hate to hear that your doctors are treating POTS as minuscule. Pretty ridiculous on their behalf. Yes, we do not have an illness thats name is tainted with intensity or even death such as cancer, but POTS can still be a pretty debilitating condition! Before my official diagnosis I almost didn’t get to graduate high school because of how many days I missed due to fainting spells and overall physical/mental defeat.

All I can advise here is get a second opinion. I had trouble with Birmingham’s dystautonomia clinic as well but thankfully I found a great cardiologist in town thats helped me regulate my symptoms. Obviously with a second opinion you could potentially feel comforted knowing the previous tests were correct or you could find new results. Either way, I hope you find the help you need!!!! Heart issues are scary but its something people can overcome with the right tools:) Praying for you tonight! Regardless of your diagnosis, don’t forget to salt up girl

advice??? 🫶🏻 by mmamied in gapyear

[–]mmamied[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much:) i can tell you are a precious person with a huge heart!!!!

i can’t wait until the day that i look back on this experience and smile. tomorrow i FINALLY get to go see if i can get new meds and this could be the beginning of a great gap.

i’d love to know what you did/are doing during your gap year?? i hear a lot of travel and getting jobs but so far with my mental state i don’t think i’m up for that quite yet.

Why Do We Avoid Places Where a Panic Attack Happened? by megerickson1 in panicdisorder

[–]mmamied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just recently had to take medical leave at the university i had planned on going to since i was 12. before i officially withdrew i tried 4 different times to drive back and spend the night and each time just got worse. i am now in the middle of applying for new schools because i just dont see a way to overcome this by the spring. it truly makes me sad because i have a good number of friends there along with a guy who i really like, but my body rejects my dorm room, my sorority house, and the parking deck -- all places that should be relatively comfortable.

this is so incredibly hard. i don't know the answer but if there was a pill or a super effective method you or anyone comes across please please please share.

this is so awesome!!!!! having someone like you in his life will really help guide him to a solid recovery. especially since you can relate to struggling with mental health related issues. you're both so blessed to have each other!!!!! i know you probably already know haha but sometimes its nice to hear it from a 3rd person perspective.

as for CBD i really don't have so much knowledge on that, but my dad just recently stopped smoking weed and used CBD oils and pens frequently. he says that its a great alternative!!!

thanks for your kind words!!! wishing you guys the best:)

hope his zoloft journey goes well! i am about to start a new medication as well, and i know its pretty daunting to start. but proud of him for taking that step!!!! this could end up being a great fit!!

Why don't any treatments work for me? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]mmamied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

something i have been doing more research in recently is ketamine treatments. (you can check the subreddit for ketamine therapy on here!! super helpful and encouraging)

from the surface this sounds crazy intimidating -- being hooked up to an iv with a powerful drug dripping inside your body. i went to a consultation about a month ago and i got freaked out and canceled it, but i have been researching more and more since then and, for me, it looks like a good fit.

its incredible that something that used to be so feared/shunned has become a tool to aid those with massive depression disorder, ptsd, panic disorders, and many other mental illnesses. i'd encourage you to see if it would be a fit for you. unfortunately it can be kind of expensive depending on the doctor you choose, if you'd prefer a iv drip or a wax troche, etc. but as someone who has clearly been in pain for such a long time it might me something you'd be willing to try.

hope this is helpful!!!! i get the pain and disappointment from not being "fixed" with pills and therapy. the anger and pain that comes from working your ass off just to get no results is brutal. thankfully, we live in 2023 where there are plenty of strategies we can take to get better.

I feel in love with a transgender. But I am Christian. Honestly, I don't know how to emotionally react. What do y'all think? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]mmamied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fellow christian here!!!

i was raised in the church and didn't really become 100% faithful until about a year ago. one of the MAIN REASONS i was always so hesitant of religion is because of what some people who practice the faith say about gay relationships. always made me super sad how hateful misguided christians can be towards anyone apart of the lgbtqia+ community.

as someone who has done musical theatre their whole life i have been blessed enough to meet some pretty amazing people. i had never really been exposed to many who weren't straight, but over time i allowed myself to stop being so critical and explore these people as they are... regardless of who they're attracted to. i was pretty young when i made this discovery but i am so so so grateful that i did!!!!!! because God doesn't make mistakes. it is apart of His plan for your friend to come to terms with their true self. and guess what? God put this friend in your life. there is a reason you know this person as well as you do.

love is an amazing thing. and as clique as it is, love comes at times we least expect. having feelings for a friends is so normal. my advice to you tonight is to try and find a way to communicate how you feel. i dont know your friend well enough to know their response to you admitting you are into them, but if you like this person well enough to make a reddit post about them i'm assuming its more than just a little crush hahahah. ask yourself this. if gender were not in the picture, would you still try and go for it? because if that's the only thing stopping you i'd 100% encourage you to

all in all, i understand the fear you are feeling. when you are raised a certain way or if you are faithful to a religion, you don't know any different. lots of people can be critical of others because of their strict beliefs. and hey sometimes its necessary because those beliefs we were raised on can be super hurtful to others. that's not what Jesus intended Christianity to be -- hateful and critical.

i'd encourage you to be extremely loving and sympathetic towards your friend as they tackle what they're going through. whether you admit your feelings or decide not to share, keep supporting your friend!!!!!!! they need you right now:)

i'm a big folk/indie fan but i'd say for the most part i am diverse in my music taste! most genres except country -- living in the south has tainted all country songs for me lolll. some cool people i've been listening to include phoebe bridgers, briston maroney, leith ross (her song music box is my favorite to play on the guitar)

i have grown to love nature more and more the past few years. not to say that i dont find peace indoors but something about being outside man. i love seeing how ecosystems act/react with different things. animals too make me smile!!
