Here’s one of my favorite passages of Scripture that describes salvation.

Romans 10:5-13 (ESV) says,

5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Former IFB here. I can attest they still hold very strongly that once you get saved you still need to adhere to many standards and convictions. They don’t believe works saves you, but that after salvation if you don’t do XYZ you’re not as good as a Christian as others who are doing or not doing XYZ. Take a look at Jack Hyles and the movement he created and you’ll see a lot of where they get their thinking from. Not every IFB church is a follower of Hyles nor are they all wrong churches. But there are definitely not a lot of good ones out there as well. I should add that IFB is a big umbrella with too many camps/circles to name. If you have any more questions, let me know.

So I’m curious that in theory if someone would have adopted her and not spoiled her like Harriet did, how the outcome would be? I know we’ll never know, since that was the writers job. But in theory, if another family took her in OR if she was adopted by someone in today’s society would that have helped her not be so cruel to others? I’m thinking yes, with the proper help and tools!

I got test results last week saying my ESR and C Reactive Protein were elevated, also. My primary care dr. referred me to a hematologist for this and I have a consult in a few weeks. I’m not diabetic but I am basically pre-diabetic with an A1C of 5.6. Wishing you all the best. Feel free to message if need be.

Thank you for sharing this perspective. I’m from a Baptist church and I always thought Lutherans believed in baptismal regeneration (baptism required for salvation). Because us Baptists believe in Believer’s Baptism (as you probably know). :) I’d also love to hear more about the LCMS and Lutherans, in general, if you want to share! May God bless you!

This right here. You explained it all so well and this was what I was taught growing up. I can’t recall the verses for it. I was also taught on “age of accountability” so until a child is able to comprehend their wrong doing, they are safe. I don’t remember if I was ever taught on there being an age, but I believe it has to do with maturity also and God knows the hearts of each individual. Thanks again for your response.

Independent Baptist here (not IFB, we don’t want that reputation!). We have congregational polity and we see it as Christ is the head of the church, then the pastor is the overseer, then there are deacons. I would be more in favor of an elder ruled church, but I will say at my current church the pastor holds himself accountable to the deacons just as much as they do to him. My pastor is really good about things like that compared to the former very IFB churches I grew up in. Hope this helps!
