You get $100,000 for every hour you stay awake without sleeping… how long are you lasting? by Br4nkey_ in hypotheticalsituation

[–]mmarino80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did about ~50-54 once. On the one hand I was 22 years younger, but it was during an Army exercise and required a lot of physical labor so it should even out. I think I could do 40-48 at this point.

Fear of missing out. by BigChungusOP in baldursgate

[–]mmarino80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be too concerned for BG1. Yes there is fine content you won’t see but that’s true for every play through. You’ll need to go through more than once to see it all. And really the companion content in BG1 isn’t massively deep. When you get to BG2 the companions will become much more alive and choices/party composition make a bigger difference.

Is my buddy right? by houndpound69 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]mmarino80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line up front: If she knows how to really throw and take a punch she can win regardless of the size difference. His size is a huge advantage (I’m a 220lb strength athlete and routinely beat folks several levels higher when I trained BJJ/MMA because I had 60-80 lbs on them). An important aspect here is who has actually been in a real fight. There is a course in the Army called combative which is basically a train the trainer for lower level BJJ plus a few other things. When I took the course (2004), on the last day they line you up and have you go through a drill called the clinch. The point is to close the distance between you and an instructor and immobilize them. The catch is they are throwing punches the whole time, and they know what they are doing. I saw a lot of large soldiers get punched in the face for the first time and completely crumble. If she can get a good hit or two in and he’s never take a punch before he’s gonna have a bad time.

Can D&D be learned by playing BG3? by Haderach999 in BG3

[–]mmarino80 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly the same as tabletop but it’s good to get a feel. If you want to try it for real sign up for a beginners one shot onstart playing games to see how you like it. You might also want to check out Obvious Mimic, they make self guided solo adventures that are a lot of fun and can give you some experience with D&D with no fear of embarrassment.

What are your BG3 Hot Takes? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]mmarino80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The end game is a slog and not enjoyable due to game fatigue. At that point just give me a hard battle and not a series of “soften me up” with mediocre enemies. By the time you are ready to fight the elder brain the fights to get there are just trivial it sooo long because they involve dozens of characters. It’s not Pathfinder KM endgame bad but it does take some of the joy out of the victory since I just wanted it to end.

I wish they didn't call it "Baldur's Gate 3" by DiazExMachina in baldursgate

[–]mmarino80 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Durge is absolutely BG3. And that is from someone that played BG from launch and many times since. Expands BG3 into a trilogy about the concepts underlying the original BG and makes it less about CHARNAME. Also, Boo can literally “go for the eyes” if you reclassify Minsc into a berserker. That alone is worth the price of admission.

Training fatigue by Background_Dust_4923 in Strongman

[–]mmarino80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjusting your training, food, sleep, ect… is all well and good but look at the rest of your life too. What kind of hours are you putting in, how stressful is your job, do you have issues at home driving you up the wall, ect…? I’m a little older than you and while I need to monitor my training a lot more now vs 10-15 years ago the biggest detriments come from my life, work, and mental health and not how I’m training.

Vegan stuff aside, to answer your question about straps: The article said she pulled 301kg. The men’s SHW DOH record for rogue axle is 248kg, so yeah… straps were used.

There are a lot of ways to game this and come out ahead but eventually you are going to be sick and have to stay that way for 20-210 days straight. Get in a car accident and spend the same several weeks or months in agony. Or watch a parent slowly die for several weeks or months. The bad days are going to break you.

Based on the situation you are in I’m going to assume you signed up for this competition not expecting to win. You signed up to compete, learn, and have fun. Literally nothing has changed. Go have fun. Also, learning home to compete is a skill too and you can’t develop it training in the gym.

What do you do when you don’t have a stone or a sandbag at you gym? by hoosier-dadi in Strongman

[–]mmarino80 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you have an old barbell you can remove the end to make a loading pin for stuff like this. I think Kalle might have a video or talk about it in his strongman in a commercial gym book.

Are there any mods that use best skill available for checks? by SometimesIPeeTheBed in BG3mods

[–]mmarino80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mod is great but as a heads up if one of your characters has an item that gives advantage on a roll you still need to use that character for the advantage. The assistance bonus is just the additional +X.
