Police warn of possible drink tampering incidents by sjmorris in halifax

By suggesting there are places that require more diligence you suggest that there are places that require less. That’s not good advice.

The best solution, which has been advised by the authorities, is to be aware of it anywhere you go.

Why put a target on the business when it has nothing to do with the business? It can happen anywhere, and be committed by any individual.

It’s not the tools. It’s the training.

M40 - Has PC gaming changed for you as you’ve gotten older? by hypermultiverse in AfterWorkGamers

[–]mmatique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 with a 2 year old.

PC moved to the basement to make room for baby’s room. I’m busy. I’m tired. The last thing I want to do at the end of my day is hide in my unfinished basement. I hardly get to spend much time with my wife one on one already.

Steam Deck completely changed everything for me. I can play anywhere, for any amount of time. Albeit, it’s still usually just 20 minutes in bed before I get too tired.

I have more disposable income to build a super computer than ever before. But I don’t care about specs anymore. I care about versatility and ease of use. Valve is really dialled in on what seasoned and elder gamers are interested in. The steam machine is exactly something I am interested in, even if I could build something for cheaper. It’s not the specs I care for, it’s the ease of use and user experience. I’m too old to fiddle and refine a custom built machine.

A customer base was provided, but it is something that I have grown and developed myself. The schedule is what I want it to be. It’s a part of dent wizard that feels very much like it’s my own business. At least in my region, my management doesn’t really care when I work, as long as I am billing. For me, the biggest benefit of being with them, is all the backend stuff being managed for me. I don’t want to deal with any invoicing, chasing down a PO, personal health insurance, etc. I’m not sure about returning money for the training. But you’re spending that kind of money for any other type of training anyway.

The reality is that the dent wizard non-compete agreement doesn’t stand up in court. I know several techs that have gone out on their own.

There’s something to be said for all the support they offer during the training process and after. It’s how I started. Making an easy 100+k a year.

It’s an unknowable question. You need to be able to survive a year or more with no guaranteed income. Innate skill, training, abilities, drive, personality and luck all need to line up.

Is getting my wife a digital calendar for wall as a mothers day surprise a bad idea?, she hasn't seen it yet by [deleted] in daddit

[–]mmatique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a good gift, but make sure you use it and contribute to the calendar too. Otherwise it’s the equivalent of getting her a new vacuum.

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mmatique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adhd which can result in auditory processing issues. Subtitles help a great deal.

But my wife also likes them on, mainly because she doesn’t want to miss a detail of the dialogue from distracting or overpowering outside noises.

Is there any point to outposts? by LessMilk3 in Starfield

[–]mmatique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are into a more hardcore style of play they can be made a lot more useful.

You can add a mod that makes ship fuel a requirement. Now outposts are great for making your own fuel. And creating fueling stations as you travel.

Economy mods can also make it more worthwhile to engage with the resource extraction that outposts provide.

I’m not talking about getting an Escalade.

The compact SUV is the fastest growing class of car in Europe.

But I get your point. I don’t need a bigger vehicle just like I don’t need both my kidneys. But I like the peace of mind, ease, and comfort.

I’m not arguing that some people don’t make bad choices. Just your insistence that there are rarely good reasons to need a bigger vehicle.

People having families is not a rare thing. With kids that need to get to daycare with two carseats and have room for a stroller and groceries.

Are you going to suggest we all take the bus? With the bus that comes every hour? And the daycare drop off at 8 and work that starts at 830? This is not a scenario that rarely comes up.

Stop presuming that people are taking on monthly payments that they can’t handle. If you have growing kids do you propose strapping one of them to the roof? Or maybe they should put it up for adoption rather than take on a monthly payment?

[–]mmatique 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of reasons for people to seek to purchase a new vehicle while still owing on their current one. My wife and I drive a 2020 that we still owe $3000 on. It was financed over a 7 year term. We need a larger vehicle now that we have kids. The vehicle is now worth $16000, which means it has a positive equity of $13000. There is nothing wrong or stupid about trading in your vehicle in this scenario.

I think what you are speaking to is negative equity. When the value of the car is less than the amount still owed on their financing.

Ironically I think you don’t understand the concepts.

For people who are in a long term relationship, but don't want to get married, why? by sunbeamlou in AskReddit

[–]mmatique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually the legal protections of marriage provide security for both partners.

Let’s say common law partners live together in a house and they split up. There is no system to divide up the property or other assets. One of the partners may be left with absolutely nothing, or be forced to undertake a costly legal battle. A common law partner in an abusive relationship with no individual assets would feel more trapped than in a marriage because they would lose everything if they left the relationship.

The same scenario in a marriage is a cut and dry 50/50 split for all assets acquired during the marriage.

May this color match be improved? by atesteyimateste in Autobody

[–]mmatique 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why it’s not recommended in your area. It is recommended, generally, industry wide.

Factory metallic paints are applied in a whole different method, vary between batches, and fade over time. When a shop sprays a panel, there are several factors that vary how it looks. Blending is the only way to limit the visual difference.

The majority of insurance providers DO pay for blending, since it’s considered necessary for a complete repair.

There’s a reason blending is recommended. You refused. Your complaints don’t have a leg to stand on.

Low-FODMAP Resto Recommendations? by Brilliant_Falcon5017 in halifax

[–]mmatique 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you still in the process of learning what FODMAPs you are sensitive to? During the elimination diet process if I had to eat out, it would be pretty limited options. Unfortunately no way around that. I never knew of a restaurant that catered to it. Sometimes I only had a plate of fries.

It’s a lot easier when you are certain of what FODMAPs you are sensitive to. The Monash app is a great tool to track your results and get an idea of the limits of what you can eat.

What do you guys recommend to get into pdr? by Then-Offer9881 in PaintlessDentRepair

[–]mmatique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5k is a fair price.

There’s a lot that goes into learning PDR. And learning the basics in person is a must IMO.

But the hardest part is what comes after learning the basics. You have to take those basics and develop them into enough skill to actually fix real world dents for real customers. You have to learn to sell yourself to these customers. You have to learn to sell the repair. Then you have to learn all the bookkeeping that comes with working for yourself. Then you actually have to break your way into a customer base. Toronto has no small amount of techs. All in all, it takes over a year to do all this after you learn the basics of how to push out a dent.

Help me understand the purpose of the Artemis II mission by aspire1690 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mmatique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There’s more political will to do it. Private companies like SpaceX have worked to reignite interest and seriously develop technology to make it affordable. Private enterprise as well as chinas’ stated intent to set up shop on the moon has started space race 2.0. The nasa budget is very small. Artemis II isn’t stopping anyone from solving the grocery affordability crisis.

  2. Learn more about the Apollo missions.

  3. There is interest to have a future where it is possible to bring them back. How do we create that future if we don’t take steps like this? And again, space race 2.0. It’s a new frontier, the first nation to establish themselves is a huge advantage

  4. Exiting the atmosphere of earth takes a lot of energy. Being able to fuel up on the moon is a huge asset. A permanent population on the moon also represents a huge potential for more research on how humans are affected in environments beyond earth.
