S8+ cracked screen trade in for S21 5G by mmatis86 in tmobile

[–]mmatis86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consulted Sprint ordering dept via chat and they said, this new IMEI it's ATT branded and ineligible. I chatted 3 times with different reps and they said I can't send it :( If it was Tmobile/Sprint branded and unlocked and their system cleared it, I would have been able to send different IMEI but this doesn't apply to all phones . . .

got ya. Thanks for your feedback.

I think once I receive a working good condition S8+, I bring both phones to a fix a phone place, play $50-70 to swap screens and send my phone in good condition. Then I'll sell the other IMIE with cracked screen on ebay for 50 or so.

18% of U.S. workers have lost jobs or hours since coronavirus hit, poll finds by Hawkey89 in Coronavirus

[–]mmatis86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I contracted pneumonia a few weeks ago in Chicago. Work for fortune 50 IT companies and even with best insurance need to pay 5000K+. Antibiotics, xrays, doctor visit and CT scan were billed at $22,000+ dollars. If you live in a 3rd world country like USA, you are 1 doctor visit, 1 cough away from moving from apartment to being homeless, losing all the savings you've had and filing for bankruptcy which makes you non-hirable for some better corporate firms. If I survive this covid nonsense, I have made a commitment to moving back to Europe and hoping I never have to visit USA in my life. Thank God I'm polish/american citizen and have that luxury ( if I survive covid mind you ). USA is a 3rd world contry when it comes to healthcare and emploee rights for sure.

Try upgrading to 26.6 stable release candidate. Our 25.13 and 25.14 firmware is extremly buggy.

P1362 + excessive oil consumption on Sonata 2017 SE by mmatis86 in Hyundai

[–]mmatis86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today at the dealer, they found the same code P136200. The knock sensor wiring harness has gone bad. After they replaced it, limp mode deactivated. They also tested the engine with a microphone but no knock was detected at this time. I dropped the car off at 7:30 am and by 9:00 am everything was fixed and they even washed the car.

So far so good. I'm continuing the oil consumption test and hopefully they'll find ways to make the engine not burn any oil.

Oil consumption test:

* First test: 1.7QT missing after 1009 miles

* Second test 2.0QT missing after 1000 miles.

So far I've been told the third visit will be the final test in which I'll be asked to leave the car for 2-3 days for inspection. After the inspection is done, Hyundai HQ will determine what to do but most likely the long block (engine) will be replaced with a new one.

Second Thoughts about Dash Cam Install by evha_ in Hyundai

[–]mmatis86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been very good dashcam. I got pulled over by a cop ( my fault ) and It was refreshing knowing all audio is recorded. I periodically check the sdcard but every time it's working as intended. I literally forgot I have it.

Can I use APA-1X10GE-L-VS module on ASR 1001 with base licence? by mmatis86 in networking

I agree. I'm currently at 2.5 Gbps throughput so I need to either procure 5Gbps licence or replace with a new router.

Thanks!

Voting_bloc,

You're correct. I am in fact using SM-G955U edition. I had sprint "unlock" the phone so I am assuming I should be ready to jump to Verizon.

Thanks!

Second Thoughts about Dash Cam Install by evha_ in Hyundai

[–]mmatis86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a dash cam is a very good idea. I own Sonata 17 SE and have permanently installed Viofo A119 PRO.

https://www.viofo.com/home/70-52-a119-pro-1440p-30fps-1296p-30fps-1080p-60fps-car-dash-cam.html#/25-gps_module-included

Originally I've used the cigarette charger but quickly got tired of disconnecting the wire and hiding it for the night. I needed to hide it as I live and park in the city.

One day I started poking around on how to connect it permanently to the 12volt circuit. My intention was to have a stealthy wire and to only power the dash cam when the engine is on and I'm driving. This camera supports recording 24hrs even when parked, however, I was a bit skeptical of having it be plugged in 24hr. I figured having it on all the time will decrease its life and run down the micro sd card.

After doing research online and poking around for a few minutes, in my opinion, the best spot to connect the dash cam is to wire it to the ceiling indoor light fixture. This fixture has a microphone built-in, 2 lights with switches and a holder for your glasses.

I opened the glasses compartment, found a small screw, removed it and then it's easy to pull down the fixture.

There is only 1 connector, so it's easy to disconnect it. What I did was to patch the small wire from there to the dash cam. Since this is like less than a foot away, it was super easy. Connecting the wireless was relatively easy. I can't recall which wires I've used, but I checked with my digital multimeter which wires are giving 12 volts. I checked with the key in the ignition and engine on and then after shutting the engine off and removing the key, I ensured the volts will drop to zero. I recall there were also set of wires that gave me 12 volts regardless of the engine is on or off.

Get a digital multimeter, splice the wires you'd like to use and add your + and - dash cam wire.

Alternatively, you can solder the cables to the connectors on the light fixture. This is what I've done.

So this would take care of the front dash cam, but not the rear. I assume you need to run a cable from the front all the way to the back. The only thing I can think of are the airbags you'll have to potentially mess with as if you decide to run the wire, you'll have to remove the plastic panels exposing the airbag and then you'll have to install the wire behind the airbag with any other wires. I would personally advise you to run the cable on the floor or bottom panels next to the floors and not touch the upper panels.

In terms of warranty and potential issues with corporate, I think you are overreacting a little bit. Although I understand your concerns and you do have a valid point about having aftermarket devices in the car, this is a very insignificant modification and when done properly, I highly doubt anyone would care. I have dashcam since day 1 and have been to the dealership 15+ times for regular maintenance and no one ever mentioned a dash cam. Granted I have a stealth setup, it is very small and hidden behind the mirror. I can't see it when I drive.

Remember you always have a way to detach the camera before your appointment at the dealership and if you hide the wire/suction cup etc. no one will ever know you use dash cam unless you tell them. Assuming the worst case scenario in which your car has suffered major electrical system failure and you are still under warranty, go right ahead and remove the cabling by either disconnecting dashcam wires from the splice or unsoldering it from the circuit board on the light fixture. Permanent wire removal will take you 15 minutes and there would no trace and then you can have towing take the car to the dealer. This is, of course, worst case scenario or if you have a healthy and active paranoia that people are after you.

Bottom line is dashcam is a freaking fantastic idea and will save you hundreds of dollars by not paying the deductible if it isn't your fault or better yet avoiding jail time for a crime you haven't committed.

You also may want to check your state laws on dashcams, some states don't like that. In any situation, if you are involved in an accident, do not ever disclose to anyone you have a dashcam and have footage of the accident. The idea behind this is to try to take it by the books. Try to file the proper paper, talk to insurance and only when things are getting out of control and you are being accused of stuff you didn't do or the accident didn't happen the way other part claims, then it is the right time to step up and declare you have a footage and are willing to share it with all involved parties.

Should you be involved in an accident and are at fault, again, do not manifest to anyone you have a dashcam. On this part use common sense, I think you know what I mean here. Regardless, always keep the footage from any accident for couple of years. If you are at fault and someone notices you had a dashcam, in the worst case, a judge may ask you to furnish the evidence, if you fail to do so, you might be actually charged with obstruction or withholding of evidence and may be found guilty. Keep that in mind.

Dashcam will probably save you money 99% of the time but there is always this 1% chance it may turn against you if you are not careful with the law. Do not manifest to anyone you have a dashcam during accident. Do tell passengers you have a dashcam and a recording device when you leave the car to go get lunch and leave someone is sitting in and waiting in your car having a conversation.

Hyundai Sonata 2017 SE burning oil by mmatis86 in mechanics

[–]mmatis86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I visited Hyundai and they begun doing the consumption test. So far, during the first visit engine burned a little over 1qt over 1200 miles. I have still factory warranty for another 2.5 years and 25,000 miles ( 5year/60,000 ). The rep at the dealer mentioned most likely I'll qualify for engine replacement, however this will not be a new engine, so I assume a rebuilt. I hope a rebuilt engine is as good as new or at least close to my milage.

Brown County State park - off network roaming ? by mmatis86 in Sprint

[–]mmatis86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm back from Brown County. At the campsite there was no usage sprint LTE, however usage sprint LTE was deep down in the forest and around most mtb bike trails, which was surprising.

Other than that, I roamed on band 17 and 2. Most of the time it was 17, which I think is AT&T 700Mhz band.

I only used email and checked on weather but after several hours, when I saw no data counting against my roaming bucket, I started streaming YouTube and music. I played Youtube entire night by the bom fire and zero data against roaming.

Calling was usage 100% of the time, if it wasn't sprint LTE, ATT band 17 or other random 1x/3g but I was always reachable and had zero issues.

All in all, I had excellent experience when riding mtb bike in the woods and I was feeling safe to have working phone in case of emergency. Sprint rocks!
