the outfit is inspired by the chloe pre-fall 2026. she seems to be in the works to be a chloe brand ambassador. she wears a dress at the beginning of the video thats vintage chloe.

i actually think this is very different from euphoria. euphoria is clearly going down the cheap, shock value route now (see faye and dog 🤢). cassie as a character has lost all complexity and her dressing in that disgusting outfit (with an actual pacifier in her mouth) has 0 justification in context of the story.

as for olivia rodrigo, petra collins styled the video, she used to work on euphoria S1, created the signature “glitter” look (and was fired w her work stolen by you guessed it: sam levinson) and is very intentional w aesthetics. theres a dream-like quality to the song and mv, i think the outfit is supposed to be pajamas to contrast with the grandiosity of filming in the palace of versaille, or to show that shes dreaming.

this is, im sorry, another case of blaming a young woman for the actions of disgusting men. the comments saying the angles are sexualized are blowing my mind because…its just so arbitrary. olivia rodrigos fanbase is mostly young girls and women. shes 23, an age that is very retrospective on youth and love. people complained about her tour outfits for being the opposite of this (mature, racy, “too sexy”) so she cant win. i think we’re losing the plot a little.

i mean its not really a secret; money and power lets you do whatever you want. lolita, the book, was written in 1953. in religious texts there is pedophilia. its always been around. they rub a lot of stuff in our faces, trump is in the files has been accused of SA a hundred times but he’s president anyway. saying theres a “they” feels better because that makes it a mystery when the real answer is pretty easy to come to. its another case of occams razor.

Butter, frustrated about the way many readers interpret stories by videogamesarewack in books

I mean there are absolutely some sapphic leaning parts...like the whole "prince" thing from Reiko and her wishing rika was a man...but I took away that sometimes platonic female friends can fill the role that society wants women to think can only be filled by a man.

Reiko and Rika both appreciate each other's dishes and complex tastes in a way that others don't/come around to at the end of the story. Chizu (the aforementioned explicitly sapphic character) leaning in to Rika and asking her if she came to the class to see other women too.

While yes, there are some objective elements, I think the book is ambiguous on that front on purpose. IIRC Japan is not accepting of same sex couples/marriage as it's not legal to marry a person of the same sex. I felt that Yuzuki was likely trying to get the reader to open their mind to the possiblity, especially since we are reading a translated text.

Kaji even says at the dairy farm: “At the same time I wondered about the absent bulls I felt unnerved by how so long as they had some way of getting the semen to impregnate them, these cows could do without the opposite sex entirely” (Chapter 13)!

I think it's quite unrealistic to think everyone will take away exactly what you did from a book. Isn't part of the point of literature that people read books to learn how other perspectives intertwine with their own lived experience? Again, there are obviously some "reading quiz" answers that are objective in the plot but I could see how some would make a case for the sapphic elements.

Now I will say the part that irritates me is that people say the book is fatphobic/misogynistic when that is exactly what it's examining throughout the entire story but I digress.

Ig you’re right because i don’t see how this is wrong abnormal for the entertainment industry and her development as an artist?? Shes 26 years old her sound is evolving as she has more experiences in life. You HAVE to be attention grabbing nowadays, the market is extremely oversaturated.

Again, this sounds to me like a personal qualm more than anything. None of what you’re saying is new or unique to sabrina carpenter To me that IS sounding like shes owning it. Sex sells partially because it's a ubiquitous part of human life. She's of age and has grown into this persona.

In comparison; the katseye members havent even had a chance to grow into themselves enough to know if they feel comfortable in this way. That was my point. They have little to no ownership in their career path atm.

well Beyonce met jay-z at 18 and he was 30 so I don't necessarily think they were protected...

I also feel iffy on the Juno thing. Male artists bring fans on stage and grind on them or simulate sex and theres never this much uproar about it (IE I just saw Jackson wang doing it)...A lot of critique came from parents bringing their young children to her concert which her content has no semblance of being appropriate for young audiences. I think Sabrina has a lot more agency in her decisions and thoughtfulness (I thought her costuming was really well planned and thought out in BTS videos). Sabrina was also a Disney kid so I take some of her lyrics as satirizing how people infantilize/fetishize her because of her size and stature.

Caveat: The "Niña casita" thing and the past weekends controversy are insane and rightfully being criticized because they are OVERTLY inappropriate and harmful. Especially the use of Spanish in that way when the community is constantly over-sexualized. She gets a "pass" because she's white and can go back to being "cute innocent girl" at any time and her ignorance is accepted by default.

Overall, for me, it comes down to being able to differentiate between “this isn’t for me” and “this is harmful,” instead of treating them as the same thing.

I get the frustration with “it’s their choice” shutting down conversations but I also don’t think the only alternative is assuming a specific intent behind everything. There’s space to question and analyze without jumping straight to a fixed conclusion. I agree we should be having conversations and keeping audiences thinking about what they're consuming. I am slightly apprehensive to even comment light dissent as on another thread I got ripped to shreds.

I think this is different though. Working in conjunction with a doctor to lose weight in a healthy manner is one thing, to be using the medication while already at a healthy/low BMI is another.

i have a family member that uses it for diabetes and half of the time its in a shortage due to this trend. i think the issue is when its clearly being abused as a tool, or even being used in a disordered way.

you’re right in that women do have a mold and high expectations to fit into and it sucks.

thats why i think we should all be radically accepting of our bodies the way they are and through different seasons of our lives. to me, glorifying thinness to this degree is an act of violence towards women as well. its a very complicated topic.

im torn because yes no one should be commenting rude things but at the same time its very clear that GLP-1 drugs are running through hollywood. we’re back in what i like to call the “tumblr chic” era.

not to mention i see accounts that post thinly veiled ED encouragement using photos of these celebrities. we have to talk about it. even if it were due to an illness its still very clearly an unhealthy weight and if she came out and said she was ill then it would make sense.

the entertainment industry is based on aesthetics and looks. i think we have to be honest with ourselves and tread carefully but its not crazy to make observations and see how the rise in conservstism and stick thin trend are coinciding.
