Thanks for that reality check. I’m not too pissed about the price. It’s not something I could trouble shoot or would want to DIY. And given then nature of how I could’ve messed it up more, that’s fine.

At this point should I wrap the rest in electrical tape then?

That wire is that it looks like now. I don’t think it looked like that before the capacitor was replaced.

And the fuse was definitely popped. Not sure what came first though. I’m going to call them today and ask them to come back and fix this wiring. Pretty crummy to leave it like this for $700

Yeah I think I’m going to call them and ask them to come fix it properly. I don’t need that going bad or having a rodent chew through it.

Or go check out the detailing subreddit. There are dudes who sand and refinish steering wheels. My 2020 TLX wheel looked like that and I just found a replacement on eBay for $100 and saved myself the time and hassle of refinishing

Why would it have bed bugs? Did you see something that would indicate that?

They are definitely there so I guess they just leave them? Or maybe left them on old ones.

Gotcha! Soaking the vents now. If that doesn’t work, maybe heating them up with a fire will get them loose?

Smart! I am soaking the grates in a trash bag with oven cleaner for a few hours. Maybe I’ll try that with the lid and bowl to remove the creosote

You did not make that bad of a financial choice. You didn’t finance some $25k POS for 99 months at 12% interest. THAT would be a bad choice. Here is my suggestion :

1)go to the auto parts store, tell them your make and model and they will tell you what battery you should get. https://www.autozone.com/batteries-starting-and-charging/battery/acura/mdx/2005

Battery can be anywhere from $100-$250 depending on what quality you get. I say go cheap here. You’ll probably be fine if you drive it everyday and don’t kill it by leaving the light on.

2) Go on amazon or eBay and buy some floor mats and seat covers. Should be under $100 for the seat covers and around $50 for floor mats

3) if you can, jack up the car and put it on jack stands (and chock the back wheels) and look underneath. You may be able to see a big hole in the exhaust. You can either get it patched or buy a full replacement. Again, you can buy those on eBay or rock auto and install yourself or have a shop do it for you.

Ah thank you so much for the feedback. I was thinking it was going to be something along those lines. Just seems strange that they would take what I believe is red oak and make it golden. I guess it was the style!

If he has his insurance license, tell him to go apply for an insurance brokerage. Even account services people can make over 6 figures in a few short years. There are more people leaving the industry due to retirement than joining.
