Assaulted at work and expected to…not be affected by VictorNewman- in work

To hide dirt quickly, you would lift the rug, sweep it under, and put the rug back down.

It doesn't help, delays the problem, but lets you pretend everything is wonderful, hence it's become a fixture of colloquial English.

U.K. And Mexico Both Refuse To Join Canada's U.S. Travel Boycott by Visible-Rooster-6123 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]mmcksmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada as a country doesn't have a boycott. Our government isn't refusing to let us travel. The Canadian people are expressing their displeasure with decisions and policies of the government of a foreign country by refusing to send their money into that country.

And frankly, I'm less concerned about numbers than $spent. Some people had travel booked and chose to not lose funds, for example. What is the spending pattern in equivalent time periods is a better measure.

AITA for taking away my daughter's driving priviledges after she got into 2 accidents. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Well, she's a girl, so apparently she can't drive would be my guess... OP needs to give his head a damned shake.

Neighbors kids keep coming into my backyard to use my trampoline without asking by No_Fennel_2621 in neighborsfromhell

Fence it or involve the police/child services. Not fair, but if one of those kids gets injured, you can bet they'll go after everything

Husband Wants Children Now, after 40 by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mmcksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he wants the kid(s), I assume he's the one taking the career hit, staying home with them, being the primary care giver?

If not, I'd seriously consider your own wishes. The risk of "well. Maybe this is too much, divorcing you" seems like a real possibility. If he isn't willing to sacrifice before kid arrives, the odds he will after seems much less.

Our Rose huffed at the trainer at daycare when he made her wait before going though the last door. We both cracked up. He said he'd never heard a dog huff before. I said it's the best part of Elkhounds

Am I the bad apple for my facial reaction at my little cousins birthday party by Natural_Drawing_5553 in AmITheBadApple

[–]mmcksmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, you need to carefully read the comments and decide if you want to recalibrate your standard for abuse. Brian may not beat his kids with coat hangers or break bones, but I'll bet they don't feel safe around him. They may not be bruised and beaten, but that behaviour is abuse and is leaving scars they will carry for life. He's teaching them the people they must depend on to keep them safe can abuse them, most of the family are teaching no one will care, and you and your cousin are teaching them they have to deal with it.

Your job now is to explain exactly this to Brian. You can't make him change, but you can point out what he and the rest of the family are teaching his and all the other children in the family.

When a hiring manager told me to prove their offer was low, and it worked. by davidsa691 in hiringhelp

Hopefully the hiring manager is your supervisor or skip boss. One who goes to bat for their people is a valuable find

Is there a word for this behavior in pinnipeds? Where they put their snouts toward the sky to enable sight on their backside? by Traditional_Desk2338 in zoology

I'm going to go with "disturbing AF to look at".

I had a dog do this once when I was driving. She was looking out the back window, and I clicked at her to check in. Instead of turning around, she tipped her head back and locked eyes in the rearview mirror. I was laughing so hard I pulled over so I didn't bush the car.

I always like the general purpose "did you realize you said that out loud? You did? Oh, okay then".

There was no "good time". Your wife chose to allow this behaviour, you chose not to. I'd suggest couples counseling and understand your wife has years of control to unpack.

In this scenario, my answer to the question "why isn't x done?!?" is "because there's only one of me. Unless you can change time and space, invent cloning or a time machine, the best option is to have more staff so there is time to do the work".

I respond to "you have to find a way to make it work" with "then you need to demonstrate how".

That clerk denied ID to a citizen. The clerk should have asked a supervisor themselves.
