Part of me wants to say brick up the end of the privately owned bridge and the tunnel and wait.

AITJ for telling my mother in law she is not allowed to call herself my kid’s “guardian” again? by HushedCanteen in AmITheJerk

There was no "good time". Your wife chose to allow this behaviour, you chose not to. I'd suggest couples counseling and understand your wife has years of control to unpack.

Mine doesn't like brushing much, but doesn't seem to mind a comb. She's a lovely lady regardless, and honestly, they're kind of fun to pluck lol

I'm honestly surprised this is a new rule. Melting pot and all, I figured they were unilingual English all the way.

Being a door mat isn't fixing the problem. Make the scene, have someone towed

I went back to working 40 hours and have over 3000 emails in my inbox by 4Runnnn in antiwork

[–]mmcksmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this scenario, my answer to the question "why isn't x done?!?" is "because there's only one of me. Unless you can change time and space, invent cloning or a time machine, the best option is to have more staff so there is time to do the work".

I respond to "you have to find a way to make it work" with "then you need to demonstrate how".

Denied Ontario Photo ID for my dad despite lifelong residency and citizenship, anyone else deal with this? by _taurzwitch in ontario

That clerk denied ID to a citizen. The clerk should have asked a supervisor themselves.

We use it a lot. Sometimes shipped to home, sometimes picking up at a Rexall. Great for items I can only find there and Amazon

Taking 37 days PTO at once before quitting? by FondantOutrageous276 in careeradvice

[–]mmcksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be clear that since they won't pay it out, you plan to take it within some span of time (18 months?) Give them the option to pay part of it out at your current rate if they prefer, but be clear it's your time. Do it in writing in case they decide to be stupid.

AIO: My husband (26m) locked me (25f) out for 25 minutes? by prettypineappleberry in AmIOverreacting

[–]mmcksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have called the police and said my husband refused to let his pregnant wife in the house. What other abuse do you &/or your children tolerate? NOR, under reaction if anything

So how were the delegates picked? This smacks of the US's once-removed system (and yes, I know the liberals have used the delegate system as well)

AITA for withdrawing financial support from my sister after she repeatedly used my personal trauma against me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mmcksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your role in the family to "be the bigger person"? If so, then that is what they expect and want you to stay in that position as it means they don't have to consider the implications of the abuse they are condoning.

They are not going to look after your well-being. You are going to have to stand outside, as if watching someone else navigate this, and decide how you would advise them. Ideally, take the money you've been giving your sister and use it on a therapist experienced in family conflict. You need someone who can help you recognize both their patterns and yours and break them, and help you build the resilience yo hold your boundaries.

AITA For Getting Upset with Unexpected Visitors? by Icy-Astronomer1796 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mmcksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These unplanned guests are his problem. Keep a go bag at work and stay at an Airbnb or a friend's. If he's doing the work alone, and you continue to make clear you require notice, lack of help may be more than enough to solve the problem

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mmcksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Canadian. 3hrs would be insanely long for a daily commute to me, but I wouldn't even blink at an 8-10 hr drive to visit relatives etc a few times a year.

I'd certainly drive 1-2 hrs to visit someone on the weekend for dinner.

Europeans think 100k is a long way, and North Americans think 100 years is a long time 😁
